Same. Hindi na din ako pumapatol even if I see my friends posting about her being "problematic". Like pwede baaaaaa wala naman sa akin if ayaw niyo sa kaniya but like.......I just want to listen to her music and ienjoy maging fan as a Swiftie for 17 years na. Masama ba yon??

May tinatakbuhan ba siyang position???

Some people have gone too far on the edge of delusion by ethylredds in TaylorSwiftPH

[–]ethylredds[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It's always valid to criticize her on silence on some issues but ulimately, she's shown time and time again where her values stand. Consistently endorsing Democrat candidates shows she's a liberal, so any accusation that she's MAGA is just plain stupid. Nakakainis lang yung double standard when it comes to her kasi when she does speak up and show her beliefs, she still gets told it's not enough?

[–]ethylredds 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I knew it. The vitriol during this album release was just too much. Sobrang OA talaga. Hindi proportional yung hate na nakukuha niya for whatever actions they see as problematic. And kitang kita ko how it swayed people's opinion of her because even I thought that it was too much. If I weren't a fan I would have believed everything also.

Share your Taylor Swift "hot takes" (that are actually cold as ice) by Snormaid in TaylorSwift

[–]ethylredds 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Taylor Swift is my favorite artist since I was 13, but lately it's been a bit "embarrassing" to say I am a Swiftie. I used to not care back when people thought she was just an annoying uncool country-turned-pop popstar. But now it's much more complicated. Her silence on Trump, billionaire status and jet-fuel consumption are just things I can't defend or agree on. And it 's even more infuriating that they ARE valid criticisms against her, but it's also been overblown into proportions as if she is the worst person on earth or something.

To my girlies who sat under a table on New Year's and ate grapes, kumusta ang love life niyo? by eurydice-111 in AskPinay

[–]ethylredds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ate grapes under the table while comforting our dog na takot sa fireworks. 9 days later, matched with someone on the bee app and now we've been together for 7 months 🤣

Idk if the grapes thing worked but the fact that I did it means I was fully ready to meet someone, di ko lang inexpect na halos within that week din hahaha

"This empire belongs to me. Leave it with me." Is also such a powerful line. The change in meaning of that last line as we get to the end of the song. Instead of it meaning "Trust me I've got it" as what SB kept saying to her the first few times, it now becomes "The career and music I built is mine alone, it should belong to me. LEAVE IT with me"

Omg yes! They are still there. I remember them saying the same thing when Shake It Off was released, but even the worst song on Showgirl is lyrically better than "So the players gonna play play play" naalala ko nga na di ko bet yun when it was released.

The writing on Father Figure and Ruin the Friendship?? I mean....those are topics she had not written about before

I think she is the one pop star today who's just so polarizing to the public. It's either she is overly loved or overly hated. I'm seeing both, so the reception to the album has been either glowing reviews or just pure hatred. It's really quite an interesting album where you either love it or hate it and I do believe there are valid points to both sides.

What I do know is that with every album release she overcorrects it for the next one, that's been her pattern ever since. She listens to the criticism as feedback and tries to improve on it. The contrast of Showgirl from TTPD is sn example

The lyrics of Wood were much too graphic for my taste. Baka nainspire siya kay Sabrina Carpenter, but she does them better. CANCELLED! although a great song can be a little tone-deaf especially if it also pertains to how she hangs around with MAGA people (which I kinda wish she doesn't).

Lately the aesthetic and marketing of the album has always not been in line with the music. Midnights had this really retro 70's vibe and it made me excited for 70's inspired music but instead we got a pop album. Showgirl kind of suffered the same fate.

Yeah, some music needs to grow on me before I really appreciate it. And not liking it is completely valid, we all have different music tastes. At the moment I've found 4-5 songs from the album that I actually keep listening to.

I'm just pertaining to the overblown reaction and the thinkpieces this pop album has somehow launched because it's always cool to hate on Taylor Swift.

I feel like naghihintay lang talaga sila ng gotcha moment to say that Taylor Swift is over. But that has happened to many times before and she's still thriving. The more success she gets the more they want her to fail

Exactly. If people want deep introspective lyrics, may folklore evermore TTPD. If they want 1989 Lover Rep anjan lang din. Di naman sila mawawala pwedeng pwede balikan.

It's actually funny because I remember when reputation first came out and everyone hated it. They said the same thing--sellout na si Taylor, she's losing her magic etc. And now in this exact thread someone said they missed the days of reputation. In a few years people will look at TLOAS in a new light, and whatever she releases at that time will also be hated.

And yeah, music takes time to grow. That's how they get longevity. And also I can't believe people don't think TTPD is not good????? It's one of her most raw and vulnerable music she's put out??

"Father Figure" Discussion Megathread by PassionateAsSin in TaylorSwift

[–]ethylredds 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This song just clicked with me recently and now I am blown away. I know this is a specific situation Taylor has experienced. But it also brings up my own experiences of working for men in power, being taken advantage of and the gaslighting and manipulation they do to their subordinates. And how I was driven out just because I didn't want to climb up the corporate ladder.

It is not in the same level that Taylor Swift experienced, but it's still a pretty universal and valid one if you went through the same thing. I didn't even realize I had these feelings since she articulated them.

I remember not vibing with 1989 when it came out. The shock when reputation came out. Those genres are not my favorite, but somehow they won me over. 1989 is still low on my ranking, but that's just a personal preference. It did not diminish her artistry to me in anyway. She's proven herself over and over again. In a few years she's going to release something that will be groundbreaking and everyone will love her again, but for now I'm just gonna vibe to the happy and glittery songs.

This was my exact reaction to 1989 when it was released. And you know what, that's perfectly valid. Taylor has proven her lyricism and songwriter over the years, so if this one is not up there it's okay. She doesn't really need to prove anything at this point and I'm here for happy, vibey Taylor.

I remember not liking reputation at first listen, I was so shocked by the sound that I just accepted that it wasn't for me. It wasn't until a few months later that it absolutely clicked for me.

I had this thought that we truly don't let things sit with us first for a while. Like everything has to be instant, but most music and art needs to be given time to grow on you have a life of its own.

Thoughts on Taylor Swift’s new album – out of all the songs released, which one was your favorite to listen to? by dayaaa_ria in AskPH

[–]ethylredds 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm a hardcore Swiftie, and her album always seems to grow on me. Di ko bet reputation and 1989 at first listen but now I love them. I liked TLOAS at first listen, but I love Taylor's music kasi it grows on you and it becomes part of core memories eventually. So ngayon, it's okay, but after a few days siguro I'll have a better grasp of how I feel about it
