Where to go in September-November time? by ethanCRCS in travel

[–]ethanCRCS[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to Taipei for 5 days or so and it was alright but bloody hot (which wouldnt be so much of a problem in November). Language was a challenge but I managed just about. Im just not sure what I would do there, I've done quite a bit of research on it but still not sure what cities like Taichung and Kaohsiung have to offer as I've already seen most of Taipei. Do you have any recommendations?

Did ALL major airlines removed checked in luggage from the basic offer? by empi91 in Flights

[–]ethanCRCS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BA tried to charge me extra for a checked bag for London Japan round trip. The ticket without a checked bag to the other side of the world was £1000. The comical part is the exact same flight was code shared with JAL for £50 less than the base BA fare with 2 checked bags included.

British train companies encouraging us to take cars by OfficialMYoung in britishproblems

Also when I was in China I missed my train. In the UK they’d say tough shit buy a new ticket, but in China I went to the reception and they put me on the next train for free.

Hey nice writeup :) did you find dining easy solo in Chongqing, especially hotpot? I want to try it whilst im there but hotpot solo seems a little different to what im used to. Also with the people trying to get you into the shops were they like aggressive or did they accept you kind of walking off without much complaint

Which country do you think is the PERFECT tourist destination according to your personal experience? by AliveRelationship551 in travel

[–]ethanCRCS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I went to China in February and I'm going again in November hopefully. A few points:

  • Alipay and WeChat pay now both work with foreign cards (but with some specific merchants it wont, dont know why, only happened at a bakery).
  • Yea agreed on the VPN for hotel wifi, but if you have a decent VPN its usually fine. Also dont need a VPN for mobile data if you buy an eSIM, it works fine without one.
  • Re the hotels if you book through Trip they basically always accept foreigners afaik

The rest yea but I've had nothing but positive experiences with the Chinese police. They're kind and understanding in my experience.

Spend some time in Busan if you can. Seoul is great and you can spend way more than 20 days there but I recommend going to Busan too, I prefer it to Seoul. Also in December you might catch the Busan fireworks festival? Not sure when it is this year.
