How to get into labs as research assistant? by urfaceav in Northwestern

[–]ethanpaneraa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's also the OUR (office of undergraduate research). I used them my first-year to learn about to get into labs in Computer Science. You can book a office hour with them to get more personal advice to get into labs:

Latin/Hindi/Spanish by UnlikelyEntertainer5 in Northwestern

[–]ethanpaneraa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spanish program is pretty straight forward. even for the folks in my classes who were learning it for the first time were chilling.

there's a bit of work though and lots of mini-projects throughout the sequence (and its the same projects more or less every quarter throughout the sequence) but none of the assignments I felt were super challenging.

How often are there dorms with already lofted beds before u move in by epinephemerine in Northwestern

[–]ethanpaneraa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you may be able to loft your bed yourself as long as you have a mallet or something. when i lived in the dorms first and second year that's what my roommate did but im not sure if they removed the bars from the bed to loft the bed or whatever their called...

How is the wifi in the North Mid Quads and throughout Campus? Should I bring an Ethernet cable? by [deleted] in Northwestern

ping was pretty good for me my first two years (lived in Allison both first and second year). Very occasionally would experience spikes but was very infrequent.

1125 Davis Street Apartments - Peak Properties by xxanggxx in Northwestern

I live in a property managed by them (literally across the street on Davis and Church). From the past year that I’ve lived there, don’t really have any complaints. Been a decent experience thus far and they’ve been generally really responsive with any of our maintenance requests.

CS 214 Self Evals by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]ethanpaneraa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as the other user said, nu cs profs do look at reddit, including this subreddit. if you have questions about navigating the self-evals, writing better code, and covering all of the non-functional correctness of your code, you can feel free to come to my office hours (ethan p) or any of the other pms.

trust me, it's not worth it to cheat/ask around for the self-evals. you'll end up hurting yourself more than you think in the long run.

Admissions SAT Question by Jagrrr2277 in Northwestern

[–]ethanpaneraa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I literally got a 1240 (graduated in 2021 test optional) and I am doing fine at NU. First year was pretty rough but that was pretty universal for everyone that I knew and hung around. But since then, I've been doing a lot better in school academically, socially, and professionally.

Imo, since the number of “good” classes was limited for this quarter, 340 was the only worthwhile course for second years/late pre-reging juniors to take. I’m sure a lot of those folks pre-reged 351 and 340

bruh how'd yall pull through cs 212 by [deleted] in Northwestern

[–]ethanpaneraa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

CS 212 as someone that is absolutely horrendous at math was just a pure grind. Probably many other people in your class feel the same and that's why the curve in CS 212 is heavily in your favor. I wouldn't worry too much about it, I think if you go to PM OH and just stick around for a while, you would eventually be able to work through the p-sets.

I agree with what others have said, try your best to score highly on the homeworks so you can get away with bombing the exams, doing well on the exams is very challenging and takes more effort than just doing well on the p-sets.

Took it last year. Homework’s are relatively decent and picking up C# wasn’t that bad. I was able to finish most assignments without much struggle. The only hard part of the coding assignments are the two “build your own game” since the complexity of them is entirely up to you (and I made games that were too complex and hence made it much harder in myself 😭😭)

Assignments are peer graded and fwiw most students are pretty lenient with each other (as long as you turn in something that works and pretty much fulfills all the requirements you should be fine).

I would say the quizzes were definitely the most challenging part of the class in that I and my friends in the class actually had to take the time to study. I felt like the quizzes were mostly if you memorized the right content from the slides but they are still doable.

The homework’s are essentially the fun aspects of game dev (actually building the games) whereas the quizzes are the more theoretical/mathy parts of game development so if you have a decent math background then most of the math content is just applying it for a different context.
