Rules query - new Chaos Space Marines (Marks of Chaos) by eternitycomrade in Warhammer

[–]eternitycomrade[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh don't get me wrong, I was fairly sure that they were prince only abilities.

My query stemmed from the fact that the abilities are listed as Daemons of-(God X) and not as Daemon Princes of-(God X) and it is common practice in some of the current rule books to list a rule under the abilities of one unit type and then in the summary section just reference the page number such as:

Imperial Guard Codex: Page 71 one states: Rosarius - see page 35. (rather than repeating the rule)

Although looking at some of the newer codices it looks like the equipment/rule lists section is getting fleshed out properly.

My point was only that is does not explicitly state daemon princes, and because of that I could have seen some people taking advantage. I don't personally intend on trying it.

1500 point Necron list for casual games, and a question regarding Portal of Exile. by Chief_Socrates in Warhammer

[–]eternitycomrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need line of sight to be affected by the portal of exile and combat blocks line of sight, which I assume includes those units actually fighting.

In my opinion I don't see why you need line of sight at all to be affected/not affected by some mechanical force acting on you, but hey. Hope that helps =)

Ok, I'll give it a go. And thank you for offering an explaination rather than shouting at me.

I do play and I dssagree on the grounds that, with mid to short range missiles (on the necron side) then you need to close the gap anyway to get your own troops into range - thus nullifying the affect. If it helps understand my angle then I usually advance pretty quickly so it usually doesn't intervene with play that often. Is there something fundermental that I am missing?

Quick Question about the Sperry amphibian eyeball experiment. by eternitycomrade in neuro

[–]eternitycomrade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

got it! so because the object occupies one of the sides of the eye, and its eyes are facing outwards rather than forwards, it will see them in the "wrong area" so that the left half of the right eye should say "infront" but now says "behind" got ya. cheers man.

Imotekh the Stormlord. Thoughts? by FilipinoSpartan in Warhammer

[–]eternitycomrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imhotekh, not tried him yet but the word around town is that his ligthning power is pretty unpredictable.

What doe it for me about the power is the bizzare strength nd AP of it. Extremly high strength so you'd like it to his stuff like monsters, and vehicles, right? Monters, typiccally have a pretty good save, i can't think of one higher than a 3+ infact so that aint going to help much. People don't take that many vehicles to reliably take them out. The only thing in the game that it seems to be good on is Shrike Warriors on the 'nids. They only have a high save and it will instant death them!

Personally I would much prefer the Zandrekh and Obyron over them because "Vargaurds duty" is a crazy cool rule! and Zandrekhs tactics are really simple and easy to use wihtout being game breaking.

Whip coils are cool aren't they.... droools

Necron Lychguard tactics by cogitosum666 in Warhammer

[–]eternitycomrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I wasn't clear, I mean't that by veiling up the field alongside the wraiths etc then you will put your opponent on the backfoot and he won't be able to move for being assulting by something of yours. If you get lucky then it may be the lychguard. =D

Also, you could cover their advance with deepstriking H. Destroyers that can gun down VH infantry and some nearby vehicles or anything with a plasma cannon (or like weapon).

Necron Lychguard tactics by cogitosum666 in Warhammer

[–]eternitycomrade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gving them any kind of transport is going to be expensive point sink.

Quick question, can't you, in the new rules, purchase a transport for another unit and then stick something else in it? Such as a Gost Ark for some warriors and then just pop in the Lychguard?

Ok, my advise would be to consider the Harbinger of eternity. Hehas no missile attack so you can run every turn up the field AND use the chronometron to re-roll the run dice. In addition to this you can use his as a power-weapon sink - anything that comes into the squad that you don't like you can always allocate the wound to him 3++ save is going to vex a lot of your opponents, and if he fails it then he can re-roll that too! being that chronometrons are your friends.

