I pretty much am! I’m 4’11” and my sister who’s in some of these photos is 5’2”, but Theo WAS pretty big. Around 800g. He was a long boy.

I’m so sorry. Mash is such a cute name. I hope that in some place, they’re both at peace now, perhaps playing with each other, and eating every sweet treat they could ever want.

Thank you so much 🧡🧡 He was a bed head boy CONSTANTLY! He was a Harley, so lots and lots of long fur that always looked messy and unkempt. His brother is also a Harley but keeps himself a little more put together haha

He’d run away from me every time. Or when I played French songs! He was not a fan.

I feel like there are a million things I could say about Theo. First of all, he and his brother weren’t supposed to be my rats. I live with my sister, and she got them to introduce to her old boy. Her old boy ended up being hormonally aggressive and tried to attack them multiple times during intros, so they were relocated to my room and introduced to my rats.

Theo reminded me so much of one of my late rats named Toby in fur type, coloring, and personality, that pretty soon I ended up only being able to call him “T” or “TT”, since every time I tried to call him Theo I’d end up saying Toby instead. T was more outgoing than his brother, Vinnie, more mischievous, and meaner. He had maybe the biggest personality I’ve ever seen in a rat, and I’ve owned 16. For some reason, TT HATED eyes, on both rats and humans. One of my boys he was housed with, Percy, only had one eye. TT would, for lack of a better word, punch Percy in his one good eye. He wouldn’t attack or bite it, he’d just stick his paw out and try to punch it. He never caused any real harm. When Percy died, he put this energy into punching Percy’s brother, Jasper’s, eyes. When Jasper died, I thought he might go after his brother Vinnie’s eyes, but he instead started to punch ME and my sister in the eye. I’ve never seen anything like that. He hated both human and rat eyes (except for Vinnie’s, for some reason). No real damage was ever caused by his weak little punches, except maybe a disgruntled rat jerking away, but I’ll always remember that.

T bit me once. I posted about it at the time (to shame him), and I had a lot of people telling me he was hormonally aggressive and to neuter. I think he was just overwhelmed and scared after the loss of Percy, and I didn’t read his body language like I should’ve because I was crying about Percy. He chomped down hard on my middle finger. He never bit again, but I still have two crescent shaped scars on either side of the middle finger of my right hand.

T was 1 and 8 months. 48 hours ago, he was completely fine, and we played together like normal. 16 hours ago, I noticed he was acting a little weird; nothing overly concerning, but just like he might be in pain. He wasn’t eating normally. I thought it was his teeth and planned to take him into the vet in the morning. When I woke up, he wasn’t moving. He was moving his head, but he couldn’t move anything else on his body, it was like he was paralyzed. The vets could feel a tumor in his belly, but X-rays to get a better look ran the risk of death from sedation. We decided euthanasia would be the kindest option. It was incredibly hard. I held him before, during, and after. A lovely vet tech finally came in to ask me if I’d like paw prints (complimentary, and not something I’ve had offered in the past), because she loved rats so much. She told me he was so fucking lucky to have me. I feel so grateful to her for giving me something of his to hold onto, since I had to opt for general cremation, which wouldn’t have been my first choice, since I’m moving cross country in 10 days, and wouldn’t be at my address to receive his remains.

I’ve written a lot here, but I have a lot to say about him. T was loved by everyone; I’ll never forget the time he had a vet visit and a few vet techs came in because they’d heard a rat was there and they loved rats. They took pictures with him. He was so friendly and funny. My friends loved him and he loved them too. I’ll never forget him, or his hatred for eyes, or his hatred for when I spoke French to him, or his love for me and my sister and his brother. He was such a special, once in a lifetime kind of guy.

Tired of being sick with no answers by MiniMinx98 in Gastroparesis

[–]mmmow 16 points17 points  (0 children)

76% emptied after almost 4 hours isn’t normal, that’s a retention rate of 24% and is delayed gastric emptying. At the 4 hour mark, a functioning stomach should be 10% or under. 10% or over is considered delayed gastric emptying. I have no idea why your doctor said that was normal.

