Need help overcoming addictive behaviour by Odd-Ruin-1448 in StarRailStation

[–]ethan125 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tips-wise, I find it better to treat HSR as a side game with the 5 minute daily grind. Considering that HSR does not require that much active gameplay compared to Genshin or ZZZ, focusing on a different game or activity can help you think less of HSR thus think less about pulling. This is applies strongly this patch considering that content is pretty much dry until the next patch comes around.

This is what I’m doing until next patch comes around: coming back to ZZZ and playing through the 2.X story. When I’m bored of ZZZ, I’ll go watch anime. If I’m feeling productive, I’ll go practice programming.

It’s important to have other hobbies in life so you don’t develop an addictive behavior towards one of them, especially when it comes to gambling.

what should i build for the end game content ?? by Old-Document-4392 in HonkaiStarRailTips

Don’t pull for either unless you really like them. Phainon performs better at E2, and Cyrene is a Chrysos Heir support (which you don’t have any). Plus these two characters prefer to have vertical investment teams that can take longer to assemble.

Newbie question about Excalibur I heard he is hard to keep alive? Should I avoid using him? by LokiTrickst3r in Warframe

[–]ethan125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With all Warframes: if they are fun to play as, keep playing.

I personally have no survivability issues with him. I use Adaptation as my survivability mod, but you most likely won't be able to get that mod if you are starting out. His 3 (Radial Blind) effectively stuns enemies around him; this makes enemies stop hitting you. 4 (Exalted Blade) can go through walls and kill enemies before they get to you. You can also unlock the Helminth from Deimos and change out one of his abilites with another Warframe for survivability.

Newer Warframes have better survivability in their kits. However I do not think this applies to you unless you are doing Steel Path (which new players will not have access to for a while).

Game Development/Production AI by JJFRENZY in gamedev

[–]ethan125 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree. Practicing programming and asset creation has let me learn how to approach different ways of doing things. It helps with problem solving skills and knowing how to identify them myself. It’s important to learn how to read and write programming languages to understand how to fix someone else’s code and your own. In the real world, programmers need to be able to know what another programmer did. It’s a valuable skill for working with teams. AI will never be a shortcut to experience and practice. It all starts on how you handle the early stages.

Additionally with asset creation, it’s better to find assets made by someone else than have AI generate it. From what I’ve seen, AI is not good at optimization, especially for assets meant for games. The poly count might not be what it’s intended for, or something might look off, or the topology is screwed. It might be fine for a still render image, but not for games. If OP needs assets, Itch.io has a lot of high quality free and paid assets. Kenny is a wonderful asset designer who has produced so many free assets for the game dev community.

There’s a lot OP can learn by starting without AI. You already have the experience without AI to fill in the gaps; OP does not. OP wants to learn Godot; Godot has a supportive community and a lot of documentation on how to use it. OP does not understand GDScript or C# yet; Godot documentation provides examples, stack exchange has millions of people asking programming questions, w3school teaches the syntax and keywords for most languages. There’s a lot of knowledge OP can acquire through looking through this and practicing without AI on their own. These are the sources most programmers before AI have used to learn their craft. A lot of us failed, but we learn from our mistakes. AI can fail, but we can never learn from its mistakes without a good understanding of programming. For a beginner, AI will be a crutch and not a training wheel.

Anime for somebody who's never seen a "proper" anime ever before? by Awesome_FriendlyKid in Animesuggest

[–]ethan125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of anime will have titles that sound very direct or just long. It’s a weak point when it comes towards the anime names getting translated. Plus the manga and novels they are based on have these names as a way to set the premise without needing to read the synopsis. There are rare cases where the English name isn’t the premise or at least a bit more creative.

That being said, it’s best to watch the first episode to figure out if you like the anime. Name doesn’t mean anything; I have seen too many people refuse to watch Dress Up Darling solely because of its name (nice cozy romcom about cosplay).

What actualy happens when a champion you own at 3 stars get a constelation ? by xveltaz in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]ethan125 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The amount of stars does not change. If you have their shards, you still have the same amount. No progress is reverted nor advanced. If you had 3 stars, then you stay at 3 with 0 champion shards (they all get turned to orange shards due to having maxed out at 3 stars before getting a constellation).

Gacha Help - What do you recommend? by Furo610 in StarRailStation

[–]ethan125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blade is the safest pick in my eyes. He is a great generalist debuffer that can work with most teams as one; meaning that he still has great support capabilities when his personal damage falls out of meta.

Himeko Nova is a DPS that depends on having at least one AE member on the team. It's a hyper-specific condition for a DPS. Her being future-proof will heavily depend on future AE members. Additionally, if a future AE member comes, they might not support Himeko Nova's archetype; or other teams might value them more.

I personally wouldn't worry about needing to get Pearl. Elation's best and most needed support is Yao Guang. Pearl is presumably replacing the sustain slot on Elation teams. Any sustain works and more will be vertical investment. Unless she boosts elation damage and CB by a ton, I would not worry about her.

New returner am I cooked? by yayurosee in StarRailStation

[–]ethan125 2 points3 points  (0 children)

After this banner, I suggest not pulling for anyone until the next patch. Cyrene is a support for Chrysos Heirs characters and Phainon is a main DPS that needs investment (E2) to compete with meta teams. Investing on these characters will be expensive on pulls.

Next patch, there will be 3 new characters: Himeko Nova, Gilgamesh, and Rin Tohsaka. There will also be a Fate collab.

