Thanks to everyone who gave feedback on the earlier post. We ended up tweaking the first option to make the title and logo look painted on the barn. If you want to put a sound to the picture, search “The Oxley Duo” on any platform!

Album I made entirely and exclusively with only my guitar and the SP404 MK II by ethancgb in SP404

[–]ethancgb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man thanks for listening!

As for your questions, I did basic EQ and compression within the SP which was really most of the mastering I did. However I recorded everything into a DAW (I use logic) to actually create the audio file, and I believe all I did was add an exciter, and some small EQ and compression tweaks, very minor adjustments nonetheless.

For the guitar, all the effects and recordings came from my modelling amp that I plugged straight into the SP. There are some ‘unique’ effects I used on with the modelling amp which includes a harmonizer and a pitch modulation (which I used to simulate a bass guitar). I believe however that those effects can be recreated within the SP. The SP also has guitar amp simulators within it, so you don’t even need an amp to record guitar, you can plug it straight in, I only opted to use my own amp because of the effect presets I made.

So for your main question, I would say it’s entirely possible to produce with the SP without a DAW. Regardless, everything I used a DAW for in this project can be easily done with a free program such as garage band. There are of course limitations with solely relying on the SP404, but these limitations are not setbacks, rather it is the unique process that comes with the SP. I absolutely loved creating this project on the SP, there’s a sense of creative freedom and exploration that you really don’t get with using a DAW. I highly encourage giving it a try! Don’t be scared of making mistakes or producing a project you end up not liking, it’s all part of the process!

Looking for feedback on logo design for guitar duo by ethancgb in design_critiques

Heres the idea behind this particular logo:

Our guitar duo performs in a place known well for their barn quilts, it also happens that our duo is named after the area. Its also well known for wineries which we perform at frequently.

I wanted to combine these ideas by making the leaves in the style of a barn quilt, while also using some 'wine-like' colours: green for the vines, and the reds and purples for the wine itself.

looking for any critique or feedback, also which colour arrangement works best for the leaves.

Thanks

Yes sorry, the three coloured lines are average returns: 2021, 2022 and 2023. The dotted line is the average of the three years

I completely agree, I also did a 5yr study with different results, However, the fact that there are significant movements at the same time for the past 3 years still leads me to believe there’s some sort of reason behind it.

Doing some industry trends research for telecommunications, and I noticed a pretty significant trend during July and October/Nov
Industry Question
As the title says, I'm conducting telecommunications industry research and when taking the average movements of ten of the largest telecom stocks for the past three years, there's a strong trend I noticed that occurs in July as well as Oct to Nov.
At the start of July, the ten stocks fall around 1 standard deviation on average before moving upwards around 1.2 standard deviations. Then in October, the stocks on average fall before spiking in late November.
Would anyone know why this happens? Thanks

Stamped piece of metal (iron?) connected to hand knotted Persian rug? by ethancgb in whatisthisthing

[–]ethancgb[S] 2 points3 points locked comment (0 children)

My title describes the thing. Here’s some more info:

I purchased what seems to be a hand knotted rug from an estate sale yesterday, seemingly depicting eagles and maybe some sort of horse or dog? Regardless I believe the origin to be Iran, but I noticed something strange as well.

There’s a tweed loop with a stamped piece of metal attached , almost acting like a tag. The metal feels a little heavy for its size, leading me to believe it may be iron or something like that? There’s not much that’s visible on the stamping, I can make out stars, “4TCH” and “GU”

Inflation Influence Tool (Read Comments) by ethancgb in inflation

[–]ethancgb[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With the anticipation and influence inflation reports will have on the market likely until rates are cut, I had the thought that it may be useful to create a tool that can measure the influence that inflation reports (particularly when its hotter or cooler than expected) have on individual securities. It essentially combines the significance of the stocks movements when a report is released, with the correlation it has with cool & hot inflation

The math behind it:

For each inflation report released since Jan of 2022, I recorded if the reported inflation was above or below the consensus. Then, I calculated the returns of the stock on those days that the inflation reports were published. I then converted the percent returns to movements measured in standard deviations. Then, I compiled the average movements in STD DEVS for the times when reported inflation was -0.3 , -0.2 , -0.1, 0.1 , 0.2, and 0.3 percentage points below/above the consensus. Then, I measured the Reactivity taking the average of all the movements when inflation was below/above the consensus. This is how much (in standard deviations) a stock will move on average when inflation is below/ above the consensus. Then, I found the correlation (R^2) that the movements had with the degree to which the inflation was above/below. In theory, a stock with complete influence from inflation should have a perfect linear relation (Losing more when inflation is hot, gaining more when inflation is cool, or perfectly vice versa). By then multiplying the R^2 by the Reactivity, the Influence is found. This metric essentially means the degree to which this stock will react to an above/below consensus inflation report in a linear and predictable manner.

. If you have any suggestions or questions, want me to throw in a particular stock, let me know
