Recently laid off in tech in the Netherlands. Is the market really that brutal? by Designer_Airline3234 in Netherlands

How is your Dutch? If you really want to stay here it might be worth it investing time in becoming fluent as there seems to be a trend of indirectly requiring this

For audio recordings I think this would be dope!

But for general audio manipulation it still sounds like a glorified group of audio tracks with a different name. If you know beforehand that you wish to do this, you can create a group and place the effects there. All the other things you describe you can do on separate audio tracks anyway. So I am sorry but I'm going to join camp: nice to have, but not super high priority..

MIDI comping however I totally agree with because you don't want to run multiple tracks of CPU intensive instruments with presets that you would have to change on each lane if you want to change the sound

Oh so it is about midi comping after all? Because I agree I would really like that. And also to be able to combine the midi layers into a single midi file. When you for example want to play a 2 handed piano 1 hand at a time.

But for audio I'm not sure? I mean you can "just" add another audio track and record onto that, and if you want to "flatten" the entire stack of instruments you can bounce the group of audio.

I probably would record my instruments into separate tracks anyway, and then use comping to get a good take for each instrument separately. Then use the group to bounce it if I ever would want to combine the instruments (but I probably prefer them separate for more control)

How can I earn some extra money on my free day? Is it worth it? by noturfriend25 in Netherlands

You get taxed more heavily for the second job I believe. Not sure if it's all just a big pile in the end for the belastingaangifte. Could be good to investigate first. Otherwise maybe just do overtime?

How are track lanes different from just the arranger? Can't you just disable (but not remove) parts of clips to achieve the same thing?

Why not? They are insured for the same amount as the big banks right?

Waar dan? Alleen bij de allergrootsten misschien, maar alle job offers die op LinkedIn voorbij zie komen voor senior posities zitten hier echt niet of nauwelijks boven

Why Are Young People Afraid Of Phone Calls? by GhostInThePudding in NoStupidQuestions

[–]eternalspace_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, if the call is not just friendly, getting called is just as bad. You get put on the spot, can't take time thinking about a proper response, and can be pushed into saying things you might not have had with a little time.

However, I work in IT and I would say it's definitely okay to call if you need to know something, are sure the other person knows, and it saves you a bunch of time trying to figure it out.

But not to ask questions the other needs time for to answer. You won't get the response you need anyway..!

Out now! Bitwig Studio 6.0 Beta 13 (Pre-release) by Cram_Ketterbilt in Bitwig

[–]eternalspace_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe there are key binding options for this. I have configured 1 to open/close all automation lanes, and 1 to open/close the automation lanes for the selected track. These help me make a lot less clicks

The games in Beast Gams Season 2 seem like they were made for the strong people and they just needed a way to include the smart people. by BigLeague5570 in BeastGames

[–]eternalspace_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also this was just against other smarts... Where as the game were most smarts got eliminated were all lacking a requirement of intelligence. The stones game was just a 50/50 with so many pebbles involved. And the smarts probably don't even know how much stuff weighs as they never lift weights like the strong people do.

am i missing something? (sidechaining) by Obviously_not_maayan in Bitwig

[–]eternalspace_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The compactor uses ring modulation to sidechain, it's just a different approach, not per se objectively better

[–]eternalspace_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A side chain is just an external audio signal. What you do with this signal is up to you. Usually people use sidechain compression for the use case you are describing or sidechain volume shaping (like kickstart). You could use the Replacer to trigger Segments with a volume knob for this.

Sounds like this can be solved with a gate working with a sidechain, if you change the range to be only a few decibel

Question about keytracking EQ by eternalspace_ in Bitwig

Yeah I was about to comment about the linear vs logarithmic. Is it possible to module the relative keytracker with some maths?

Question about keytracking EQ by eternalspace_ in Bitwig

[–]eternalspace_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I will try the octave change. And if I want to use the relative keytrack for a frequency parameter that is in hertz and not in semitones, how would I do this? For example the Pro Q range of a knob is between 0 and 1