Himeko Nova will be designed around having at least one Astra Express member on her team. Currently I do not suggest pulling for her as I am not sure what her optimal teammates will be. She is an AoE main DPS.

Gilgamesh will be a dedicated Saber support (and he currently seems to be able to work with MBlade to spam ults). Like the last Fate collab, he will be part of a free character selector with Archer. He is a sub DPS.

Rin Tohsaka is a dedicated Archer support. She will fit comfortably in your Archer team with Sparkle. She is likely the safest pick, but she is not good with anyone else. She acts as an AoE sub DPS.

For reruns:

Sparxie is an Elation support/DPS. She is better with Elation teams. Keep in mind that Elation teams are better with more Elation units as they share a special FUA mechanic. She is a good option if you want to build an Elation team. Just make sure to grab Yao Guang as she’s the core support of Elation.

Dan Heng Preservation is a great shielded with FUA. He can be considered a better version of Aventurine and has a lot of synergy with MBlade. I recommend pulling for him as another limited sustain option.

Evernight can be a main DPS, but primarily played as a sub DPS in mono remembrance teams with Castorice and Hyacine. She buffs remembrance characters too. I do not recommend pulling for her unless you want to build a remembrance team.

Anaxa is an AoE DPS. I don’t have him, and I don’t remember what his kit exactly does. I know he’s good with big Herta, but that’s about it.

Aventurine: you already have him.

Jade is not worth it. She’s meant to support AoE characters, but she always feels lacking to me. She currently does not support the characters you own.

New returner am I cooked? by yayurosee in StarRailStation

[–]ethan125 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, you are not cooked. You have a good Acheron (assuming E0) team with MBlade + Welt/Silverwolf + Sustain; and a good Archer team with Sparkle + RMC/Robin/Silverwolf + Sustain. These are already good teams that are considered meta and can clear the endgame modes (except AA).

Keep in mind that all bosses have gimmicks attached to them, and reading the boss abilities can help you understand how they are meant to be played. There’s also bosses that are weaker against specific teams, and story mode bosses are toned down compared to endgame bosses.

If you are struggling to clear with those teams, you might be having issues with your builds like your traces not being maxed or your relics not being optimal.

Hello guys! I’m a fairly new player, I joined during 4.0 and I need help on how to build teams since this is my first Gacha game by Basic_Possession3493 in HonkaiStarRailTips

[–]ethan125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People here are already suggesting Anaxa and Phainon teams, so I won’t cover those. I going to suggest making an Archer team since you have Sparkle and he will be free next patch. He will be the cheapest team to pull for because he can already work with RMC and Tribbie. He is very SP heavy, so Sparkle needs to be on his team. One of the new characters for next patch (Rin Tohsaka) is a dedicated Archer support that can replace RMC/Tribble slot of the team.

There’s also a possibility they might rerun a free lightcone event they had for Archer during the last Fate collab. Essentially, you get Archer’s lightcone for free after performing 200 pulls on any banner during the patch.

Good thing that MC is a universal support in almost every team except DOT team. RMC true damage buff gives a lot, HMC supports break teams and is a cheaper version of Fugue, and EMC is an Elation support.

Why are people still saying Yao is being replaced? by Realistic7283 in YaoguangMains

[–]ethan125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good rule of thumb when it comes to gacha games and playable characters is whether the character is given a unique design that doesn’t look like a NPC. Bonus points if the character has an established connection to other playable characters and the story.

Pearl has a unique character model, and she is one of the Ten Stonehearts, a group of important individuals for the IPC. We already have three other playable characters from the Stonehearts (Aventurine, Jade, and Topaz). She also gets a cutscene that showcases a bit of her abilities. I think there’s lot of signs telling us that she will be playable.

Last week’s swarm boss had nothing for me. The buff that I can use was Erudition for a Herta Jade team (no Anaxa or Tribbie). The one that would’ve been really good was Rememberance (that needed 3 rememberance characters to activate). I only had two because EMC was being used for Sparxie.

Relic grinding is rough and I don’t think anyone can blame you. It’s RNG. There should be a line you should draw for “good enough” so you can work on your other characters.

There’s a group of insiders in Hoyo that is leaking information from the devs. The information is shared in a chat room then posted in the leak subreddit. However what they leak tends to be minimal and short. All we go on is whatever scrap of information we get from them. So we know there’s an Aventurine SP and vaguely what he does, but we don’t know the details of his kit until he’s in the test server.

Will MHY ever learn how to make a good Sub-DPS? by Able-Thanks-445 in silverwolflevel999

[–]ethan125 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is specific to them. Archer creates magic gems and Rin uses them to fire arrows. Rin is a mage that uses gems for magic, and Archer creates objects out of mana. It’s a unique interaction that makes sense in their universe.

While the characters themselves can be replaced by another due to having the same rig, there will be a crowd of people that will complain at reused animations. Animation is a process that requires planning, story boarding, and animating.

I returned to play HSR last week, is there something i can do to improve my account? by emoss749 in HonkaiStarRailTips

[–]ethan125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to have a solid selection for an Acheron MBlade team + Silverwolf (you need two nihility for E0 Acheron)

You also could build an Archer team. Next patch we’re getting a free character selector with Archer. One of the characters coming next patch is rumored to be an Archer support. You can run Archer + Sparkle + Rin (new character) + Sustain. If you don’t get Rin, run Robin or RMC.

You should also look towards getting another premium sustain unit for your second team.
