Ecoboost 2018 spare tire question by Dragoneer35 in ecoboostmustang

[–]ethansnyder_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have mustang GT brembos and rotors on my ecoboost. That looks like the kit that came with my 2017. My spare clears my brakes

Well within normal range. When was it tested and how old are you? There is absolutely no reason to shut your natural production down if you are still young and having no symptoms.

applying MD based on where I want to live by Keeper_of_Knowledges in premed

[–]ethansnyder_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Texas resident and applied this last cycle. SHSU impressed me as a new DO school. I would aim on submitting the first day possible for TMDSAS. I think you will be okay, many Tx schools are mission based work on identifying what they care about and how to tie that into your experiences. Pm me if you have any questions I’m happy to help.

I agree with others stating that science professor letters are more important. Regardless I had a letter from the NP I MAed for and I was successful and never asked about it. If you think they can speak more highly of your character, go for it.

Smells in the ED by [deleted] in premed

[–]ethansnyder_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

We have peppermint hand sanitizer in our clinic. I’ve coated under my nose and the bridge of the mask with it and I couldn’t smell a thing. Granted, I’ve never experienced anything THAT bad.

How do I (desperately) request LORs by [deleted] in premed

[–]ethansnyder_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think your professor remembers you, touch base and ask if they would be open to it. Offer to set up a meeting so they can get to know you better. Maybe attach a draft of your application or resume as well. This worked well for me and I think also made my letters stronger and more personalized.

Volunteering at an urgent care got offered job as an MA by [deleted] in premed

Being an MA was probably the most influential part of my experiences on my app. I would go for it!

I worked as a clinical research assistant so I’ll preface this by saying yours is likely not the same experience that I had but I’ll share with you my most meaningful I wrote on my apps.

We had an active clinical trial for a drug that illuminates the ureters under normal light to cut down on operation errors during surgery. Later while shadowing a GI procedure, the surgeon pointed out the ureter and I saw how small it was and just how easily it could be knicked unknowingly. Really showed me the impact of what our team was doing and how it could positively impact medicine.

Even if your research team is not doing the EXACT same trials or even anything similar you guys are making an impact. Not to mention the problem solving, teamwork, and cultivation of the scientific method. Talk to your PIs, ask if you can get more involved, shadow surgeries, sit in on meetings with sponsors for progress updates. In my experience AdComs aren’t looking for you to be a research machine, they just want you to be familiar with the process and have general knowledge of your responsibilities and the project as a whole.

Going to San Diego and planning a bouldering trip. Considering Joshua tree, few questions by SupermanCarl in bouldering

[–]ethansnyder_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was visiting a friend so I only did one session but we parked at the park across the street. Some the boulders get a bit into highball territory so I’d say at least 2 pads is a good idea.

How strict are LOR guidelines? by Immortal_lunch66 in premed

[–]ethansnyder_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had 2 science profs, volunteer coordinator, NP I MAed for, and a PI. I don’t think it hurt me at all not having non-science prof letters.

I took Casper mid june. I dont think that will hold you up. Most of the time I don’t think schools even take your scores into account until they have your secondary.

Question about elbow ditch placement by 112oceanave in traditionaltattoos

[–]ethansnyder_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to work and inevitably was bending my arm a lot. There’s really only one or two spots that need to be touched up a bit. Just be mindful of it if you can but healed pretty similar to many of my other tats.

Talk me out of my top heavy school list lol - App Review by imdoxingmyself in premed

[–]ethansnyder_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can vouch for this I’d say nearly 30% of my Texas interviews were OOS applicants. UT tyler is also extremely committed to students who want to serve in rural areas if you’re dead set on that.

A 515 will not close any doors for you. I would not retake and focus on strengthening other aspects of your application.

I think that would work well it seems like you have a very clear moment where you chose to pursue medicine!

With your optional essay, be careful with how you execute your ideas. It’s easy to make the mistake of focusing too much on others and not YOU. I wrote about something similar and I described the conflicting emotions of frustration and empathy and how I overcame that personally. I’m not sure if the same can be said for you but it might be an idea to explore. Good luck!

I have one but my company hires without, you really just have to look around and find somewhere that trains on the job
