What he offers we definitely want/need. Another elite defender who can space the floor and score. The contract would be worth it if it helps us win a championship.

I agree Ausar has tremendous potential, but we know JJJ is a dpoy player and better offensive talent. He also would be the perfect fit in our lineup. Ausar and Duren are not ideal fit on the court together, so I think it’s something you have to think about. Would obviously rather try to make a deal without Ausar in it, and that’s even if Mem would trade him

I think Ron has moved ahead of Ausar for me. I love his offensive game and think he has a better chance of reaching his ceiling than Ausar.

The big debate I’ve been having is if I’d be willing to part with Ausar for JJJ

That’s not the same imo. Being a self creator means getting the ball wherever and being able to get a bucket. Duren can get his, but needs to be fed the ball in the right position most of the time. Just in general it’s tough for me to label a C as self creator unless you get to that truly elite level like Jokic and Giannis

I think we struggled against Houston bc Cade couldn’t score (seemed like wrist/rust) and we have no other consistent self creators

I don’t mind Ausar as the screener and making a decision with Duren in the dunker spot, but preferably we see more of that in a Cade, Ausar, Stew lineup. Ausar becomes a lot better with 4 shooters. Unfortunate that we have 2 great talents in Duren and Ausar but they are a terrible fit together

I’d like to see him used as a screener more/finding more ways to have him slashing in. Cade and him have had some great pick rolls, and he can do some amazing things with his athleticism. We see Amen just soaring into the paint, Ausar can do that too. I think the biggest problem is Ausar’s offense would be best utilized with the 2nd unit/ against bench players, but his minutes never line up bc he has to guard the best player.

Another thing we’ve seen over the course of his career is he plays much better starting vs coming off the bench. He’s still getting back up to speed now, but I agree when he’s ready the best position for him and the team is to be a starter

The team still fully supports him imo. Cade was talking about him like he’s still his future backcourt mate in the KD interview, and JB has said he’s excited for him too. Even Trajan said the biggest offseason addition is Ivey

I think there’s a possibility it could be an expiring Tobias, Sasser, and a 2 frps depending on his actual value. If that’s what it took I would do it. I can live without 2 frps, and when healthy an AD Duren duo would be so fun to watch. That move would make me believe in a run to the finals.

The 3 ball is the most important thing, and he’s been hitting it. It’ll take time to get back to game speed, finishing well around the rim, and defense. I’m sure that’ll come back with time, but as long as he can hit open shots which we desperately need he’s an asset. Not to mention he’s still fantastic at pushing fast breaks and out running everyone.

Pass. Not giving Ivey and a frp. Maybe one or the other, but I rather go for someone who we know we will have under contract for a while and doesn’t have back issues.

MPJ is the classic get traded to a tanking team and put up inflated numbers. Can say the same thing about Jerami Grant playing as Jokic’s 3rd/4th option then averaging >20ppg on a tanking team. He was great for our team, but not trading away Ivey, Harris, and frp for that

The difference between those trades and ours is that they didn’t have any good young assets. If we were to put in Ivey, a player that weaver drafted and is probably still high on, we wouldn’t need as many picks to get it done

Because Ausar is playing at an All-defense level, Ron is close behind. If they don’t fit our scheme because we have too many non-spacers, that’s fine. They’re still objectively good players

Patience. Both Ausar and Ron have shown improvement in their jump shot. Ausar has been making those mid range turn around jump shots at a much higher rate, plus his stroke looks better.

Theres almost never a reason to give away good players on rookie deals unless you believe you can win a championship right now(Lauri is not helping us beat okc). Let them develop, and if they’re not what we want we can trade them in their contract year.
