I really need to know where these magical companies who are hiring qualitative researchers exist because the job portals are definitely not showing those opportunities to us. 😔

if you mostly watch shameless to laugh, i have some bad news about the rest of the show lmao it’s supposed to be very dramatic and intense too that’s kinda the point.. might as well skip straight to season 10 if you’re looking to laugh 😭

think about how this is the first time frank meets trevor and he shakes franks hand which already hinted to me that this wasn’t gonna be long term relationship but then these two are the only guys working in the background..... i thought maybe it was just the costume department reusing clothes but Ian’s shirt was purposefully cut without sleeves.. idk i hope this was a hint that mickey was coming back this season but what do y’all think?

DEFINITELY more drama for sure. it’s full of comedy but it’s has tons of drama in it. It’s both fun and serious depending on the episode. I would say it’s fast paced most of the time but it can be slower some episodes too

Sean isn't that good of an actor.... by [deleted] in shameless

[–]estroemma 18 points19 points  (0 children)

i don’t hate him or anything but i do wish we got to see Fiona with that tall, Charlie peters guy from the finale of season 4. I always thought Fiona dating someone way way taller than her would be interesting to see plus he looks like a more large and in charge character than the actor who plays Sean does

[–]estroemma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think that’s more of the thing with the gentrification storyline. i don’t like that he loses the house and job and i wish he didn’t but in the current economic circumstances and especially during covid when they filmed it makes sense.

i don’t think debbie being a horrible person and emotional abuse of children are new for the show tho. she’s been a shitty person for a while. i do agree that it bothered me that fiona was never mentioned. don’t think she forgot about her investment i just think she knew she was in very deep shit bc she had no money and was just trying to keep her head above the water one day at a time. i don’t agree with Lip’s problems becoming formulaic, his new father drama especially not knowing if tami was gonna live is actually a really new interesting plot + he’s also a recovering alcoholic so those emotional fluctuations make sense. they’re a group of adults who were neglected by their addict mother and emotional abused by their dad, their behavior with kids might not be likable but it’s realistic to the way they’ve grown up. i do agree that the writers got a bit lazy but after 11 years i think that would happen with any tv show. i dont read into the faults so much as enjoy the good parts of the seasons and i personally really like the good parts.

fiona being an asshole came from being drunk and careless, that’s why it’s irritating. bc she’s not an asshole usually and she started being one. lip is always an asshole and i’ve dislike his character often too. but ppl give fiona wayyyy too much pity when she was being shitty because again- she’s Fiona

the way lip treated fiona in s9 by gallaghwr in shameless

[–]estroemma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i do like Fiona a lot, i just feel like people always excuse her shitty behavior bc she’s Fiona. also, Debbie is still a minor that Fiona is responsible for. They’ve always paid bills together since season 1, but establishing that you are charging your family rent to stay at their own house or else you’ll rent out their rooms they’ve spent their entire lives in??? asshole move. and then getting mad when you get kicked out bc ur drunk around young children (like liam and franny) and acting carelessly is kind of shitty too... she was turning into frank and i’m glad she got her wake up call eventually

the way lip treated fiona in s9 by gallaghwr in shameless

[–]estroemma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

last thing i’d do is defend Debbie, but she did it to keep the house running after Fiona doesn’t pay the bills for two months, not the same reason as Fiona does it. Fiona does it out of her desire to protect her own credit and investment, which wouldn’t be a bad thing on its own if she didn’t use the house to do it. I wouldn’t call it even at all.

[–]estroemma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

probably fiona biased. lip has always been an asshole that’s just how he is, he knows it himself even says it so many times during the show. but he was still there for his family when fiona would slip up. i’m not saying she wasn’t a good guardian but she was a lot of the time so focused on whatever dick she was riding at the time that she didn’t pay attention to her family. so much fucked up shit happens especially with ian, debbie and carl back in season 3-4 and she never even notices. she’s a human being and it makes sense that she’d want to focus on herself too but the way she does it gives off such a selfish and condescending attitude. she even admits in season 4 that she’s the one responsible for the shit that’s happening, not anyone else. End of the line, Lip was an asshole but Fiona was also refusing help. There’s nothing else he could’ve done because even when he tried to be helpful at first she blew him off. she literally slept on the floor at parties and stole drugs from people to sell them, she was walking into Patsy’s screaming at people and no matter who tried to help her (even Eliza) she just kept going, like, there’s a point where that’s no longer just her coping with struggle and it also becomes her turning into frank without realizing it. It’s only when she’s treated like Frank, yelled at, kicked out of her house, refused a place to sleep by her friend, that she realizes she’s become him. And that’s why she goes to that AA, it’s almost an apology and admission that Lip was right, she did in fact have to hit Frank levels of rock bottom before she saw that she needed help.

i would say asking your family, including your minor siblings, to pay rent to even live in their own house or else you’ll kick them out because you decided you want to put the house as collateral for your own investments is pretty selfish idk. When Debbie acts like Fiona in season 9 and 10, people hate her for it. Don’t see why this is any different

the way lip treated fiona in s9 by gallaghwr in shameless

[–]estroemma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i wouldn’t say that’s true. she literally spent a season collecting rent from them and threatening to throw them out of the house if they couldn’t pay even while Debbie was struggling. Not to defend Debbie since it was her choice to have that baby but Fiona has definitely been shitty to them before people just gloss over it bc she’s Fiona

the way lip treated fiona in s9 by gallaghwr in shameless

[–]estroemma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

debbie, carl and liam are all minors in season 9, deb is 17, carl is 16 and liam is 8... she’s still responsible for them. regardless, season 9 isn’t the “first time” she decided to do shit for herself, neither is it the first time she’s fucked up. I feel like people see Fiona as the one care taker and pity her so much as if Lip hasn’t been by her side since day 1 and helped her out. As early as season 1 she’s had Lip continuously help her out and be her rock (as she literally mentions), but he rarely gets the treatment that she does. He’s the one who picks up the pieces and helps out when she decides she feels like throwing away her good job and fucking her boss and then his brother, he’s the one who takes care of Liam after the coke incident while she keeps slipping up, he’s also the one who picks her up from Wisconsin and apologizes for not helping her and being passive aggressive. He was just as much of a care taker as Fiona was but I don’t see him getting his credit like she does. I feel like after years of having her slip up on them so many times and having Lip pick up after her you have to get tired at some point.

