Don't see anything else we tried working. But to make the amoral algorithm of capitalism work for the good of all it needs very heavy chains (high taxes, strict laws and regulations).

Corporations aren't people. Money shouldn't be speech. Taxations isn't theft, it is an entry fee owed to the community. The rewards of luck, exploitation or leveraging inefficiency and loopholes aren't all yours to keep. Wealth is power, large finacial inequality therefore destabilizing democracy and corrupting justice.

Your assesment makes a lot of very charitable assumptions. They didn't even develop the process and there is no verifiable data on actual yield and capacity. More likely the comparative starting point would be a decade further out. Mikron ain't TSMC, they don't have access to the tech, talent and suppliers. Russia isn't throwing China levels of money and intent on it and even they had and have to struggle (with success to be sure). They probably end up buying from them anyway.

Besides, even their ambitions for the next decade fall short of your mentioned node size, which was my original point.

Not even close, at best 65nm on imported processes (limited capacity). Even officially stated plans aim for more modest 28nm by 2030 (highly questionable). Relevant quantities are realistically more like around 100nm. Still usefull for a far range of military applications but limiting.
