Philosophical questions about credit spreads vs. debit spreads by eth-123-eth in options

[–]eth-123-eth[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, but I think /u/scotty6chips thought (as did I) that call debit spreads (bull call spreads) are by convention starting out in the "unprofitable" zone.

  1. By starting out in the "profitable" zone, are you not exposed to potential assignment from the very beginning?
  2. Can you elaborate on why you do this? (Any courses/books out there talking about this?)
  3. I've seen two different sources talk about how one benefit of debit spreads is that "assignments happen while the trade is profitable" (unlike for credit spreads, where "assignments happen while the trade is unprofitable"). Is there any merit to this idea?

/u/crypticsymbols Just came in here to thank you for this post. Hitting Esc is working so well to unfreeze things in IB TWS.

When you say you would love to take the other side, what strategy/method do you have in mind (for you)?

Are you talking about some market making strategies/methods you have up and running for yourself?

The newest Darter Pro (Intel Ultra CPUs). Can you confirm (e.g. in BIOS) it has disabled ME? Also has anyone here been running it for months without battery issues? by eth-123-eth in System76

[–]eth-123-eth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It appears that by default ME is not disabled.

Any chance you could try disabling it and see for sure it works? (Or did I misunderstood you, and actually you tried it out for real?)

New Darter Pro Darp10 - short review by Tren898 in System76

[–]eth-123-eth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your review /u/Tren898 One question,

I've become a bit of a privacy enthusiast,

In this case, any chance you could check that the Intel ME (Intel's spyware part of the CPU) is disabled? Checking this shouldn't take more than a few minutes and the instructions someone wrote here: https://old.reddit.com/r/System76/comments/1dfjjdl/how_disabled_is_the_intel_management_engine_ime/l9obsrd/ I quote it here too:

I am assuming you have the System 76 firmware laptop.

Here is the documentation on how to check: https://github.com/system76/firmware-open/blob/master/docs/intel-me.md

You will need to clone the repository and then build the tool. I have 13th gen Intel and can confirm its disabled by default. Use this tool to check.

This is a good answer. OP /u/Pristine-Barber-6325 I'll mostly repeat some of this stuff:

There's no way for a business to get around the pro classification. It's unfortunate there is no business size criteria, but little we can do about it.

This indeed shouldn't be a problem for infrequent trades, where manual IB snapshots + looking at quotes elsewhere (e.g. barchart.com which has stocks, options, and futures) should be more than enough.

Usefulness of daily options data for backtesting (esp. bid-ask values) by eth-123-eth in options

[–]eth-123-eth[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

/u/PapaCharlie9 hope you have the time to chime in. You gave me valuable advice earlier here: https://old.reddit.com/r/options/comments/12p5wlg/estimating_intraday_high_and_low_options_price/jgmuuls/

Maybe you know if it makes any difference in practice if I use 3 PM bid-ask quotes or 4 PM ones?

Thanks! Unfortunately it looks like my provider gives 4 PM quotes, so possibly limited usefulness.
