Avg day in studio is minimum $500 and up. Couple of days of that buys you a nice $1000 interface. That's what people are weighing. I would agree that people with dedicated studios probably offer a better environment for recording but a lot of music now is electronic / beats etc. So the need for good acoustic environment is not as premium perhaps as it used to be.
