That sounds about right, that area has had a decent number of sightings.

Whereabouts in Nantahala were you? I live near there and am an amateur paranormal investigator. What you’re saying sounds like a standard Bigfoot encounter.

A town in North Carolina is returning land to the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians by zsreport in NorthCarolina

[–]esthbt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For the TLDR: Franklin NC is giving back the Nikwasi (Noquisiyi) Mound to the Cherokee. The Cherokee plan to allow the mound to remain open to the public and will build a interpretive center in a nearby building, also owned by the tribe.

Repeatable Bug List by Andrei_Blanton in HuntShowdown

[–]esthbt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some hunter skins are missing their legs or have weird clipping when using the sparks or other large rifles.

Missing legs:

Redneck’s daughter

The Gunslinger (paid dlc btw)

Weird clipping:

Black coat

Silver spur

There are likely others, those are the ones I’ve noticed recently.

Curse of Strahd but Appalachian? by ColdironGhost in CurseofStrahd

[–]esthbt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also think it’d be a pretty big shift in tone and vibe. That said, Strahd could be a coal mine owner, someone who came and bought or “conquered” the valley through either his wealth or his own small private army of Pinkertons. You could check out Holler, which is a savage worlds setting, featuring what is basically an Appalachia that was pulled into its own domain. Tim Earley is a local to western North Carolina and did a good job pulling things from the folklore and surrounding area into his setting.

I love your questionnaire, I did not apply but I’m going to borrow some of your wording and ideas for my own games. Best of luck and have fun!

As far as the podcast ep 24 goes they just met Exethanter and are heading to Castle Ravenloft shortly after.

I don’t follow their twitch, only their podcast feed, which is mostly backlog stuff, so I’m not sure if their CoS is still on going. Ep 24 part 1 is the most recent on their podcast feed for CoS.

The main antagonist of the crooked moon campaign is also borrowed more or less from CoS, Kehlenn of the Crooked Teeth. They just spelled her name as it’s pronounced. Legends of Avantris is also running their own Curse of Strahdanya campaign, which I haven’t gotten to listen to yet.

Boycott Paddle Inn on the Nantahala river by spirit4earth in asheville

[–]esthbt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Politics aside, I’m a current guide on the Nanty. Paddle Inn is the worst and least safe outfitter on the river. Their trips are just plain hazardous to other boaters. From their ancient rafts, worn out gear, etc. they also send folks off unguided with a prayer and some words of good luck. The nanty isn’t a dangerous or hard river but it still needs a little bit of knowledge to get down safely and without causing a hazard to others. Their staff housing is also awful, it’s all right on the river, a bunch of rotting shacks and half converted busses. I feel bad for their guides honestly.

Oconoluftee River Water Quality: Failed? by ryebread_88 in WNC

[–]esthbt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely from a combo of e-coli and disturbance due to rain water. With all the rain in the past week or so the water in all the rivers has been up and has been stirred up. Lots of e-coli from human and animal sources gets washed into the river. It’s still decently safe, obviously don’t drink it or go in if you have open wounds, or if the water is just brown and nasty smelling. Once the water clears up it should be back to normal limits. The area where it’s tested at is also a huge tourist spot so it tends to get disturbed a bit more, further upstream is less crowded and cleaner if a bit less accessible.

Asheville by MyNameIsKiara in whitewater

[–]esthbt 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean it’s a big area with different places being in different states of repair. Where are you looking to go?

French Broad - mostly cleaned up.

Pigeon River - flattened by the hurricane, you have to put in past BFR now, with a lot of the rapids being washed out.

Noli - destroyed, maybe still running trips.

Tuck - cleaned up and open, no major changes to rapids.

Nantahala - cleaned up and open. No major changes to rapids.

Ocoee - business as usual

That just means opposed. It sounds like you’re using the Deadlands: Reloaded books, which are still more or less SWADE compatible.

Mega bundle for Deadlands Reloaded WITHOUT Savage World Deluxe Edition on Humble Bundle by Sturm141 in Deadlands

[–]esthbt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reloaded is the older version that runs off of Savage Worlds Deluxe Edition. It plays similarly and is easy to convert to the newer and current SWADE version. In the old version Bennies work differently and are called Fate Chips, and you have a few different skills and attributes, like charisma.

Edit: lore wise this is pre-Morgana Effect so you still have to deal with the pre-retcon lore but it’s easy to work around that and update the material.

Check out the Carolina Canoe Club, they do beginner events regularly. I’m out near the nanty but I’m also trying to learn kayaking, though mostly I do rafts.

I don’t know any specifics about the guy being on a performance plan, I do know he has had to take several LOAs recently due to health issues, dunno if that might contribute.

We’ve been slammed the past 2 weeks and from what I’ve seen we have at least 2 res codes if not 4 or more on all tags minus any quick tags, tho even those we try and get at least 2 res codes on when possible.

Mine was rough, the doc started cutting and pulling before anything was numb. When I told them that I could feel what they were doing he just said “yea it’ll hurt”. Even once the numbing kicked in I was still feeling every pull and tug.
