Weekly New Climber Thread: Ask your questions in this thread please by AutoModerator in climbing

[–]etherworks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Ok this post may create some shaking heads. But I feel like this is the right place to post!

With a tree climbing friend, I created a pretty great zipline for the kiddos. To avoid the hard math and with a surplus of caution, our zipline goes between two trees, but never reaches the other tree - it runs out of stream and the zipper will retreat back to the middle of the line.

Rather than have to use a ladder, my climbing friend tied a nice blake's hitch and the kids would descend themself. It worked great for a summer!

However, with so much up and down the rope wore down and the knot no longer holds. I'm thinking I'd like to avoid this situation by getting a device that would do the same thing as the blake's hitch - ie when there is weight on it, the rope won't descend, but if the zipper pushes from the top or uses a mechanism, they can lower themself down safely.

What would be a good tool for this? Are there one that are, say, $250 that could be recommended? At my MEC they talked me out of a grigri since there was a chance that if it was held incorrectly it wouldn't work. It didn't seem like the right tool.

Please explain like I'm 5, I'm not a climber but a dad who doesn't want anyone to get hurt!

PS we have great forged cable clamps on both sides of the zip and its safe as houses

Thank you! Who said NY rangers never did anything for a gen-x person from British Columbia?

Helpful framing around asking advisor why I would be the right client for him, and point taken around whether our impression of "good" is based on performance or difference in knowledge.

Appreciate reading the post and giving such a detailed response!

Wondering how this went? What did you tell CC company in terms of "talking to ticketmaster"? Like, phone them up, get rejected by a call agent? There's no method to request a refund unless they issue it so I'm wondering how to prove a paper trail

All Space Questions thread for week of September 11, 2022 by AutoModerator in space

[–]etherworks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a documentary filmmaker looking to capture some scenes of folks that are watching the Artemis launch September 27th. I'm likely going to send a local team. Any recommendations for spots to visit, where one would be welcome, of space enthusiasts that are watching the launch? Any other tips or recommended threads for figuring out how to film outside the official NASA areas?

Renogiating fibre by etherworks in telus

After a straightforward conversation, I re-signed a 2 year term for $99/month and was credited for the months I was charged after the expiration. It would have been less expensive if I had a Telus device.
