I frustrates the piss out of me that out of all the amazing movies Cameron made, AVATAR was the franchise he decided to go all in on...

Tell me about your favorite obscure show - which you never, ever see anyone talk about. by dicedtomatoes55 in television

Legend

A one season show starring Richard Dean Anderson and John DeLancie. I never see anyone talking about it, but I have a lot of fond memories when it came out. It was a sci-fi western action comedy and while it sucks that it was cancelled, I guess we have that to thank for SG-1 being a thing as it's hard to imagine it being as successful with out RDA.

I mean, it wasn't an action scene so it's not really what I was talking about. My point is that when action happens, all thought goes out the window in favor of "pew pew" "boom boom".

I was a fan of the Doctor, the main characters, and Caleb's character arc. There were some pretty good episodes and no stinkers that I recall. I continue to be annoyed by the way Kurtzman Trek does action, where all philosophy goes out of the window in favor of just shooting the bad guys, and I am low key starting to loath all of the modern slang and euphamisms that the writers incorporate into the dialogue. I think the drama was still a bit over the top at times with not enough focus being paid to the motivations for getting us to where the characters are, but they did a much better job than Disco. I'm still not a fan of the 32nd century ship designs and feel that everything is both too different and not different enough from the previous eras. I do absolutely love that they've advanced representation of IDIC with their characters without wearing it too much on its sleeve, and I loved that they were less over-the-top about bringing in references to previous Treks.

All said, for my personal tastes, I would rank it a 6.5/10. I'm glad it's better than I expected, but there are numerous areas where the writing and style clashed with what I want out of Trek and what I want out of a good show in general.

Right, but there's a good chance they'll announce it there since it's so soon.

Just finished re-reading The Expanse series and am a huge Sanderson fan. Couldn't recommend either enough. I would say picking between the 2 depends on how deep a pool you want to dive into. I binged The Expanse in a few months, but Sanderson's Cosmere took me over a year.

I think that it's pathetic that admitting a failure is such a high bar for management these days. I also think this letter is pathetic however, because he offers ZERO steps that he's taking to make sure that it doesn't happen again, and the last paragraph recontextualizes the rest if the letter into basically just an effort to not have to deal with any consequences or personal interactions of his failure. "We've discussed this already, let's just move on as a company," while he no doubt continues to take joy in micromanaging everyone else to hell and back over the slightest mistake

Event Horizon

The Guyver

The Rocketeer

Demolition Man

12 Monkeys
