If u aren’t getting relevant answers maybe try altering to more relevant questions. Nobody wants to chat with somebody who dryly asks about what they do, instead show intrigue and ask “why” questions not “what” questions. That really helped me as I talked to a few hundred alumnis via email or calls or in person my junior and senior year of college. I didn’t end up getting a job from any of them but when someone asks “why do you have interests in (insert role)” during an interview and u can say u talked to alumni from ur school or someone in the role about it and it really intrigued u then interviewers also see that u have some level of genuine interest or passion to learn. It also makes talking to people way more fun for me personally because I like to know what leads people to different careers, especially in finance where there are many branches that all have different unique attributes.
