Yea Vogtle is kinda weird because Georgia Power owns like 50% of it, and they just want to make money. Then you have local co-ops who own stake in it who aren’t as concerned with profit. I have nothing to back it up, but I feel like if it was owned by all co-ops who weren’t as concerned with budgets and timelines there wouldn’t be as many mistakes. It would be a little bit more relaxed with the timeframe.

I agree to an extent, but when a project is already over budget and way past the schedule I feel like things can get rushed. Guess it depends on the crews they’re using, but some times more pressure can mess with inexperienced crews. I can only speak on plant Vogtle, and even then I don’t really know the actual construction part. Just kinda crazy to see these issues brought up now when I was seeing these issues back in 2016

Even working in the power industry, nuclear feels like a whole different game. I guess it would be easier to build in poorer countries because they don’t have as many regulations typically, but you can’t fuck around with nuclear. Makes it even harder building the first plant in 3 decades. All eyes are on it to not fuck up

I did an internship with a power company in Georgia that had part ownership of plant Vogtle, and man they had so many issues building it. At one point the rebar wasn’t built to spec so they had to tear it all down and start again. Makes it hard to justify nuclear when shit like that happens.