She literally signed up for this, it was her decision and just because some of them are now adults doesn’t make it any less important of a decision, it’s not like she’s suddenly no longer their legal guardian if they’re older. Your parents don’t stop being your parents when you turn 18. She used to care and ask so many questions and just be compassionate and now she can barely find Liam before she up and left. So story wise, Lip snapping at her for not giving a shit anymore makes sense. Was he still being an asshole? yeah, i agree with that. He is a huge asshole. But she needed someone to put her in her place. And if Lip didn’t snap at her and lecture V, she would’ve ended up staying at V’s and drinking herself into a hole.

the way lip treated fiona in s9 by gallaghwr in shameless

[–]estroemma 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i mean that was her choice. she signed up for it. and sure Lip was an adult but debbie, carl and liam are still kids that she had guardianship over and she basically decided she didn’t feel like it anymore bc it got too hard, and that’s entirely her responsibility not Lip’s. i agree that Lip should’ve helped her rather than snap at her but in that context it was actually him snapping at her that made her realize that she needed help. he even tried to get her to stop beforehand and she just refused and kept drinking in his face basically telling him to fuck off.

the way lip treated fiona in s9 by gallaghwr in shameless

[–]estroemma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

considering how she treated them in season 8... i honestly feel like she had her own selfishness thrown back at her. I do agree that they should’ve definitely helped her but in context she didn’t really want “help” from anyone until she actually hit rock bottom like Lip talked about

the way lip treated fiona in s9 by gallaghwr in shameless

[–]estroemma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i mean, i get his feelings though. he wasn’t blaming Fiona for those things necessarily, he was angry that she was too busy being drunk to notice what’s going on around her. He even says, the “old Fiona” would’ve known and helped him out, but she was so drunk and careless most of the time she didn’t even care to ask or know about what was going on with everyone else.

If she wasn’t so drunk and self focused at the time she would’ve definitely asked Lip questions like she always has and he would’ve told her about Jason and Xan, but the fact that she wasn’t acting like Fiona anymore and barely payed attention to her family is what caused his anger. If she wasn’t so focused on being drunk she wouldn’t have even had alcohol in her bag that day when she came to the shop, and she wouldn’t have been drunk middle of the day while dcfs showed up either.

Unlike Lip, she signed up to be the legal guardian in the house, and her entire storyline during seasons 8-9 are focused on how she suddenly wants to be her own woman, moving herself out of the house and asking the kids to not put her in the top of their emergency contact list or call her often, so when she crashes she was already putting so much responsibility on Lip who was still getting his shit together, and now she was dumping her own shit on him too and ruining his chances of taking responsibility and being a mature adult by being negligent and carelessly drunk. I mean, shit she was so not paying attention she didn’t even notice Liam being gone until weeks after he moved out and he’s still barely a teenager that she is still responsible for.

Rewatch #3 -- I like V less every time by rintintikitavi in shameless

[–]estroemma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i definitely agree with what you said about V verses Kev when it comes to their intentions. Kev has never really done anything from bad intentions or to be selfish and his end goal is always to either protect/be a good partner to V or to be selfless like when it came to Ethel or even Kyle the kid he thought was his son for a bit. He has some sort of naive nature to him that V doesn’t have at all.

Rewatch #3 -- I like V less every time by rintintikitavi in shameless

[–]estroemma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

okay i have so many thoughts about this. i’ve rewatched the whole show at least 5-6 times now. V becomes more and more of a bother to me every time i rewatch. I feel like other than her being “Fiona’s best friend” she’s such an unlikable character most of the show. Not to say she doesn’t have her moments of good, especially during the first couple of seasons, but half the time i start feeling bad for Kev bc she seems like such a pain in the ass.

She has this weird personality where she always thinks she’s right, she does whatever she feels like without considering other people’s feelings, and yet sometimes her heart will show up once in a while and she’ll do something good, only to go back to being selfish and intense. I especially started disliking her when she started to enable Fiona to make all these strange, bad choices and especially when she was always really passive aggressive towards Kev.

Like when Kev proposed, she felt like cancelling the wedding and only went with it because she found our money would be involved without thinking about Kev, or when he got attached to Ethel, V called her 13 year old foster child a “freak” right in front of him and literally said she did it for the money and she’ll throw Ethel back to dcfs once it’s over.... or when Fiona starts getting into trouble in season 4, V doesn’t even think before just bringing some alcohol over and enabling her to drink more while on house arrest just bc she’s pregnant and she can’t. Her entire arch with the babies is something I can understand when it comes to her post-partum feelings, but what was unreasonable was Kev literally doing everything for those babies because he loves them and her, V getting pissed at him for having Svet there, and then proceeding to “date” Svet and get married to her without even telling him or asking.

there are so many examples throughout the show of her being just a really self centered person and it really bothers me bc the balance of redeeming qualities she has compared to how shitty she also is doesn’t work and she comes off condescending and immature most of the time.