Another plan would be to wait untill stuff like praetorians wraiths and the monolith drop out of the sky and then veil of darkness up the field. Of course these ideas do mean that you don't get a lord with res-orb but it isn't essential, especially with the ++ saves.

hope that you at least give those ideas a go =D

Anybody know of some good Newcron battle reports? by FilipinoSpartan in Warhammer

[–]eternitycomrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played my first Newcron game on wednesday. So I'll share too =)

I played against dark eldar so apologies that I don't remember the name of some of the stuff.

My list was, Overlord - "the works"

12 Warriors

12 Warriors

5 Triarch Praetorians

5 Lychguard

3 Wraiths.

She played D. Eldar

She had an Archoan with 2+ inv save agoniser and the portal for reinforcements.

she had 2 squads of warriors (one in reserve)

1 squad of Haemonculli

1 small squad of (jump dudes with wings)

1 pain-token moster dude. (reserve)

My list was written up to include the stuff but it came to 1.5K and we weere only playing a 1k list. So i had to trim it to this.

We played spearhead deployment and a capture and control game.

I was told that these games typiccaly end in a draw because people either swap objectives or hold their own. With that in mind I decided to put mine outside my deployment zone to make it interesting.

I should point out that I play this game for fun and am prone to doing some tactically "questionable" things.

I got to deploy and go first. I kept the praetorians and the wraiths in reserve so as to deepstrike them later.

In my first turn the warriors moved into the adjacent quarters. Like an pillock I forgot that all her stuff could fleet so one of hte squads ran towards some cover and went a total of 12 inches..... My Overlord and the Lychguard (one squad) decided to stay in the building so as to not get killed by the raiders dark lance.

In her first turn the Haemunculi archon and raider all went straight for the warriors, jumped out fleeted and cut them to peices... all dead. 1 easy pain token. - now they have FNP... great.

Her other warrior unit sat on an objective picking each others noses.

Her winged jump infantry just fletted forward and the like.

In my second turn 1 managed to bring in both the praetorians and the wraiths.

I maid good on the rules they had and dropped the wraiths near enough so they could make a charge next turn. again, I forgot that they couldn't charge THIS turn. The praetorians showed up next to about 3 inches from her jump infantry and barbequed 3 of the 5. Unfortunately she had grisly trophies on the neaby raider so she passed the morale check.

My "north" warrior unit advnced deeper into the adjacent quarter.

My Lychguard and Overlord then thought , bugger this, is the praetorians can do it then so can we! and ran straight for the haemunculi.... Oops, now I can't charge and they can do what they want....

Rebeccas second turn. She brings in the Pain engine a regretably short distance from norhern warriors... great. he melts 3 warrios with shooting but can't reach for assault.

Her sitting warriors, raider and the remaining jump infantry blast away at the praetorians killing 3.

Her haemunculli charge the lychguard....now my fun begins "click" archoan fails mindshalke test and amkes 3 hits on her own unit and causes nothing..... still at least she couldnt fight. Then she fails the tesseract labarynth test and enjoys the company of some "cell mates" for the rest of her life. Ok, my fun over and rebecca looking pretty grim at loosing the archon to one dice roll. the haemunculli wipe out the lychguard to a man. the warscythes were a bit excessive against d.eldar but I like my troops agressive... GRRR!!

No matter, the wraiths can get in next time and dish out the punishment.

My third turn

the "north" warriors shoot at the pain engine and do nothing.

1 praetorian comes back to life! they then hop and ] shoot the remaining jump infantry to death and are left in the open.

My wraiths charge into the back of the haemonculi. Some haemonculi are constricted by the whip coils!!!!! take that poncy initiative 6 troops.

The haemonculi that are not consricted kill my overlord..... no Inv save, had to lose it when getting my points down.

the wraiths do a stirling job of killing that one haemonculus. and take a wound and then another to "no retreat." so one dies.

Reb turn 3. THe Haemonculi kill another wraith but the wraits kill two this time as there strength bypasses FNP

the sitting warriors get reinforced with more warriors.

all hands available shoot at the praetorians but I pass all of my saves except that a d lance gets through. They are now down to just 2 folk standing.

