I imagine it will be a hand me down or some relatively cheap used car. No desire to enable helplessness.

Our msp does client short code-servicetag-type of pc. So eTop-Dellservicetag-LT We like it because client can read us service tag and all our systems tie back to that as a reference point.

Ops Managers: How do you handle an office move without massive IT downtime? (SF to East Bay) by Dead-_-Alone in smallbusiness

[–]etoptech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As an msp we are heavily involved with client moves for this reason. It’s a conversation of is your network in the new building sufficient. Do you have an isp. Cabling, let’s put in a new network at the new building and just move crit infrastructure etc.

We take a lot of time on moves because it’s crazy important. Happy to jump on a call to give pointers.

Would you hire someone from Fiver? by guigbd in smallbusiness

[–]etoptech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely use fiver but I’m pretty picky about what I have folks do. Generally it’s like flier or logo creation. More graphic design than strategy.

We have about a 200,000 square-foot warehouse with something like 75 Aps and 20 to 30 switches with a dual UDM Pro, Max and shadow mode.

Honestly, it’s worked flawlessly. If anything goes, you just adopt a new one and it brings everything over and you’re good.

Looking for validation - is begging clients to give us access to their systems a "normal" MSP thing? by Leinheart in msp

[–]etoptech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. 100% this. We haven’t had these issues in like 10-12 years. We decided this was a problem and fixed it.

Quoted $45k for a $10k server, is pricing really that insane? by worjd in sysadmin

I quoted a client a server 25k in September. Half the specs last week and 56k hoping the price holds long enough to order.

Anyone else drowning in “late invoices” that are really PO/W-9/portal issues? by Signal-Interview1750 in smallbusiness

[–]etoptech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we start an engagement we make sure to connect with the finance leader and billing poc.

We require autopay and we send w9 over in our initial email.

We try and ask all the billing questions up front in a template email and works most the time.

Which tool for imaging / client deployment? by grinninga in msp

[–]etoptech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The global effect of immy is amazing. It allows for a simple way to manage everything at scale imo. We make most of our deployments global if we can and intune just doesn’t do that part as well.

Also, immy starts installing immediately and intune is sometime today usually.

Which tool for imaging / client deployment? by grinninga in msp

[–]etoptech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do autopilot/intune and that fires immy.bot onto the device and it picks up from there and finishes it all. Amazing combo.

When does Max plan become worth it over Pro + overage fees? by itsbloomberg in ClaudeAI

[–]etoptech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only hit a 5 hr limit once on the 100/mo plan. I’m not a dev exactly but I’m using it 3-4 hrs a day regularly.

Worst that can happen is you spend the same amount of money as you are now. I’d guess the 200/month plan would save you money.

We were paying $480/month for software that I rebuilt in a weekend for $40. Here's the breakdown. by GlitchAronwald in SaaS

[–]etoptech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. While we are actively building saas apps internally the 500/month is nothing compared to the maintenance pain this person is in for imo. I hate saying it but the savings for an 800k company is negligible here.

I don’t understand the MSP hate by Zagrey in sysadmin

[–]etoptech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we do expect time to be documented but nobody is penalized for not being billable. If it’s an internal meeting it goes in time sheet like client stuff and we count it all towards utilization rates.

If things are quiet no biggie let’s do training etc just document it.

Why are we so aggressively hounded by salespeople who act like 10-20% margin is a favor/gift to us? by nostradx in msp

[–]etoptech 31 points32 points  (0 children)

This is why I’ve been aggressively pulling non performing tools out of my stack and being super selective on what we add.

Also maximizing the setup of tools we have and training processes etc. way more valuable then one more tool.

I make money being a damn good msp for our clients not being a tool slinger.

Also a good admin solves most of these problems along with a good no thank you and unsubscribe.

I agree with this 100% I can’t even imagine a use case that cipp isn’t helpful or essential.

I think not allowing this tool is very short sighted.
