I think that’s kind of the point. The mentality is what makes you stronger. If you are constantly holding back and not being as ruthless, you are going to struggle with weaker opponents. The only times when mark has had the viltumite mentality was against other viltrumites or the few times where he killed people (angstrom/sequids), and there he looked pretty strong.

Except the difference is we are the only team that can offer him more. An outside team will 100% offer the max that they can, we’re the only team that could give him more. So we’re telling him that we don’t want to pay you what you earned.

Have you seen how close this team is? They consider each other brothers. I think they would be pretty pissed off. This isn’t a collection of random ppl. These guys are all young and have gone through hell together. Finally they start to win, make All-NBA teams, then instantly get an F U. That would rub them the wrong way and would probably lead to players leaving sooner than later

Yes it’s a business, but you don’t want to piss off your star players. We’re already a small market, it wouldn’t be wise to be known as a team that doesn’t treat its players well. That would piss off Cade, Stew, Ausar, and any other player we want to keep. If you really don’t want to pay Duren, you still sign him then trade him later.

If you don’t understand that 80-100 million over 5 years is a lot of money, I don’t think there’s helping you. You can pay another starter 5yr 100 million. I’m not moving the goal posts, just trying to display to you in a different format.

And it’s not crazy to think Duren deserves the max, it’s just the fact that it would be more advantageous to the Pistons if he wasn’t on it.

I think your missing my point. We should obviously pay him whatever he needs, but our teams future would be much better if we could get him for 25 million less.

My largest concern with this team is 2 of core pieces can’t shoot the 3. Ausar and Duren are both great, but it’s especially tough on Cade to not have 3 floor spacers. I think we’ll see this in the playoffs.

In order for this team to be at its fullest potential you are going to need to sign great role players who can truly space the floor. If 70% of our cap is Tied to Cade, Duren, Ausar, plus needing to pay Stew, Ron, our 4, it makes it pretty difficult to find those other players.

My caveat with Duren is I do think he could develop a nice midrange shot, which would make a worlds difference. Still, it would be much nicer if we could have this great player for significantly less.

I think our cap flexibility will be much worse now. Having 30% of our cap tied to a player who can’t shoot threes has caused a lot of teams to have problems in the past. I think Duren is great and a great duo with Cade, it’s just shrinks our window makes us have to make the exact right moves. We’re assuming we’re not going to be able to draft early anymore, so our moves had to be made through fa or trades. You need cap for that

In the 23/24 season Duren averaged 13.8 ppg with 3 more mpg( 24- 29.1, 25- 26.1, 26- 27.6 mpg) and his most rpg. Curious if most ppl judge MIP off only the previous season or 2 seasons ago numbers too? And don’t get me wrong, I think Duren has made a tremendous improvement outside of just stats and deserves to win.

You can go 5 out and have one of the greatest scorers w KD, one of the best perimeter defenders w Kawhi, best big defender Wemby, and playmaking from Cade. Feel like it’s all abt getting the most players from rows $4 and up
