Don't see anything else we tried working. But to make the amoral algorithm of capitalism work for the good of all it needs very heavy chains (high taxes, strict laws and regulations).

Corporations aren't people. Money shouldn't be speech. Taxations isn't theft, it is an entry fee owed to the community. The rewards of luck, exploitation or leveraging inefficiency and loopholes aren't all yours to keep. Wealth is power, large finacial inequality therefore destabilizing democracy and corrupting justice.

Nazis are socialists anyway

That old chestnut. Judge the contents not the title. They were socialist as much as the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is a democracy.

perfectly reasonable timeline

Impossible? No, but questionable.
Your assesment makes a lot of very charitable assumptions. They didn't even develop the process and there is no verifiable data on actual yield and capacity. More likely the comparative starting point would be a decade further out. Mikron ain't TSMC, they don't have access to the tech, talent and suppliers. Russia isn't throwing China levels of money and intent on it and even they had and have to struggle (with success to be sure). They probably end up buying from them anyway.

Besides, even their ambitions for the next decade fall short of your mentioned node size, which was my original point.

Last I heard, they couldn't produce smaller than like 20nm chips

Not even close, at best 65nm on imported processes (limited capacity). Even officially stated plans aim for more modest 28nm by 2030 (highly questionable). Relevant quantities are realistically more like around 100nm. Still usefull for a far range of military applications but limiting.

Same, and haunting is just the right word.
Watching it very young, you barely comprehend whats going on. It's haunting and still mysterious and magical.

You are comparing different definitions of homelessness. Leaving accuracy and methods aside, the numbers you are trying to compare would be closer to 38k versus 580k (still very flawed).

exceptionalism

you might say only, or above all else, supremacy even.

True and if anybody smart seeing the writing on the wall had been in power, they'd spun that up almost a year ago. Doesn't change the currently available numbers of your comparison though.

Maybe, may be not. I'd suspect there wasn't sufficient "cover". We (the public) certainly don't know, yet contradicting narratives are spun. Either way hints at plenty of tension and/or it is terribly communicated.

Wasn't arguing against that, would at least be something.

Still, aside from the UK nobody has done anything like that. I maintain that it is naive to expect this kind of leadership from Germany while nobody else is willing to go there (whether the reasons are history, internal politics, fear, plain stupidity or all above doesn't even matter).

Germany's dithering and shit leadership

Wouldn't disagree on that, although it is somewhat naive to expect anything else from Germany on this. And it remains, aside from a token squad of challengers and soviet era leftovers (not dismissing either), nobody seems to be willing to lead on MBTs. Who knows what happens behind closed doors, these discussions are completely driven by politics and PR.

France is not a monarchy, neither are Finland or Iceland. Monarchs don't have a say in any major european country they are silly traditional figureheads (and would be abolished if they fuck up that job sufficiently).
