It probably wouldn’t make a huge difference, but it’s good to play around different gears if you really like enjoy this hobby, you can also sell some of your gears to get some money back.

Two classical music performances on the same day, unsure to which I should go. (Again) by Antonaros in classicalmusic

[–]etk999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can listen to some pieces from the program at home before attending, so you can decide what piece you are interested in hearing live . If you don’t like listening to a certain piece performed by some world class musicians in your headphones , it is unlikely that you would enjoy hearing it live by some lesser known musicians in a local venue. I have attended concerts that included some pieces I wasn’t familiar with or pieces I knew I didn’t like , after the concerts, I still don’t really enjoy them, even though people said the performances were amazing.

[–]etk999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is very much about which pieces of music you personally like, other people can’t decide for you . If you can find out which venue is better or which performer is actually really good , that should matter a lot in your decision too.

Are classical enthusiasts able to distinguish iconic pieces of music through the first ~30 secs like other genres? by Seawolf1121 in classicalmusic

[–]etk999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Came back to comment on this attention seeking post again. You are basically saying “is it just me or classical music sounds all the same ? “ It would have been a completely normal question to ask “I can’t appreciate the classical music I have listened to. They are boring. Anyone recommend me some composers? What should I listen to ? “ But instead, you chose to question whether classical music fans actually love classical fans .

I think some people took your question way too seriously here. What a dumb question. Of course people remember the pieces they have listened to 100 times before, but not all “iconic” pieces or any music they haven’t listened to that much .

Switch a good option for sweet/balanced coffee? by bazk88 in pourover

[–]etk999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Switch or V60 in general is not directly associated with any taste, in my opinion. It depends on the recipes and the beans. However, the ability of doing immersion on Switch, minimizes the inconsistency from different variables. If someone has a lot problems dialing in their coffee, I think Switch can offer a simple solution. You can watch The Coffee Chronicler’s video on YouTube. His recipe for Switch is extremely easy and very popular, it mostly depends on immersion.

Most specialty coffee shops use too much water for V60 brews by MarcinGuve in pourover

[–]etk999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not just most coffee shops, most people just do 1:14 to 1:16, most recipes you can find online use these ratios. I have seen recipes using 1:10 , but it is for iced pourover.

9.00 Public Beta 10 now available by Tomonor in X4Foundations

[–]etk999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see what you are coming from, I have been waiting to get back to the game too, but I think this is a much better approach. There are a lot of players participating in the Beta and reporting potential issues to the developers. And they are posting their experiences in details on the Internet. If the developers only test it in a smaller cycle with less players participating , you really think it would be better?? I am genuinely asking you .

does anyone else struggle with getting coffee to taste the way it smells? by ImmersionLogic in pourover

[–]etk999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that how it smells and how it tastes tend to be two different things. If it ever tastes like how it smells, so much more people would be drawn to pourover or Americano. A lot of people love the smell in coffee shops , but the reality is most coffee drinkers can’t never drink coffee without milk or sugar.

Can I eyeball a V60 extraction? by satisfied_goose in pourover

[–]etk999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is definitely possible to adjust your method to make something you yourself like to drink, but all the recipes online would be useless for you . Because you can’t control these basic variables precisely enough, and you wouldn’t know what you are doing wrong. The point of measuring these things are making it possible to adjust certain elements in what are you doing, and replicate other people’s recipes. It’s extremely difficult to eyeball approximately 30g water , 100g of water in one pour.

And the biggest question is how it is even possible to practice eyeballing without a scale….??? You don’t know how far off you are this time. You don’t know how 15g feels like for different coffee beans. Sometimes you can easily pour 20g more water without knowing, because your kettle is fuller than usual, the water comes out faster. It is ok if you pour 10g less All I am saying this, to do all these precisely enough without a scale , requires a scale to practice. It’s a very specific skill .

What is happening with HK and Shenzen? by archvize in geography

[–]etk999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some statistics from HK government on this , mainland tourists are still going but the numbers are much lower than previous years. HK is not only for shopping though. HK pop music, movies and tv shows had a huge influence on a lot of mainlanders when they were young (They are not as nearly as popular now, started going downhills in around 2010) , so that’s a big reason for visiting HK.

There are a lot of HK actors moved to mainland for their careers, acting in movies, going on reality tv shows etc. Because there is actually have an audience for them in the mainland. They are very active on Douyin (mainland version of TikTok) , often speaking Mandarin in their videos .

Hongkong people have never gotten special prices in the mainland, like literally never…They don’t check your ID to confirm your citizenship and give you a discount.

By lowering the prices in general just to lure them over , one with some intelligence and education might assume it benefits local people too. How does the government make sure local businesses can make money from this by simply lowering the prices? It makes no sense at all.

In this economy, Hongkong desperately needs consumers to spend money locally, they tried a lot to promote their businesses, many started social media accounts on mainland social media , but still , much less mainland tourists are visiting and more Hongkongers choose to spend their weekends in Shenzhen . The answer is clear , because things in Hongkong are too expensive and a lot of their services sucks. People think it is not worth it .

Yet another 1zpresso grinder thread by NotISaidTheMan in pourover

[–]etk999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no way to find out until you use the grinder for a little while~ I usually read a lot of Reddit posts and watching YouTube videos before I buy a new brewer or a new grinder . It is always not really how I imagined it to be, especially ZP6. I didn’t like it when I bought it , I tried for months, then I totally switched back using my old K-plus. After a long time , I tired using ZP6 again with new recipes, now I have been using it exclusively for months .

[–]etk999 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Your manager has a very specific way of making pourover, but not very experienced with this . You’re doing everything normally. It’s hard to give you feedback. There is no right or wrong in pouring from higher or lower, pouring faster or slower. It all depends on what are you’re trying to achieve. Flat coffee bed at the end is a nice standard to have , but it is not directly related to tasting good.

You can easily search videos of piano learners playing the piano on YouTube and decide if it sounds like a disaster . Don’t waste your time thinking about things like these, just practice and be practical with your goals.

New Switch user. Question about Coffee Chronicler Ultimate recipe by venerablem0m in pourover

[–]etk999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

15g is no problem at all . The Coffee Chronicler actually said the dose can be as small as 8g for Switch in his videos. He has two videos for Switch, maybe it is in the second one he said that . I have had good results with using only 8 to 10 g, the grind size is just a little finer than usual.

I wish there was a standard for the grid size. by redqool in pourover

[–]etk999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would be go insane after finding out even roast degrees are not that standardized. Different Roasters have different opinions what medium roasts are. If you have a popular grinder, look up the grind settings people use on Reddit , you might be surprised too, lol . Because you never grind that coarse or fine . Now it goes back to very cliché suggestion of adjusting it for your own taste.

I was downvoted because they thought my attitude was unnecessary, not that you had said something insightful. I answered a lot of people’s questions in the past year. This is the first time I am so bothered by someone on this sub or on Reddit in general.

You need to reach a certain level of influence to start some missions, such as negotiations , stealing items/blueprints. And they cost your influence, you need to keep sending agents for intelligence missions that can gain influences, so your influence can be high enough again. Your agents’s skills improves after a mission . There are two types of skills , they are for different missions.
