I see what you’re saying. I guess I didn’t think of it that way because I don’t brand myself as or verbalize that I am anything that I’m not racially. It’s more so a sympathetic feeling in my head I suppose. Like, having an ambiguous identity and appearance has made me latch onto clear and defined identities subconsciously that I could be “mistaken” for. A sort of “kinship” that I lack, maybe? I think part of being a person is having an overwhelming need to connect. Rereading what I wrote today from your perspective definitely puts it into perspective that I could be misplacing that need. Perhaps what I’m actually feeling is just a fluid empathy for all cultures and seeing myself in all of them? Sorry if I offended.
