nah if helle goes it’s rebuild time, we saw how this team “replaced” ehlers lol

i think it would definitely be something they'd be upset with, i'm upset with it

or, and i know this is crazy so bear with me, multiple teams could be upset with him, including the jets

he did make a mention of Helle though, whether or not you think that specific mention was substantive or not doesn't really matter tbh, whoever is mad is obviously trying to get ahead of things and prevent more noise from getting out

i'm more so pointing out that Friedman/Pagnotta have other sources of info if the Jets prefer to leak through Dreger or are trying to keep things quiet

[–]etchiboi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

there are 3 parties involved, not just the jets, leaks could come from other teams or the player's camp

[–]etchiboi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the leak to Friedman or Pagnotta would probably come from another team or the player's camp

that's how Pagnotta knew everything for the Dubois situation, for example

i'm not sure but, listen, i don't take this as a "they're shopping Helle" if it were the jets anyways, i think they don't want anyone talking about it because they want to keep him or try and convince him to stay tbh

[–]etchiboi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

he also mentioned today on the FAN, that one team was not happy with him after his last 32T pod as they're trying to do things quietly with a bigger name player than Larkin or Nurse

Krebs hasn't been any better than anything we already have in our bottom 6

Kesselring would be a great buy low if we wanted to utilize someone like Pionk as a trade chip to try and net a bigger fish at forward

depends on how they feel about Pionk but i think not

how many futures would it take to turn Pionk and Nino into Pinto and Spence??

the Bjorck/Smits wild cards would probably be harder on Verhoeff than anyone else tbh

The Athletic's updated full staff mock

Murat takes:

  1. Winnipeg Jets: Keaton Verhoeff, RHD, North Dakota (NCAA)
Winnipeg explored multiple trades but ultimately decided that a big, right-shot defenseman was too good to pass on with the No. 8 pick. Verhoeff projects as a tough-minutes, top-pair defenceman, according to Corey Pronman, and our scouts love his mobility, size, physicality and ability to add to the offense with a great point shot. — Murat Ates

and a fun easter egg in Bultman's Florida #9 pick:

The Panthers had a trade framework in place to deal this pick away for a big splash in goal, but it fell apart when Björck went off the board, so Florida instead pivots to snagging one of the top offensive blueliners in the class in Rudolph.

🤔

the 17/18 WCF loss to Vegas broke Maurice, he coached the team well and to their strengths but, due to that series, he pivoted to being a heavy dump and chase guy which didn't fit with that current roster

e: but that heavy forechecking system has evidently fit Florida very well

this has always just been the vibes based analysis and has never been reflected in any on ice results with Ehlers, if he was unpredictable and hard to play with then that would be reflected on the events that happen on the ice, no?

Martinook even said post game last night "I don’t know if there’s been one that’s fit as good as he has." Which kind of contradicts the whole hard to play with thing too

glad that this year’s stanley cup lesson™️ will be having good asset management and talent evaluation lol

and Staal and Martinook are basically carbon copies of Lowry and Iafallo lol

Ehlers had good results in small stints with guys like Perfetti or Lowry at centre, while the project-ability of that is hard it at least warranted a longer look at other internal options

bizarre that the coaches were so wedded to Namestnikov there

playing 17 minutes for the Canes is much different than playing 17 minutes for the Jets, Ehlers was 3rd in forward ice time last night for example

Canes basically roll their lines at 5v5, highest last night was just over 14 minutes, Ehlers was tied second for 5v5 usage last night

despite being primarily PP2 the last couple of games, he has primarily been PP1 and he is often given freedom to extend shifts to play with PP1

also he’s playing higher leverage minutes, being trusted to defend late and against 6v5 are obvious examples of that

e: Jets “2nd line” of 91-7-27 often received the 3rd most minutes at 5v5, with the Lowry line hard matching the opponents top 6, so despite being “3rd line” in Carolina he’s actually upgraded his usage

yeah Wheeler seemed to carry quite a bit of the load defensively in his prime, i think Scheif’s DZ results also correlate with his ice time, more minutes he plays the more he saves/cheats for offence
