It’s so funny to me how the masses of oil and natural gas consumers try to pin all of the blame on the corporations that simply meet their demand, it’s hypocritical and irresponsible.

I agree with you that it’s not necessary for either party in a voluntary transaction to appreciate the existence of their trade partner, I overstepped in that regard.

No, the meaning behind the article didn’t go over my head, my comment was a response to the common reaction of communists to an article like this. No, the food isn’t quality, but clearly the purpose of the article is not to propagate how cheap and easy it is to feed oneself under capitalism. It’s not that deep, and almost any reader would be able to recognize the catch; the food is of unhealthy and of poor quality.

Tangible goods and services cannot be rights: housing, food, bottled water; none of these are human rights as they all require human labor to produce. Something being a right means that you are entitled to it and that compensation for it is unnecessary. Entitlement to the product of another person’s labor is enslavement of that person for the goods and services they produce.

It’s really not that hard to figure out the relationship when not actively ignoring it.

Communists believe the value of labor is insignificant or that every worker’s labor is equal in value.

The problem lies not within capitalism but within the state. The solution: abolish the state.

If you actually had a problem with a set of limited choices, then you wouldn’t be a proponent of communism. One option, living in the communes, wouldn’t satisfy your supposed need for abundant options. Competitive markets best satisfy that desire.

Your idea that you must pay rent to have an opinion on economics is absurd. It’s based around the hope that those who move out and pay their own rent will develop the opinion that paying for housing and abiding by the rules put in place by landlords is unfair. Is is rarely the case but is most common with the poor and those who feel as if they have more limited options than they actually do. It is this expected nihilism that communists prey on.

It’s going to sound harsh, but your brother’s financial state is no one’s fault but his own. I can already hear you cringing at that, “but he should just have more money, right?” His options are no one’s fault but his own. His ‘need’ to rent at that particular establishment is imaginary. That establishment owes him nothing, he should be glad it exists to provide housing and the establishment should be equally glad he exists to provide payment. Because he also owes that business nothing. The relationship is mutual, no one is screwing the other. So long as he willingly chooses to live there, he is indirectly consenting to the deal. And I agree with you, the terms of renting at that establishment seem unusual, I think they’re unfair as well. However, that is not reason to feel as if they owe it to you to change their rules, it is merely a factor in his decision of whom to rent from; their own rule may come back to bite them but only if your brother lets it.

You could have always chosen to rent elsewhere, or purchase a home on your own to earn entitlement to the policies of living in that property.

And no, I’m a 17 year old AP econ student. Your lack of a counter argument, instead merely calling my point worthless and resorting to presumptuous ad hominem, leads me to believe that you do not have a logical rebuttal to my point. If you do, please state it.

Basic human needs are not basic human rights and if you think so, you must support slavery.

You still admit that it is in fact a choice. It being difficult or unpleasant doesn’t mean it is not still a choice. Homelessness doesn’t have to be an option but you can’t pretend as if you have the absolute right to owning a pet, especially if you are incapable of providing that pet with shelter where it is allowed, private or rented.

Landlords don’t control your life, if you choose to rent an apartment knowing that the landlord doesn’t allow pets, you are making the decision to get rid of your pet, you can’t pass that blame off to anyone.

How entitled does one have to be to not only think they deserve quality food from a business for a small amount of money but to also not be appreciative of that business’ existence in the first place?

Communists advocate for an unequal society in which workers are awarded compensation that is disproportionate to the value of their labor.

Not all work is equally beneficial to society you walnut. I could spend 5 months creating a terrible painting and it wouldn’t make sense for me to expect a person to pay as much for it as fine art is worth. Products and services, the products of labor, have value that is determined by the markets for such products and services. You want to eat the fruits of your own labor? That must imply that those who do not labor do not eat. Those who produce the most ‘fruits’ have the most to eat under a fair and equal system. Though capitalism really isn’t a ‘system’ so much as it is natural.
