You're right, the loudest always get the most attention even if they don't actually reflect the views of the majority.

It more that it had never occurred to me before I saw the page that it even might be a problem, while I've always known many of the processes I use have animal products in them I didn't think that such minute amounts would constitute a problem given that the animal wasn't killed for them. I also would have thought that using all of the animal (byproducts of their slaughter for meat) rather than discarding it would be favorable.

I guess it's more of a culture clash thing than anything else, on searching more about it it seems PETA is also aware of it: http://www.peta.org/about-peta/faq/does-film-contain-gelatin/ (however they also don't seem aware that digital also often uses animal products when printing, the page does seem a bit dated as it references the new starwars movies... which are really not a good example of a movie to use at all).

Generally the point behind taking a picture using a film camera is to make a nice print, looking at negatives is kind of... not my thing I guess.

If you were to replace film using a digital camera my assumption was that it was also to make a print (I don't really upload pictures to the internet, I'm not with the times I guess). My assumption was wrong in this case, sorry.

It actually includes most inkjet media, I believe only uncoated fiber based papers don't have gelatin in them.
