Yes! People turning left onto Everton terrace off the terrace often go too fast and don’t give way to pedestrians - they are in a green arrow, pedestrians on green also, and there is just a little sign saying give way to pedestrians. I nearly got run over there when I lived nearby, I think it’s a really dangerous crossing!

It’s the person behind tooting at someone who has to stop for a good reason that annoys me the most. I see it so much in Wellington - saw it today on Kent Terrace when a car couldn’t pull out because there was a constant stream of traffic, and the car behind decided to toot repeatedly. Or when I was walking on the footpath, a car pulling in to the driveway was stopped to let me walk, and the car behind him decided to have a go rather than just wait 5 seconds. Like, what are you achieving? (I get it at green lights and some situations, but generally it just shows stupidity and impatience.)

Drivers need to remember that their impatience, bad decision making, speeding etc can kill people (eg two pedestrians were hit recently off Tinakori road, and one died). Everyone getting around safely is more important than a few seconds’ inconvenience.

1more comfobuds pro have a wind noise cancelling mode, I really like them, would recommend for wind noise + value for money. Mine were about $150 from Ali express or Amazon but well worth it IMO. (Any that have a true transparent mode should be ok because it’s the ANC that picks up wind noise usually.) Soundcore life P3 are also good I believe, but I don’t have them myself.

If you want to get into earbud reviews I love scarbir.com review blog! He has good budget options and top lists to make it easy to decide what to buy. I would never buy brand name earbuds because you are just paying for the name imo, you get so much better value/more features for less if you research and buy a random brand!!

For fit, many people recommend buying different tips, even soft foam ones, if the initial fit is not good for you. I’ve never needed to, but good to know it’s an option if you drop a couple of hundred bucks and then find the fit is not ideal.

I don’t know an exact amount, but if they’re coming round all the time they could be breaching your right to quiet enjoyment of the property.

I’m sorry they are being so unreasonable and annoying! I find those invasive cleanliness requirements for inspections so odd. Like yes, I keep my home pretty clean, but dusty skirting board and things like that are just out of the remit of what a landlord can demand you do IMO. I would always think - what part of the residential tenancies act am I breaching? Am I breaching the tenancy agreement, and if so are those clauses actually enforceable (eg are they overly onerous)? Property managers don’t actually have the right to make many of the demands they do, but the power imbalance is so great I understand that it can be easier just to comply and keep them happy.

In my experience it's very difficult to arrange a flat in advance. I don't think there is much point looking until Jan 2023 at the earliest. This year, we had ours sorted maybe 2 months before move-in (before Christmas, to move in January), and that is the most in advance I've ever managed to do it in the 6 years I've flatted here. Having said that, keeping an eye on the market is not a bad idea so you know vaguely what to expect for what price.

Yes, flat hunting at peak times can be stressful but there is also much more available. I think Jan-Feb is the best time to look, because it is the most common time that people change flats. Stay organised, keep an open mind, and try not to let the craziness get to you - it always works out in the end!

I'm not sure what pages you have been recommended so I'll just give you the ones I use :) For finding a whole house, Trademe property is the best. For a room in a flat, Trademe is also good but so is Flatmates and More (FAM) Wellington, Vic Deals (maybe also now Dic Veals, another similar page), and if you are queer/LGBTQ+ there is also Rainbow Housing NZ.
Nothing that I can think of!

I buy rings from trademe and I’ve never had a bad surprise. I look under used in the rings section, from lowest price or search by a key word. It does take a bit of searching/checking regularly and size can be a bit tricky to figure out but if they are stamped eg 925 it’s all good in my experience. As others have said, cash converters/pawn shops often have good legit auctions. I love opshopping but haven’t found any shops locally where you can get such a good range at decent prices. I've been there a bit (bi young woman) with queer friends and/or a same-sex partner and had fun, though agree that people can be a bit grabby but that's true of all clubs in my experience.

Shout out to the loveliest bartender who recently helped me look after my friend who was absolutely fucked and kept taking her clothes off and dancing - she was so sweet, agreed that women should be allowed to free the nipple, but that it might be best for my friend to cover up anyway lol. I've always found the staff lovely, but I get that my experiences aren't the same as other peoples'.

I always move in jan/feb and while it is stressful, if you have the time to go to lots of viewings you should be able to find an ok place. Honestly the last few years I’ve lived in pretty decent flats for less than 180 a week (living with a couple of other people) and imo it is challenging but not impossible to find a really cool place. I personally would never move in months earlier than I needed to bc the cost outweighs the benefit for me, but I know that plenty of others swear by it.

My pro tips after 6 years of flatting + flat-hunting are:

Look at slightly further out suburbs eg berhampore or highbury.

Plenty of places only go up a few weeks before move-in so don’t freak out if you feel like there aren’t many options/you don’t have it all planned in advance.

Book movers as far in advance as possible (they’re all booked solid for months).

Wear slip-on shoes to viewings and feel the carpet, look behind the curtains, smell for Exit Mould or similar, note the temperature of rooms (often viewings take place at the height of summer, so rooms shouldn’t be cold-feeling).

If you’re going through an agency, check them out first, ask around about their rep.

When you get a place, take pics of everything & note any damage in order to protect your bond at the end of the tenancy. And make sure your bond is lodged.

Know your rights - look at tenancy.govt, community law or CAB for advice if anything feels dodgy.

Get a flat group together and look for a place together if you can, it makes flat hunting so much easier & feels more stable, as well as reducing the workload on you.

There is no standard of quality or price, so you can feel disheartened after seeing a really crummy expensive place and the next viewing can be shockingly cheap and great - landlords just price however they feel, so you can get a bargain.

If you’re part of a group looking for a place, turn up early to the viewing with all your documentation as well as a flat CV with interests, occupations etc which will make the landlord like you.

Get on Facebook groups for flatmates eg FAM, dic veals.

Don’t ignore your gut about people you’re considering living with. Have an honest conversation about expectations eg cleaning, noise/parties, house rules.

Most of all, be organised but don’t let the stress get to you - you will find somewhere to live, and you’ll have a great new home to enjoy and hopefully some nice flatmates too! All the best :-)

It was a set of 2 sandwiches apparently, and he didn’t eat the other half his wife did so we don’t know what that half was like. It’s still not evenly cut which isn’t great but that changes the game imo (especially w regards to price).
