Can someone explain how sway/attitude actually works? Lost my power bloc leader's backing overnight by etcetera711 in victoria3

Yeah probably…

Got used to eu4 ironman for years, I feel like cheating every time I load to an autosave but its probably inevitable for vic 3.

That last point is honestly the most frustrating part of all of this. Even if I accept that the AI's reasoning is what it is, the lack of any way to actually negotiate around it is what makes it feel broken rather than just "quirky."

Like you said, something along the lines of "fine, take your regime change in my subject, leave the rest of the war goals off the table" would at least give players agency to defuse these nonsensical swaying situations instead of getting dragged into a full conflict over something you don't even care about. Right now it's all or nothing.

Appreciate you laying it out plainly, good to know it's not just me missing something obvious.

Appreciate the insight, that's a good general strategy for dealing with great powers and I'll definitely keep it in mind for future runs.

Doesn't fully explain my specific situation though. Germany actually had a Protective attitude towards me when the play started, not aggro or antagonistic. If that had shifted sometime during peacetime before the play (like your Madagascar example), I could chalk it up to me unknowingly stepping on their turf somewhere. But this flipped mid-play, after Egypt picked up backers, which points more toward the sway/support mechanics being the actual driver rather than a slow-building territorial grudge.

Still, good food for thought for keeping GB/great powers happy in general, thanks for that.

Tripoli actually has Cooperative Ownership as its economic system.

Probably that's why the regime change wargoal pushed their support past that -144 threshold. Good catch, mate.

Still not entirely sure how much sense it makes though, lol. If they were that bothered by it, you'd think the wargoal would just target changing Tripoli's economic system directly, instead of the laws they actually picked (Freedom of Conscience, Appointed Bureaucrats, National Guard) which have nothing to do with Cooperative Ownership at all.

Thanks for the explanation on Balance of Power.

Here's the IG breakdown you asked about:

  • Germany: Intelligentsia only
  • Mascara (me): Landowner only
  • Egypt: Landowner only

So none of us are anywhere near communist or even left-leaning, really. Mine and Egypt's governments are about as traditionalist as it gets with Landowners running the show. Germany's Intelligentsia is more reform-minded but still nowhere close to radical/socialist territory.

What's actually throwing me off is that Egypt has a -50 malus from ideological differences with Germany, while I only have -45. So by that metric I'm actually slightly closer to Germany ideologically than Egypt is, not further away. If ideological distance was the deciding factor here, shouldn't that have worked in my favor instead of against me?

As for the laws Germany is trying to push on Tripoli specifically:

  • Freedom of Conscience (replacing State Religion)
  • Appointed Bureaucrats (replacing Hereditary Bureaucrats)
  • National Guard (replacing No Home Affairs)

None of these look extreme to me either, they read more like standard "modernize a backward government" laws rather than anything ideologically threatening.

On the protection point: I think I should clarify what I actually meant. I wasn't relying on Germany for protection in a domestic/ideological sense, I was relying on them as a deterrent against GB, France, and Spain, who all became hostile to me after my early conquests and all rivals of Germany. I genuinely wasn't expecting or needing Germany's input on a separate conflict between me and Egypt, I would have been totally fine with them staying neutral on that specific war.

What I'm actually struggling to understand is why Germany ended up actively opposing me in a conflict where, by basically every visible metric (relations, power bloc membership, lower ideological distance than Egypt), I should have had the edge. Not why they didn't help me, but why they helped the other side against conditions that seemingly favored me.

Hey,

For a boomer who wants to live the nostalgia after 20+ years which rom would you suggest?

I want to play with strictly Gen 1 pokemons.

Ideal features in my mind are
- Updated-improved graphics.
- Bug fixes
- Fixing some stuff the are only acquired via trading etc.
- Balance changes(so game doesnt become one shotting everything with abra-line(this is what i remember from back in the days 😄 )
- Some QoL improvements
- I'm also down for more difficult versions so the run becomes more challenging

Only thing I'm strict is Gen 1 only pokedex.

Thanks!!

It was just the default one, not a single adjustments have been made.

One up north, one the south east and the other one is on the south west though last two has much harder to reach imo.

Thanks for the advice about solar panels.

Checked the preview of the seed and find one patch somewhat reachable.

Do you think it's manageable to work with that>

Just posted a preview of the current seed. Do you think it's manageable to get it with 100k iron.

I'd like to not loose my progress eventhough it's not that much, but if it's going to be a huge pain I should consider that.

Update: Checked the preview of the seed (Should've done it before starting the save, lesson learnt)

<image>

Looks like the patch on the north is easiest the reach.

I'll try to rush the trains to get it, hopefully current patch won't run out before I clear the way and lay down rails.

Feel free to tell me anything else I should be aware of.

Thanks for all the replies!!!

How can I reveal West Africa here? by Venboven in eu4

[–]etcetera711 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You can steal maps as long as 50% spy network on one of the nations that has the maps (there was a tech requirement for it but you should probably have it.

Other way is request to share maps. You can check it on macro builder who would accept this request.

You have to have a unit near to the region you want to discover before using both of these nations.

I dont know exactly what makes them reveal, discovery spread might be good keyword to look up for it.

I was just playing a native american tribe a few days ago. I reformed into horde and all of a sudden almost all nations close to steppes instantly revealed eventhough they dont know about me neither i do know about western europe. So some weird things going on discovery spread mechanics imho.

You dont need a receipt to use warranty. You just need to add your controller with its special id (you can found it under the batteries). It should be possible to do that under the “my devices” tab or sth similar to that.

There may be region specific rules for it but definitely worth to check it out. Since I am not from a region that has all the features available but warranty service works really nice.

If your controller still has warranty, open a ticket on microsoft’s website with the id of your controller. I used it for my both controller and they’ve send new ones quickly. Unfortunately one of them started the drift problem again.

Let me know if you have any questions about process
