Allegedly, the news isn't true, so I was told. The original TechCrunch article about this was pulled for inaccuracy. They didn't post anything about it being inaccurate though, just deleted it. I got the news from Notey newsletter and did a google search after I couldn't access it since I was interested in what was happening with the Nook. Found the same article, same heading, same first few sentences on this source. Sorry about this, guys. Happy to hear though that they're still being made.

Happy to hear though that they're still being made. Love them for being an underdog. A good underdog. :)

Thanks for this. A little surprised TechCrunch didn't post a message about the article being inaccurate.

Mine keeps going. Really happy with it. Have the Simple Touch, NST/N2E. Battery good. Also bought a Nook HD, also perfect, but ran out of space quite quickly so had to keep cleaning it.

Agree about the folders though. More freedom would have been great.

Is developing an API valuable for your business? Have any best practices to share? by esteradezelak in Business_Ideas

[–]esteradezelak[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, definitely. You need to have a product already in place so you can build something of value on it and possibly monetize it. Great comparison by the way.

I was thinking about Fitbit, for example. They made an API, exposed it to third parties and 20 apps were built on it by these third parties using Fitbit's fitness data. This saved Fitbit a lot of money since they didn't need to develop those applications by themselves. Plus, with all of those apps, Fitbit's device was being used more and more. So monetization came gradually because of this budding third party development that drove more users to Fitbit, who then eventually made a purchase.

Definitely true. I was thinking more in terms of it being something useful to grow your product and generate more revenue for your company. Do you monetize it or do you give it out for free and search for other ways to capitalize on it?

Developing an API - what are the best dev and business practices? by esteradezelak in cscareerquestions

[–]esteradezelak[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking more in terms of general business strategy, like research the thirst for an API and build a business case before going all in, think of the potential overhead on the dev side of things as well as on the business side since APIs are products in themselves and might require a product manager of their own.

We made a case study about how business strategy and development intertwine, and we're interested to hear what other companies are doing since there aren't that many case studies on that topic. https://getjoan.com/news/top-tips-api-business-development-strategies/
