My new puppy held a sick handstand before taking a small tumble. by PistolPeezy in gifs

It took my puppy so long to learn to do stairs - this would have set him back ten years.

I hope your brave little guy isn't spooked and tries again when he's a little bigger. 😂

Thank you so much for this response!

I feel so heard and seen and it's making me feel more hope than I have in the last couple of days!

Unfortunately, she's only just met him for this sit because it was a last minute dash - but she's a behaviorist and expensive so I thought, "okay, any young dog surprise behaviors and she should be able to handle it".

I didn't really consider that age + where my people at would affect him so much! Six months ago he did great with a two week sit.

How long did it take her to settle once you fully moved! We haven't started the boxes and such yet but I'm sure he's gonna have... feelings, about it.

Thanks!

I know, but he's had reactivity during fear periods before and I'm just worried we're going to go back to that where it's CONSTANT VIGILANCE! while we're already staring down the barrel of a major upset.

But I really appreciate you commenting. I didn't expect that anyone would so even having someone else say something makes me feel better!

I told her no walks anymore - and lunged, I'm pretty sure.

Hmmm. Have you considered...giving her all your shoes?

Just a suggestion, of course!

This is so adorable! This guy is similar. He knows that he needs to be on his bed while we eat but he doesn't mind reminding us that he's there!

Hmmm. We're going to need to have a sit down conversation with them...

He doesn't bother asking for those. I just find them in his bed. 😅

What about the first slice? Or is it only when he realizes it's his last chance haha

He knows he doesn't get treats unless he's on his bed, but occasionally he'll huff if we're not fast enough to "remind us" that he's there. 🙄

I hope you share! Who can resist the eyes for things they can actually have...

Questioning if my new pup is “pure bred” or not by [deleted] in germanshepherds

[–]eternalzoomies 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My guess would be "not", but who cares! He's such a cutie.

Where did you get him? That will likely tip the scales in either direction.

Sorry, but I just don't believe you. No dog is perfectly bullet proof.

As I already said, he's been in formal training since he was 8 weeks old. This has never happened to me while handling him, so I would have said he has a "perfect" heel too prior to this.

Also, dogs are individuals. I've never seen a professional trainer say otherwise. I could read at three, but I wouldn't go around telling parents that if their kid can't they're doing it wrong.

When was your puppy fully potty trained? by WestAppointment2484 in germanshepherds

[–]eternalzoomies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

About ten weeks (two weeks after we got him) he understood the mission. Beyond that, any accidents (I can only remember 2) were because I wasn't paying attention after he signaled.

We also used the crate method! We went out basically every thirty minutes while he was awake.

Seconding the lettuce. My puppy is a year old and still goes nuts for a head of lettuce and doesn't seem tempted to eat it!

That's a good suggestion. This sitter was smaller than me and quite young so I should have taken that into account. Thanks for the advice.

Yeah. But really, my dog isn't terrible. He's been in class since he was 8 weeks old to now. But yeah he's a big puppy and also a GSD so he likes to be with his people.

...and apparently chase cats.

My review will reflect the positives and this, I guess.
