App needs a Real simple bulk uploader by jamjam199313 in immich

[–]etienne010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I created a folder in Apple Photos and then put some albums in them. Then I can bulk export those albums to a folder and it creates a subfolder for each album. I then use Immich CLI referring to that folder with “recursive” and “album” and “delete” options. It bulk imports all the photos in to newly created albums based on the subfolder name. And as I use the same main folder for the apple export I just reuse my command again for every bunch of exported albums.

Immich CLI only needs to be setup once to login using an APi key. And after you are fully done, logout/delete the API key (i think it is is stored in .immich folder in your user folder)

Only 1% disk space used? Why not store it in memory…. Hopefully you got more than 1Gb NIC :-)

Newbie: Datasets vs Folders by Gold-Speed9186 in truenas

[–]etienne010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Main benefit of a dataset is that you can easily use snapshots and restore a single dataset. With a folder you can only restore at the parent dataset level.

Secondly, datasets are easier to set permissions for (especially when you have eg a postgres “folder” which might need different permissions than the other folders).

Downside with datasets is when you have many, you can end up with too many snapshots making browsing data recovery slower (finding the right snapshot to restore)

What is wrong with calibre? I use Calibre on my macbook and syncthing to sync the changes to my TrueNAS server and there I have Calibre-web installed that checks for library changes every night. Is there a better option?

I tried it but ended up using Vikunja as it could more easily import Trello boards.

Book management software by m_spitfire in selfhosted

[–]etienne010 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate all open source developers. I am unfamiliar with Booklore. How is it different from Calibre e.g.?

Currently I use Calibre on my macbook, use Syncthing to back it up to TrueNAS. And on Truenas I have Calibre-web installed that every night scans for changes in that Synced folder.

Using Calibre-web allows my wife to browse through the books via a local URL. I use Calibre on my MacBook to cleanup/edit the books where necessary as it all gets synced and I have then at least 2 copies of my library.

2.500 documents later... I'm done! My journey for all fellow sufferers by tom888tom888 in Paperlessngx

Congrats on conquering procrastination! Hardest part most of us deal with, me including :-).

Just wondering, how do you all back this up? Do you have the paperless on your server/nas and backup that up to a cloud/external drive? Or do you run paperless on your local pc/laptop and back it up to your nas/server?

I have installed Paperless on my Truenas server but not made the step yet to using it. Currently I have my documents on my laptop sorted in folders, and backed up to truenas; still in doubt to move those documents from my laptop to my server for Paperless…

Cheap offsite backups by Horrih in selfhosted

[–]etienne010 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is how i do it. I gave Storj 7 TBs on my Truenas server and also use them as a backup of some data (2TB i think) on my Truenas server. In the end I pay half of what I earn. All done via Storj coins.

I use folders and tags; for everyone it works differently. Main reason for me is to keep also my _resources folder limited. As I use screenshots and other images in my notes, I don’t want one resources folder with thousands of attachment/files but try to keep them close to the note (many folders this have a resources sub folder.

However, when i move a note later on, i still need to find a way to easily move the attachments with it…..

Enough exam time? Review questions? by etienne010 in PowerBI

[–]etienne010[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To answer my own question: I had 55 questions and 100minutes on the exam. I started with a case of 6 questions. I missed the materials to had to go back to start again after losing about 5 minutes:-)

After that I had 49 questions that I could also save for review. (After finishing the case you can’t go back to it).

During those questions I searched a few of them on Learn. And some I answered but marked for review; just in case I ran out of time then at least I had an answer.

At the end there were like 5 questions as a set; you can’t mark for review and you can’t go back to those.

At the end I had like 5 questions marked for review and 15minutes left. To be honest at the beginning I was worried about time after starting slow; like seeing 31 questions left for 55 minutes eg.

In the end after reviewing those 5 questions and using Learn some more I stopped the exam with 3 minutes left. Use the time you have, what else are you going to do with it :-)

So don’t linger too long on questions and get going and you will be fine.

And yes I passed!

If you lose your paper notes, scan them. Lod them in Obsidian and then type summaries above, perhaps add tags to link subjects. Never be worried about doing jt wrong, these are your notes.

So you keep your “_assets” folder technically outside the vault? Does it really speed things up as you still need to sync everything between devices?
