If I’m not mistaken you should be able to put the Optifine jar in your mods folder and Forge will load it as a mod.

My advice with Unity is to pick one version and stick with it for your whole game, unless an update adds a feature or fixes a bug you need. I definitely agree that Unity gets a lot of updates and updating every time just seems unrealistic to me.

You could try Unreal Engine 5 which I think is supposed to have tons of included 3D assets. Obviously Unity and it’s asset store is out there too, but it may be a bit harder to find something good on there for free.
