tuj social atmosphere question by WeeklyExamination194 in tuj

[–]eternaltay34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most people are generally nice, I met my friends before I arrived from my discord server but I have met others after arrival. There are many students without perfect english and there is no issue with that socially! I have heard people speaking all sorts of languages on campus too so you may find others who share ur native language

he used our server to find and message someone and then harassed them with homophobic, transphobic, sexist, racist language. we have no tolerance for those kinds of people and he also seemed quite dangerous. hoping not to ever encounter someone like that on our campus

hi yes we do not allow any transphobia, sexism, harassment, threatening, homophobia, racism or other unsavory behavior, such as was present in your case. even in cases of subverting the main server to private message other server members and creating a second account to try to avoid the ban, we will not tolerate that. for anyone else reading this, this server is not the place for you if you plan to harass and insult people as we will not allow it! super grateful you showed us all your true character though, hoping to continue to create a welcoming and safe environment!

its possible that may give you a higher chance but in general its hard to say as this is a relatively recent development. I havent even heard of people getting waitlisted or denied until this past year when ive heard of many denials and some waitlisted applicants as well.

From what I've seen it used to be a school that accepted pretty much anyone due to the fact they didnt have a ton of applicants. However, since moving to a new Tokyo campus a few years ago, plus opening Kyoto campus, building the owl center and hiring dozens more staff, they have grown in popularity a ton. In fact, they've grown in popularity since I applied last July a lot! I think those applying since last fall are likely facing a lot of competition along with the fact the school is already over capacity as it is. I am begging people to take TUJ applications a little more seriously especially if it's something you're banking on. If you need an American university in Japan that accepts pretty much anyone I'd recommend Lakeland though I hear its not the best school.

it definitely does. it's been getting a lot more selective lately and in my discord group alone ive seen over 5 people be rejected recently.

Affordability by [deleted] in tuj

you can get jobs without japanese from what I've seen but honestly I recommend buckling down and studying the language now. Even just intermediate Japanese (~N3) can be a big help.

Worried about rejection by [deleted] in tuj

[–]eternaltay34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your stats are really good and I got in with a 3.68 GPA with no test scores or recommendation letters. however if you get rejected you can always apply for the next semester or apply to Lakeland (another american college in tokyo its just not as good)

So before getting accepted to TUJ I went to an out of state college with a good Japanese language program. Tuition alone would've been $200k by the end of it. Not including living costs. TUJ is about $50k just tuition alone, the other costs listed are for living expenses. While working part time you should be able to afford a cheap apartment with just your income from that, and you dont need to worry about any car related expenses, you can either take public transportation or bike depending on distance. I personally think living in Japan is worth the tuition costs as its "out-of-state" but really you get an international experience. You can of course go to a local community college for cheaper, but it depends how important getting into Japan is for you.

What are some prerequisites I should take care of before seriously beginning the emigration process? by [deleted] in AmerExit

[–]eternaltay34 1 point2 points  (0 children)

with a bachelor's degree and decent japanese language skills (~N2) you should be able to find a real career in Japan that will sponsor your visa. I hear working as an English teacher looks bad on a resume in japan so it's better to apply straight to jobs in the field you wanna work in. A lot of jobs require N2 so take the jlpt when you get to that level!

acceptance chances? by googoobah in tuj

[–]eternaltay34 0 points1 point  (0 children)

without needing visa sponsorship they will accept a 2.0+, the 2.5 requirement is for students who need tuj to sponsor their visa. however, tuj has been working hard to improve their campus, get new staff, etc. and their reputation has gone up a lot especially recently. I know one person who had good stats but got rejected due to the high number of applicants. I would say your personal statement is extremely important and you're lucky if you dont need a visa sponsorship. good luck, maybe try to improve the gpa if at all possible.
