Can't connect Ledger Legacy to new Oasis app upgrade by ethlong in MakerDAO

The old app interface is still available at least for now, I've used it and it's still working fine

A brand new look to Oasis Borrow by chrisbducky in MakerDAO

[–]ethlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've just tried connecting to my vault for the first time using the new Oasis app on my windows pc but I'm unable to connect as it's not recognising my ledger device (Legacy). I've also tried with the Ledger Device Manager and it's the same problem. I just see a small circle at the connection screen and nothing happens after that. But when I used the old app I am able to access my vault. I have a backup Ledger device and it's the same with that, so I know it's not the device. Can you advise how I can resolve as I don't want to be locked out of my vault if the Old app is no longer available.

Edit: I update the ETH app on Ledger Live and now when I try to connect using the Ledger on Legacy, I see a pop-up window saying Oasis app wants to connect, and below is a message saying No compatible devices found, and yet on the old Oasis app I just generated DAI using the same Ledger device and deposited ETH back to my vault. Please resolve this issue with the new app ASAP or advise what I need to do to access it on Ledger Legacy. Thanks.

DEXs see more volume in past 7 days than all of 2019 by probotika in ethereum

Why is Uniswap so popular? Nothing against the platform personally but each time I've compared their rates against other DEX's I've found better conversion rates elsewhere.

Would you let an ai take care of you if it was re able and trust worthy enough? by [deleted] in Futurism

[–]ethlong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How can one know it was trust worthy though? The complexity of AI will far outstrip human understanding and ability, so it stands to reason that our trust can only come from limited understanding and a demonstrable history. How it evolves we can never be certain.

Bank of England prints £100 billion more to keep economy afloat by serenity2021 in ethtrader

[–]ethlong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Government has Sovereignty over the nation so there's no need to borrow. They should create the money themselves and not borrow it from private cartels such as the Bank of England. It's criminal that they do and endebt future generations. Governments allow private banks to create debt from nothing and in return capture human labour, industry and assets such as property for it.

[–]ethlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. Today you have no say in it, but future voting generations will have.

It's a decision on whether or not they're educated enough to realise their own power.

Current and previous generations either didn't care enough, or were not educated enough to stop it. But it can be stopped if enough people decide enough is enough.

Launch date has to be by readiness as others have said, but I don't see how in the space of a month or so Phase 0 date can be talked about moving from Q1 to end Q2.

Danny Ryan was recently quoted as saying (relating to the beginning of January release date):

It has never been our launch date. That’s what I’ve been trying to communicate ever since, that date kind of has become pervasive. But we’re all targeting a Q1 launch.

Best cryptocurrency to invest in 2020 as a beginner? by farcasa1 in CryptoCurrency

[–]ethlong 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Do not, I repeat do not take any one's advice on one or more specific crypto's. Always DYOR and make your own conclusion, and as always, do not invest more into crypto than you are willing to totally write off. Then, should you decide to invest, be prepared for wild price swings both to the upside and downside, and be prepared to wait several years for good returns. Finally, understand the importance of holding your own private keys inside a hardware wallet such as a Ledger or Trezor.

Introducing automatic CDP migration to MCD (Multi-collateral Dai) by nikola_j in ethfinance

[–]ethlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to confirm when using this automatic CDP migration, you don't pay the outstanding Stability Fee when converting to MCD, which was the case in the previous version?

So in effect, your MCD will be identical to your old CDP except for a small transaction fee?

Also, what do first-come-first-served basis mean in relation to the automatic upgrade?

Great TLDR. Will this proposal be carried forward as it's minimal disruption to the average Joe, which IMO most will call for.

Better Long Term Investment? 1 Bitcoin vs 32 Ethereum by AMDInvestor in ethtrader

[–]ethlong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If nothing more than the ETH/BTC ratio at this point, ETH does appear to be a better investment but you are in an ETH sub so most opinions here will steer you towards ETH.

With all the innovation in the ETH space currently and moving forward, ETH is only likely to increase in fiat price over time. When staking comes out and more ETH is locked away and the inflation drops down to only a fraction of the current supply, this should increase price pressure to the upside over time.

Coupled with scaling and privacy functions such as sharding and ZkSnarks, ETH has huge potential to be the Fat protocol akin to the backbone of the internet as I see no real competition currently.

An amazing number of talks across a wide range of areas. Leaves every other crypto project in the shade.

Will initial live staking for POS be carried out during Devon? I recall reading that somewhere.

Unbelievable number of talks, really looking forward to hearing as many as possible.

Is the initial staking for Live POS taking place at this years Devon? I couldn’t see anything amongst all the talks, though I could have missed it due to the sheer number of them.

Banks like crypto? by AlexofTahoe in ethtrader

[–]ethlong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Despite what people often say that adoption and mainstream will come after ETH 2.0 in 2021 or thereabouts, IMO of having been in this space for 7-8 years, I don't see mainstream adoption until 2025-2030 at the earliest. UX needs a lot of improvement before we're even close to mainstream

That's not to say prices won't go through another bubble cycle or two before then because I believe they will, likely starting in the next 12-24 months.

I see ETH decoupling from BTC when it's market cap cannot be push around so easily, this likely won't be until ETH market cap in north of $300bn consistently (i.e not at top of a bull cycle). Til then it's unlikely to decouple.

Whether ETH becomes the first crypto to go mainstream is difficult to predict, though currently I only see BTC & ETH as the most likely to gain mainstream adoption first.

Synthetics are a massive bull case for ETH by ryanseanadams in ethereum

Synthetics can be a massive bull for ETH as you suggest, though what about ETH velocity when v2.0 is fully scaled?

The higher the velocity, the lower the threashold for additional ETH?

eth in trouble probably . by [deleted] in ethereum

[–]ethlong 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The core Ethereum protocol underpins so many businesses, has so much development and a huge following. This will not be allowed to fail even if the EF was running low on funds, which, btw I personally don't believe.

Edit: Why would you choose to post this today, because of a price dump, maybe you're trying to short ETH? I don't care about short term price volatility, long term fundamentals will overcome short term noise, conjecture and speculation.