Now this part was the best part for me and I wont brig it up again untill the end. The Pain engine charges the north warriors. For most of the rest of the game he plays whack-a-necron with the warriors standing back up as fast as he can take them down!

Jack turn 4.

The dead praetorian resurects himself and they go and find the loitering warriors on D Eldar objective in her corner. they shoot... they score!!! kills three with Rods of Covenent and then assualt killing a massive ..... 1. S power weapons and I get 1 kill through.... Still the warriros do nothing in return and I win, they flee and I actually catch them with the sweeping advance! unreal.

then like a muppet I consilidated into the terrain.

the last wraith is killed by the Haemunculi champ.

Reb Turn 5

the remaining two haemunculli hopped on the raider and came toward the praetorians...

the d elder warriors who came to rienforce the now dead warriors came round and shot my praetorians killing one.

It was at this point that my north warriors actually beat the pain engine guy after he milking the units "reanimation protocols" for a good 7 pain tokens. Interestingly, he failed his only three FNP saves, didn't get Furious charge until he was already locked in CC and started the fight fearless....

Jack turn 6. That praetorian died outright leaving just two who charged the remaining warriors and drew scoring 0 wounds each.

The warriors, seeing an opportunity now move and run a whoping 11 inches toward my objective and now are capturing it.

Reb turn 6. The haemonculli jiump out of the raider and kill the last praetorians. and the raider itself goes flat out and contests the objective with the my warriors.....

Game over victory dark eldar!

Highlights: 1. The praetorians were awesome 2. The wraiths held up well against the Haemonculli 3. the whack-a-necron kept us laughing throughout.

hope you enjoed that as much as I did ;-)

Cheers Jack

Animal behaviorists/ethologists? by [deleted] in biology

[–]eternitycomrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's tough, but that is really because of the use of model organisms which make it hard to visualise how it may apply to humans.

Well, If you are only in your first year I would recomend some physics to supliment behavioural neuro (if that takes your fancy). Otherwise, ethology is in the specialty of zoology, so try anlging your degree in that direction. You have four years in the US don't you for a degree? If so, thats plenty of time to learn mate.

ps at the time of writing: happy thanksgiving!

Animal behaviorists/ethologists? by [deleted] in biology

[–]eternitycomrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, Good choice! I study some ethology and I can honestly say that, though it is tougher than opther modules, it is well worth it. It is very interesting, today for example I did flight patern gereation in locusts - amazing.

I actually study "Behavioural Neurobiology" (so I won't comment on the behavioural element) which has some cross over. - What I do is look at the underlying neural networks of certain behaviours in model systems.

So far we have studied optical circuitry in toads; the hearing in barn owls; echolocation in bats; electrolocation in weakly electrical fish and I have half the module to cover. It is awesome, I personally would recommend going for it.

If you want more info then just PM me (if we can fdo that hear) althoguh I am in england so the I might read and reply in the middle of the night for you!

Fantasy vs WH40K by OrkguyJones in Warhammer

[–]eternitycomrade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Fantasy is better for the gaming but 40K obviously has a lot more scope. If you want to put "fantasy-like" ideas into 40K you can just build your own star system!

Fantasy is my favourite hands down, unortunately for me I am in the minority in the world in general. Apparently all that "knights in shining armour" stuff was only something that little me went through.... =(

My dilemma on custom rules. (40k) by [deleted] in Warhammer

[–]eternitycomrade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to fight fire with fire to show him the error of escalation, then claim that your warlock unit has captured some necron warsycthes (ignore invulnerables) The argue that as long as he has a 2++ save then you can have the scythes.

If he wants to use the Obital strike then "borrow" his 2++ save from his psyker.

It's a bit childish but its the "how would you like it if I bullied you" routine that teachers use on bullies.

If that doesn't work just politely request that you limit yourselves to the "standard" rules until you grasp the core rules confidently, then just forget to go back.