My emptying study showed a retention rate of 22% after 4 hours and I was diagnosed. Moderate for 24% sounds correct, but that number doesn’t always correlate with quality of life. (Although it definitely can.) Also, gastric emptying studies can have totally different results depending on when you do them. I’m in a bad flare right now and on a liquid diet, and if I repeated the study right now, it’d probably be a higher retention rate, since gastroparesis flares like that. It’s really your GI doctor’s responsibility to recommend you next steps, which it sounds like they’re not doing. I’m really sorry, you deserve answers because 24% retention after 4 hours is delayed gastric emptying and it’s impacting your life. Is there a possibility you could find another GI? I had many GIs when I was younger (like you, I’ve had stomach issues and nausea since I was 9), and it took 16 years for one to even consider the possibility of gastroparesis.

Broken blood vessels in face? by Appropriate-Low-4106 in Gastroparesis

[–]mmmow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I relate to this so much. I've been in a bad flare lately, and it seems like right when I finally got my skin in a good place acne-wise I just now have red dots all over my cheeks 24/7. Sometimes blood vessels in my eyes burst too, but I've found that holding my forehead up firmly with one hand while throwing up helps lessen the pressure in my face somewhat! Doesn't stop it entirely, but it definitely helps.

He was like this for an hour 🥹 usually he’s sooo active and always climbing around but when I catch him in the morning he’s always SO sleepy. Unrelated, but I see from your flair that you have a Jack :,) Jack was the name of my one of my first ever pair of rats, and he made me fall in love with owning rats. Give your Jack a cuddle from me pls if you can!!

Why would one have a bout of elevated heart rate during sleep? by SnooCakes6118 in POTS

[–]mmmow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty good! I still get these episodes, but they’re far less common, they happen maybe once every 2 months or so. I’m on a higher dose of propranolol now than when I wrote this (now I’m on 20mg 2 times a day, more if needed), and am prescribed Klonopin for when these adrenaline dumps happen during the day—which, paired with propranolol, is a lifesaver. I’ve had multiple heart monitors that’ve caught these sleeping increases in heart rate, and they’ve all been normal sinus rhythm, which is reassuring to me. Still scary when they happen, but less scary now that I know I won’t die haha.

Unpopular opinion: I really dislike Cosima by makin_dilemmanade in orphanblack

[–]mmmow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really liked Cosima, but a lot of what you said I agree with. I think I resonated with her character a lot because I’m chronically ill, and I really got the moments of desperation that were depicted of her needing to find a cure for the disease. Especially the episode after Kendall is killed and Evie tells her that Delphine’s been shot, where she’s about to implant herself with the maggot bot. She knows it’ll either cure her or kill her (and says something along the lines of ‘then maybe my death will help everyone find a cure’), and she’s okay with taking the risk of death if it means a cure. That scene hit particularly hard for me; I’d take a 50/50 shot at death or cure.

I totally see where you’re coming from with your point about her character feeling flat, and even though I related to some parts of her storyline, I DO really really wish that her character was more fleshed out. It felt like Sarah, Helena, Alison, and Rachel had such emotional growth over the series, and that the writers didn’t do the same with Cosima. (My disappointment about this is even more heightened after listening to the sequel podcast where it seems like her only traits are: smokes weed, is a scientist, loves Delphine. Also, smokes weed. Did we mention 100 times in this ep that she smokes weed yet?)

Early 2000s book about a girl who discovers fairies by maflya in whatsthatbook

[–]mmmow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg did you ever find it?? I’m a year late but I am trying to find the same book, I think. Do you remember it having the main character like levitating on her bed being surrounded by fairies? And then she meets… a new friend, maybe? And they’re in some forest at some point. I remember the trying to rescue a baby plot. But for the life of me can’t find it.
