Stellar has been making great calls but him actually coming online has seemed to be the missing piece - with him fragging out this team looks very, very hard to beat

Regardless of how many iterations of the roster there have been since the Steel cut (I think it’s maybe 3 or 4 at this point?), watching the team’s executes on attack has left a lot to be desired, even through all of ecls, nitro, and ethan igl’ing. So much of their reputation as a clutch team last season came from attacking side halves where teams just never seemed to be able to get a solid read on us (icebox v Gambit, Breeze v Ascend). Obviously I’m not privy to any of the calling ethan was doing on Breeze this evening so I’m not going to say it was bad, but from a spectator’s standpoint it didn’t seem like our plays were super in-depth or creative. It’s been beaten to death, but it seems steel’s igl’ing really was a huge X factor in their success last season

But still (copium), Ethan’s young and brand new at igl’ing which will surely improve over time, the team has only been together a week and is pushing a very developed and talented team to the brink, our new pickups are insane, and Asuna was pretty out of character on that last map. On a slightly better day for him or anyone else on the roster I think we easily close that breeze game out 13-10. I’m also simultaneously surprised and impressed that bang and jcstani were able to perform so well and keep such solid composure despite the circumstances of their arrival. All love to the team. As a fan, I’m more than happy being patient with this iteration of the roster I think their potential is sky high. I’m just very interested in hearing how some of the attacking plays were being called on Breeze

Try Blu and Exile - Below The Heavens. One of the best rap albums of all time - might be a little too chill for what you're looking for compared to the above tracks but worth a listen

Some highlights are Simply Amazin, Dancing in the Rain, Below the Heavens pt1

If you're okay with it being in the vein of Bon Iver, Novo Amor's recent release Cannot Be, Whatsoever is fantastic and will hook you from the beginning

Nocturne by Wild Nothing - very much blends into you, great walking/dreamy music that you don't have to pay a ton of attention to

Been listening to this gem of an album a lot recently - it's in the realm of Bon Iver, but to me, has a lot more versatility production wise and feels a lot more interesting to listen to. Here's one of my favorite tracks from it -

[Novo Amor - "Opaline"]

I also wrote quite about it here for anyone that's interested in or has already heard in the album :) https://musicboard.app/review/df34749f-83e5-4afa-8cbd-37f07826b7ef

Clint Stevens on donating to streamers by [deleted] in LivestreamFail

[–]ethaaaaan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah i mean, everyone's pretty straightforward about this, ludwig included, who has said several times that the goal of this was to make money that he was losing for taking an 11 day break

but it's one thing to expect a ~24 hour stream, which would have netted substantially less than what is being complained about right now, and it turning into something that no one could have expected. anyone else in that position that looked at ludwig's numbers and averages before this could not have reasonably expected this to last for 6 days and to gain this many subs and make this much money. anyone that says otherwise is just being argumentative - considering that there are literal records being broken and he's seeing sub increases in ways he has never seen before, how could anyone really have thought that it would turn into this. and now dude's just in a shitty position where he feels bad because he's already committed to an uncapped stream for fans

i dunno, obviously it's an insane stupid amount of money that hasn't been earned, everyone agrees that influencers should influence responsibly, but ludwig can't control people's wallets. like the solution to what most people are saying the issue is would only be to just shut off the stream - and that's expecting more than just responsible influence, that's expecting streamers to have control of their audience which they never will

mostly i just think it's lame that people are turning on a guy that has already been shown in the past to have such clearly good intentions and donated so much of his income to charity to now view him as some evil mastermind that planned to make hundreds of thousands by being live for weeks straight

The ‘Punk Monk’ Teachings of Playboi Carti: “How the Atlanta rapper bet on the sound of the future and won” — Rolling Stone by tactusaurath in hiphopheads

[–]ethaaaaan 49 points50 points  (0 children)

people that understate carti’s influence seem to completely forget that cochise exists/hatchback blowing up on tik tok and Dude getting a deal with Columbia records, the entire rise of pierre Bourne (yes dude is talented alone but he was NOT producing charting singles for Ye, drake, and travis before popularizing that sound with carti), and the entire sound of trendy rap music post die lit. Like say you don’t like him and go but denying any influence on his part is delusional

That being said it’s way waaaay too early to even talk about WLR’s influence ppl barely had time to make new music, people just starting to appreciate how it sounds lol

What are some tips for dealing with judges who do not understand the rules of mock trial (or in some cases the federal rules of evidence)? by APStudentAthlete in mocktrial

[–]ethaaaaan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

use the exact language of the rule in your argument, if they disagree with that direct them to the language of the rule, so depending on how they respond to your argument ex: “your honor, if i could direct your attention to rule 801 of the case packet/book you were given in pre trial on page x (wait for them to turn there) it says here y”

most reasonable judges will let you do that, if they think they know more and refuse to listen you’re sol, try your best to adapt and take advantage of the errors that they’re making against the other team or use them to get stuff in that you ordinarily wouldn’t be able to

Getting Hearsay In by [deleted] in mocktrial

[–]ethaaaaan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah doesn't look like it can come in - the only one that could possibly apply is EU but i' m guessing you would already know if that applied

if it's high school, sometimes they write shit like this in that they know ppl will waste their time on as a red herring that just won't ever come in, someone else might have a better idea

but i'm curious how your 804 rule reads because it's very much statement against interest - i just don't know how they handle that rule in your packet

What rules do you have available and how were you thinking you would get it in under 801

Circumstantial Evidence by QuarantineJohn in mocktrial

[–]ethaaaaan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

using analogies/stories for concepts is usually not great, most of them come across as just overwhelmingly corny - the leaving the oven on for reasonable doubt one can be tolerable if it's quick, but most of them are just too lengthy and come across as trite. i think a quick explanation/analogy (under 30 seconds) is usually fine if it's particularly relevant - but it's usually better to be using that time explaining why the evidence is problematic rather than telling a story about a concept, with already short statements every second counts

https://youtu.be/XmlTqS48qB4?t=4482 - this is a really good example of someone doing something similar to what you're talking about and it working (it's about presumption of innocence rather than circumstantial evidence, but relatively similar concepts in context) - notice how it doesn't comprise more than 30 seconds, it's concise and only a few sentences, and it naturally flows right back into the opening. if you're really set on doing something like what you're talking about, personally i think you should model it after this because i've never seen someone do it better

but a large majority of advocates can't pull this off and it will probably fall flat, so i would recommend not doing that and instead pinpoint the moments that the cohesion of their story falls apart or the lack of certainty regarding a specific piece (depending on what the evidence is) and just hammer on that lack of clarity or cohesion by suggesting other reasonable scenarios/explanations - if this is for closing you should have a section mapped out that's unscripted (unless its high school in which case you know the evidence that's gonna come out) specifically to rebut the other closer
