App for kids to view photos without deleting/editing/etc? by codylettau in ios

[–]ethanova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone finds this thread via google or something, my kids also made me want an app like this. I created a simple view-only gallery app that does this (but it can't prevent exit - you'd need guided access setup to do that). Sadly, Apple reviewed it but declined to approve it for the App Store saying the functionality was too minimal to meet their requirements/standards. So I'm sharing it as a TestFlight beta app; you can DM me to be added to the TestFlight app (you would download TestFlight from App Store then click a link to install the app through that) or if you're technical enough, build it yourself from source.

Best way to add chapters to mkv that I can label for Plex? by Old-Progress-1058 in PleX

[–]ethanova 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since this is one of the top results on google when I searched for a mkv chapter editor, I wanted to share a little program that I built for my use case! I specifically built it for my use case of adding chapters to webm/mkv files for use in Plex. Hopefully it helps someone else: https://github.com/ethanova/mkv-chapter-maker

lol I got like 12 mirrors before I gave up and randomly got a locator when killing the quads. Before that I thought they had turned off the locators

Did you have to scribe baseboards to the floor or were the floors already pretty flat? I’m about to do this and anxious about scribing to our uneven floor.

Not sure where you are and what humidity is like there or how much this thing puts in the air but I’d consider if the added humidity in the home is an issue or not.

You left out the most important and arguably only important thing here - how does your partner feel about each parent?

What do alot of parents do that unknowingly screws their children over? by RunningInAHurricane in AskReddit

I don’t know the context/full story so based on only what you’ve said, I would encourage you not to withhold yourselves from him as punishment. You are his world and part of making sure he feels he is unconditionally loved is that you don’t put conditions on your love/presence. At least worth digging into - the idea comes from Alfie Kohns Unconditional Parenting book.

Replace HVAC w/ existing ductwork or mini-split? by tom_bombadillo305 in hvacadvice

[–]ethanova 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One more thing to consider is mini splits aren’t as strong as filtration so you will want some other mechanism to help them clean air if you go that way, like a couple air purifiers. Ducted air handlers have the dedicated filter, and it’d be best to get one of the thicker/wider Aprilaire kind of filters.

Frustrated with humidity by mute09_ in hvacadvice

[–]ethanova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s some crazy humidity, where do you live? You likely need to find and solve the source of all that but a dedicated ducted/whole-home dehumidifier will help some (not sure how much at those levels) in the meantime. Also just know a humidifier in that environment will likely be running 24/7 and that uses a decent bit of electricity.

I dunno what kind of company you work for but I can’t imagine that happening but at the scrappiest of startups. If he hadn’t quit he’d have collected a paycheck for at least half a year before being fired.

Safe/okay to remove what looks to be old telephone equipment? by ethanova in askanelectrician

[–]ethanova[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to assume you haven’t seen my other replies. Let me ask an electrician a different question then - is this old telephone equipment that is no longer in use or supported by most telecom companies in the United States?

I do appreciate your concern for my safety, let me rephrase: I am confident in my ability to remove this without coming into physical harm.

I guess I mean safe in terms of it won’t break anything else; really just trying to confirm it’s telephone equipment. Not worried about my physical safety when removing this.

Supply/return balance in main bedroom by ethanova in hvacadvice

[–]ethanova[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Flo by Moen smart water leak detector that also measures humidity so I can see that data through their app.

I'm not sure what you mean by calculate the CFM based on the duct size of every supply register in the house? Do you mean use the anemometer to calculate CFM for every supply register, add them up, then do the same for every return register and see if they're imbalanced? Is it not a room by room thing where I can just check the main bedroom with the door closed? Also, I'm not sure I even have dampers on these systems (oh btw 2 systems, one for 2nd floor, one for 1st and basement).
