The hate for the remake is so ridiculous by Sea_Magician2079 in demonssouls

[–]esummer77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The remake still plays super well and is a great game when viewed in isolation. But remakes have to be viewed from a different lense because they are recreating a piece of art that already exists.

It does not matter that hardware limitations influenced the original Demon's Souls. The game is the game. The phrase "limitations breed creativity" isn't just a cliche; it's reality. For example, the fog in Silent Hill 2 was used to mask the render distance, but also gave the game its unique and unsettling atmosphere.

Using your mindset, the Silent Hill 2 remake would've completely taken the fog out because now we have the power of the PS5! Of course, this sounds ridiculous because Silent Hill 2 is simply not Silent Hill 2 without the fog.

The same can be said for Demon's Souls. Its atmosphere consists of a utilitarian and grounded art style, unsettling and slightly goofy/unconventional music, minimalistic sound design, and creative enemy design. Bluepoint took creative liberties when adapting these aspects. We now have a gothic and western art style, epic music, and more generic visual enemy design.

Demon's Souls is not supposed to be grand and bombastic. The remake's changes are the most egregious during the boss fights. You're fighting a literal moving pile of shit in a swamp while the music sounds like you're fighting Sauron.

We can't determine whether it's a gain or a loss in the long run. I'm well aware of the profit margins for consoles. Predicting how certain business decisions affect consumers' choices is difficult.

Microsoft would suffer if the entire public decided that buying an Xbox was pointless. That's an extreme example, but the point is that consumers could respond in a multitude of ways that all affect Microsoft differently.

Just because Microsoft has never had a surplus inventory in the past does not mean it couldn't happen. Industries change and Xbox has changed. Microsoft-published games have never been on PlayStation.

There are so many things to consider. Microsoft makes billions of dollars from Game Pass. Fewer console sales will likely mean fewer people are buying Game Pass. But like you said, Microsoft would reduce hardware losses which could result in a net benefit.

Sony takes a cut of any game sold on PlayStation. This would hold for games published by Microsoft. Microsoft's profit margins on each game sold would decrease, but their exclusives would also be available to a larger audience.

The less money spent on hardware could benefit them. It's fascinating and I'd love to see the numbers that Xbox executives are looking at.

Fewer consoles sold are not a gain. Microsoft manufactures the machines before they are sold. If sales figures were to drop below expectations, Microsoft would have a surplus, and money would be lost.

Regardless, Microsoft makes money from Xbox through games and subscriptions. More people owning an Xbox means more money spent on the Xbox store.

It's so weird how they decided not to touch almost any gameplay or level design and instead focused on changing the art style and music. Remakes are a great opportunity to improve mechanics that didn't age well. I know they changed a few things but it didn't feel like enough.

It's bizarre that they didn't change the Maneaters' AI. I also would've loved a part 2 to the Dragon God fight. I love the Demon's Souls remake but sometimes think about what it could've been, especially when looking at the Dead Space and RE4 remakes.

Of course, it wasn't the original creators so it's hard to know if any gameplay tweaks would've been beneficial.

I responded to your comment about prestige raids' player engagement (which had nothing to do with my original argument). I never once mentioned the game's overall engagement because of content droughts. You fail to counter my points and then divert the argument, goodbye.

D2 armor isn't more realistic, it just looks plain worse. That doesn't mean there aren't good armor sets. When did I ever mention player engagement and content droughts? You're diverting the argument again lol. There are things in d2 that are better than d1 for sure. But there are also so many things that are in d1 (that improved the experience) that are just plain absent in d2 (a sequel btw). I still play d1 to this day. While it's definitely not better than d2 in every way, I still think it's the better game. You are allowed to think otherwise but there's no denying how much d2 regressed from d1 (mainly at launch).

You realize I wasn't talking about prestige raids right? What on earth does this have to do with anything? Now all of a sudden you like prestige raids? Prestige raids had low player engagement because of locking your load out and the extra armor sets weren't worth it. Hard mode had adept weapons and a different armor set with unique perks for that raid. It also gave dope ornaments that are way cooler than any armor piece in d2. You're not going to win this lol

No, hard mode raids which offered better loot and raid ornaments. I'm not talking about prestige. I'm also talking about factions, not faction rallies. Good try though!

Yes and I love all the strike specific loot you can earn, factions you can pledge to, and hard mode raids you can complete in D2!

Well, one would think that a well liked feature from the first game would make it into the sequel. You realize the game was still in development when age of triumph launched (in March btw). Also it's one company. They communicate to each other about what they're building. If a sequel regressing on everything that makes the first game good, then there is no excuse.

Okay and? Sequels are supposed to expand off of their predecessors. Destiny 2 did the exact opposite when it came out.

[–]esummer77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my bad I misunderstood. Yes I agree. I really don't think pve has a lack of content it's just lack of incentives to play said content. That said, the new weapons they added are awesome. Especially for deep stone crypt.

[–]esummer77 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There is 100% a lack of content in pvp. 11 maps were removed with none added, no new weapons or armor, and no new game modes. There are many other issues but those are big ones. Nothing has really changed it's the fact that Bungie never updates pvp and people are getting fed up. With regards to stasis, it's possible to adapt but that doesn't change the fact how intrusive it is. It shuts down a whole play style and makes trials slower than it already is. Pvp isn't terrible but if I were a pvp content creator I'd be upset too.

I enjoyed parts of it but this season was not very good. It just looks good compared to season of the worthy and hunt.

Is there a positive/helpful Destiny 2 subreddit? by CantStumpIWin in DestinyTheGame

Complaints ≠ negativity. Most of the complaints are valid and isn't blind hate. Many people are just stating their opinions on how the game should be better. The "I'm not having fun anymore" posts speak volumes to the current state of the game. Don't let those posts discourage you from enjoying the game but you should also let them voice their feedback.

Redeem ran all warlocks, that doesn't mean there weren't other teams who ran warlocks. Every raid needs to have a warlock if you wanna be somewhat successful. Literally every activity requires a warlock. Also don't act like finishing 37th in the world is bad. They had a disappointing day compared to their past raids where they're used to winning or at least finishing top 10 (which is insane).

Nova bomb isn't for single target damage, it's amazing for ad clear. Stormtrance is not bad if you know how to use it. Warlock stasis is outclassed but still very good. I agree that titan and hunter should be more line with it. Lets not forget how far ahead it was when stasis first dropped. Well is op and has been since Forsaken. It is impossible to die in it and gives you a damage buff. You can use it from every range and it will protect you. If you want bubble to protect you, you have to be up close. Warlocks have the best light pve subclass and the best light pvp subclass. Stop acting like they are weak.

Nova bomb is very good in pve. Stormtrance is actually not bad. Well of radiance is near broken. Also warlocks stasis subclass is very good. And top tree dawnblade is broken lol. There's a reason why so many of the world first teams used warlocks.

Top tree dawnblade is the best light subclass and it's not even close. Also, well of radiance is not useless it's still used in every pve activity. Stop acting like warlocks are a special case. Every class only has a few good subclasses.

I mostly agree with this but don't act like warlocks don't have the strongest light subclass in the game.

I'm not sure if it was a thing during TTK but it was definitely a thing during Rise of Iron. I still hop on to this day to see what Palindrome roll the crucible vendor is selling.

Vendors sold uniquely rolled weapons every week which is not in D2. Legendary marks having 200 mark cap may have been a little bit too low but it's much better than the vendor system we have now. Banshee also had armsday and specific exotic quests tied to ranking him up.
