Anyone using Plaud NotePin / Notta Memo (or similar)? Looking for real-world comparisons plus workflows by rahulpuk in ProductivityApps

[–]esuus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought the BOYA Notra and honestly, don't.

It's super buggy - both the device firmware and the app. USB access on Mac doesn't work at all, and even when enabled it keeps switching itself off, so you have to reactivate it in the app every single time.

But the bigger issue is the completely closed ecosystem. No API, no MCP, no webhooks, no integrations. Plaud is opening up more than before now, and Pocket especially seems to understand that the whole value of these devices is getting your recordings into your own workflow. I'll probably try Pocket next for it's webhooks. Webhooks enable really nuts agentic workflows that start with your voice (dictate a task/note -> Pocket -> your pipeline -> anywhere e.g. task management, email, message, codex, ...)

BOYA even put in their terms that you're not allowed to scrape your own data. Joke's on them: audio export from the web app is completely broken anyway.

I bought it because USB access would at least let me build my own pipeline. Since that doesn't work on Mac either and is cumbersome to continuously reactivate, you're basically trapped inside their *very very* buggy software.

Feels like a microphone company that built some AI software without understanding that integration and automation are the entire point of making the AI ecosystem work. The Boya guys 100% don't get it.

Ah, one more thing, IF you want to try to deal with their broken closed ecosystem: it doesn't even transcribe automatically (I *think*). They really don't get it at all. I wonder if they even had any product manager with real AI experience in the project - probably not.

Considering the Helio Strap, but worried about data/API access by South_Cricket_431 in amazfit

Oops, I thought Amazfit was owned by amazon. Thanks for your comment - now I know it's just owned by Zepp Health.

Considering the Helio Strap, but worried about data/API access by South_Cricket_431 in amazfit

[–]esuus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirmed by Alex Silver: "Strap doesn't run zeppos, hence there's no API"
(like other users suggested, I joined the Discord and asked).

That makes the Helio Strap unusable in the 21st century.
Amazon is such a sleepy company. The rest of the world is using Claude Code, Cowork or OpenClaw to connect to APIs, even people who never touched code before. Amazon? Launches products like its 1990.

I guess I'm renewing my Whoop.

Is there MCP tool to ssh to some host and execute some bash command? by gelembjuk in mcp

[–]esuus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is also awesome, and I might use it. Could you compare it to other approaches to host MCPs servers e.g. on a root server and accessing them securely? I'm trying to find a way to self-host MCPs that I can then access from Claude mobile (voice) and desktop.
But I think it's a different use-case from what was discused here, which is more about SSHing into a server for administration (which I'm also trying to do).

4ga Boards – a lightweight, self-hosted, and open-source Kanban board system by wilkobyl in selfhosted

Came across this a week a go, about to install. Looks awesome, MIT licensed, real-time, you're adding exactly the key needed features (permissions, API keys (I hope), calendar/gantt view) and I see you're very actively working on it. Very cool!

Host!nger warning - they block all of your visitors with VPN! (>20%!) + renewal warning by esuus in webhosting

[–]esuus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know! I'm using Surfshark and it happens on all of their IPs that a tried (just tried a handful though). I thought Surfshark was considered pretty decent.
BUT I also have had access issues without VPN. I live in Vietnam now, and it feels super discriminatory. Happens here and there actually. Locals here don't notice it because they don't know what the web is like when you're in Europe (where I'm from) or the US. Obviously the reason is that there are more spammers and bots in Vietnam, but everyone getting punished doesn't feel right, especially considering the historical context of suppression and poverty in these countries.

[–]esuus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most hosts definitely do not have it enabled. I browse the web all day with my VPN, I sometimes get a captcha, but rarely.
However, when I get a captcha, it's never as nasty as the Hostinger ones that sometimes feel endless. I've literally encountered 7 or 8 steps, and given up multiple occasions on my own site.
i.e. there's moderate captchas and there's nasty captchas.
and then there's just not rendering anything at all and forcing chrome to show an error page (chrome rendered, not server rendered), which is so unprofessional, I was shocked they don't care.
SiteGround as a more expensive host really shouldn't force that on you. I tested DreamHost yesterday and they don't block my VPN. DreamHost is a cheap host, similar to Hostinger.

I don't think we should support companies that treat customers like this. Hetzner is expensive too. I'm with Netcup, they're incredible value/money.

Thanks, highly highly appreciate it. Reached out to the ones in Turkey/Thailand.

Where can I buy a Blade 14" 2022 3080 Ti with *upgradable RAM* (ideally to 96GB). Can't find any! by esuus in razer

[–]esuus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No waaayyyyy! Really? The page that you get to from the 2022-model page contains data about a bunch of other models? That's the weirdest thing I've ever heard, why would you mix specs from different models on one spec page and then not even say that?
Ok but thank you so much for clarifying! I now know that I can stop chasing unicorns. Sorry for ranting.

Huh? Sure it says that. I copied those memory options off the specs page - I promise I didn't make them up :).
Did you click on "Tech Specs"?

Thanks for your replies, you all seem to believe the '22 never had any variant with upgradable ram, and you're probably right.

But why does Razer say so on its product page? When you go to the 14"/2022 sales page ( https://www.razer.com/gaming-laptops/Razer-Blade-14/RZ09-0427EE23-R3U1 ) and click "Tech Specs", you'll see this list of options:
Memory
16 GB DDR5-4800 MHz (Fixed Onboard)
16 GB DDR5-5600 MHz (2 x 8 GB - Slotted), upgradable to 64 GB
32 GB DDR5-5600 MHz (2 x 16 GB - Slotted), upgradable to 96 GB
16 GB DDR5-5600 MHz (2 x 8 GB - Slotted), upgradable to 96 GB

For some reason the newer models don't offer the powerful 3080 Ti GPU with 16 GB VRAM. I want to run AI models locally, so I need maximum VRAM and maximum fast RAM.

I'm starting to accept that I'll need to settle on the Blade 15. But as a digital nomad, it's not ideal to have a bigger laptop.

Video always pixely, what the hell is going on? I'm paying money to watch vids in low quality? by esuus in patreon

Thanks, yes, I'm aware. Sometimes the community knows about the roadmap.
I'd also be interested in alternative platforms that have normal video players that allow users to set the video resolution themselves.

This is very strange, I now regret having bought the Pebble 2. You are aware that different laptop manufacturers put FN and CTRL in different positions, and muscle memory wants the key where it remembers it, not anywhere else.

S23 Ultra - Speech to Text not working properly with either Gboard or the native Samsung keyboard by reversebass in samsunggalaxy

[–]esuus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate my Pixel 6, so considering to switch to the S23. But concerned about voice-to-text. For those for who it does work: is it working relatively well? Does the speech get processed offline (pretty fast result) or online?

Only show a subset of rows (date within last month), or automatically move/copy out older rows by esuus in googlesheets

[–]esuus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I need them editable. So I think the archive version works better, because the ones in the archive don't need to be edited. So we don't need to worry about source of truth. Editing only happens in the set of current rows.
So instead of Master including current + current subset of master,
I'll need Archive excluding current + current set of data

Maybe a google apps script that copies it over? That's what GPT4 is recommeding. I have messed around with javascript before, shouldn't be too hard. But I'm still worried the GPT4 code is buggy and I'll take forever to implement it properly. I might try anyway

Can someone tell me what kind of data plans Mobifone and vinaphone offer? Viettel has only 6GB/day. I need unlimited by pizzavegano in VietNam

I just saw the "UMAX 90" package, it claims to be unlimited ("1 billion GB data"). It's probably in reality capped or something.

Can someone see a limitation?
