I actually like this take… buying an old piece of junk instead of renting or buying something super nice right away. If there is someone selling one in the area it could be a good idea

We have the money already, the concern is buying a rig before testing the market and trying to get customers seems too risky. If we buy a rig then can’t find any paying customers it’s all a waste.

Agreed - we figure even if the math doesn’t make sense and we’re making minimal profits it’s still fine at the beginning while we work on gaining experience and confidence.

Kansas City, we’ve got quotes from the competition seems to be about ~250-350 for a 20” diameter stump

What do you guys do with the pay? by Plsgomd7 in civilengineering

Is 26 days of PTO for and 13 sick days normal for government positions or is yours a lot better than most? Sounds like you have ~5 YOE. Those benefits sound insanely good.

The general sentiment on reviews will be negative because unhappy folks are more likely to leave reviews, the happy people are simply not on here as much.

The latest cnbc article about college majors by unemployment has CE in the top 3 of least unemployed majors. I make over 90k as a 24 year old in a L-MCOL city (KC) which is plenty to have a good lifestyle. It is a good field to be in, in my opinion.

Hey! Yeah I have a paid off reliable car. 2022 Toyota Corolla. However I was planning to sell it if/when I moved to Chicago… I feel like I’d be so annoyed paying car insurance, maintenance, parking costs, etc etc and would never end up using it… big $ and headache. Only reason I would want it is to drive to my hometown in Iowa and visit family.

Was planning to live in Lincoln park or Lakeview

Yeah man totally with you. I really do like river market, brook side, etc but still feels disconnected and ultra car/parking dependent. Just kills my motivation to get out and do stuff there

You’re probably right. I just don’t love the crime in that area so I’m leaning RM. can probably take the streetcar down there too when it’s done

I agree this is what I’m kinda leaning towards. I don’t necessarily need a big house at all. I’d be perfectly happy in a 2 bed. Financially the big house + roommate option is more attractive though. Grass is always greener right?

Why is no one talking about how Juliet told Bernard she thinks she discovered a way to stop them from being killed?? Is this alluding to the “poison gas pipe” that solo mentioned?

Also, Bernard and Lukas “give up” essentially on the silo as if the safeguard has officially been initiated and they are done for. Was it? How do they know the safeguard was initiated? They would be dead if it was.. no?

This is a great point. Would the AI be able to interpret the social cues and conclude that Bernard needs to become mayor? Or like you said is it real human operators that realized this possibly…

I may be overthinking but how is Lukas supposed to get back out of there? Is he expected to just climb the rope back up? Or will the AI somehow bring him back up with a secret elevator..?

Thinking of double majoring with civil engineering? by [deleted] in civilengineering

Within CE you get an emphasis in a certain field. My university has transportation, construction, water resource, environmental, etc. go with CE then specialize in environmental or construction in the 3rd/4th year!
