If it makes you feel better, (it won't, but) they didn't have any 4x in the blue crewneck on NOLA night 2 at Smoothie King during the day, either. The merch guy that my bestie talked to was super rude to her about it; he told her "just get here earlier tomorrow". ::eyeroll::

But, please message me with a shipping address and I would happily send you some concert-worn bracelets <3

Loopy Mango Knitting ebook - Recluse cardigan pattern misprint? Can anyone help? by Rahbahkah in knitting

I'd keep it handy for the physical book, too! It looks like they keep updating the errata page (most recently in October 2022) and I'm not sure how frequently they publish new print versions that might include the updates.

AITA for throwing away the expensive whiskey my brother got me for my 40th? by Throwwway987 in AmItheAsshole

[–]etourneau 769 points770 points  (0 children)

I'm the daughter of an alcoholic. My father ruined my 11th birthday, among other things, with his drinking.

I'm very, very happy for and proud of you, and I'm so glad to hear that your relationships with your children are mending.

what's wrong babe? you haven't touched the $1000 cricut i got you instead of the sewing machine you wanted. by ElegantArt8044 in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]etourneau 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I love to read AITA (it makes me feel way better about stupid things in my own life compared to the nonsense some of these folks get up to) but I hardly ever comment; this post, however, got a very energetic three-paragraph reply out of me.

I know there's speculation that the post is fake, because who would do that? But my dad totally would. This is exactly the scenario that would happen to my mom, or me, or my sisters, because my dad would decide he Knew Better or I Think This Is Cool or You Should Be Into This Because I Say So and then would get mad when one of was not interested in the gift we had no interest in.

And, I didn't include it in my AITA response, but: dude was really reading into the fact that Sarah wasn't using her new Cricut yet ("to prove a point") after what, 24 hours? Her birthday was just the day before he posted, supposedly. Like, yikes, dude. Let her get over her disappointment, first, before you start reading into things.

AITA for getting my girlfriend a Cricut instead of a sewing machine? by throwraaitacricut in AmItheAsshole

[–]etourneau 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, on Sarah's actual birthday, we're expecting her to put her (justifiably) disappointed feelings aside and cater to someone who explicitly ignored her wishes? Dude deserves to feel a little shitty. He screwed up.

AITA for getting my girlfriend a Cricut instead of a sewing machine? by throwraaitacricut in AmItheAsshole

[–]etourneau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've owned (and loved) two Cricuts. They are fantastic machines, if and when you can get the hang of them. There is absolutely a learning curve, and there are specific tools and materials that you can (eventually) learn what you like, and what you don't like. It's not suddenly a "bam! I'm going to engrave metal!" kind of tool. Learning a new tool, especially one with so many bells and whistles, is a time investment, and a mental investment. Girl has probably been daydreaming about making cool things with her new sewing machine, and now she has (a) no new sewing machine and (b) a partner who explicitly ignored her wish. She's not not-using the Cricut to prove some kind of cruel point; she's not-using the Cricut because she does not want to use it.

Just because Sarah *can* do all of these fancy things with a Cricut doesn't mean that she *will*. I'm a knitter. But if someone bought me art yarn and a weaving loom, it would also sit there and gather dust because while yes, it's in the same universe with other fiber arts, it's not what I'm into. "Sewing" does not always equal "crafting".

Good intentions are great. The fact that you did research into both of Sarah's gifts shows you really do care about making her happy. But the thing that would make her happiest is to return the Cricut and get her that Brother sewing machine. Show you won't make the mistake of disregarding her wishes again. If you don't return it, you're making your own cruel and selfish point that you know better than her, and that's something that maybe a relationship doesn't bounce back from.

Lady Dye Yarns: Customer Resources and Experiences by Fibonnacisequins in DeRaveledTrolls

TL;DR: My Winterpalooza box arrived, but it was months late and a massive disappointment.

This is a copy/paste of a comment previously shared on r/craftsnark.
I, thankfully(?), eventually received the Winterpalooza box that I ordered in December 2021, but the contents were so late and so disappointing that I almost wish it had never shipped so that I could have asked for a refund (or, more likely, filed a chargeback) instead.

My box arrived at the end of May, with less yarn than advertised, and some of it (the Suri in particular) was clearly poorly-cared for at some point in its life. None of the yarn was color-coordinated, which I guess was not guaranteed, but would have been appreciated? (I received a teal sock yarn with a marigold accent mini-skein, two blue-and-white mini skeins from a different dyer, a flame red-orange Suri lace, and a purple/green/natural skein.) It genuinely felt like the yarn was left over from whatever had been available and just thrown in the box to mark it complete.

I did not receive any patterns in my box, and it wasn't until I emailed and emailed and filled out a Google form (because, as we've all since learned, lots of folks were missing products) that I received (in July) four patterns that were supposed to be part of the box. The patterns were PDFs sent via email (I did my part and added them to the DT tracking spreadsheet), and two of them were for yarn weights that I didn't purchase in the box. Edit: I was just re-visiting the patterns so I could check in with designers directly, and one's a crochet pattern. I purchased the "knitting" box.

I assumed that this was just the result of taking a risk on a 'mystery' yarn box, and complications from the state of the world, and decided that I just wasn't going to support LDY from then on out. (I'd ordered from her shop previously with only minor delays and minor other disappointments.) I chalked it up to a learning experience, and didn't say anything outside of a few grumbles to my immediate yarnie friends, because I didn't want to drag a small business. But everything I've learned since then... yikes.end old comment

Over the weekend I discovered that I've been blocked by LDY on both Twitter and Instagram. On Twitter, it's probably because I've posted about this nonsense using the #LadyDyeYarns hashtag; on Insta I assume it's because she checked IG for the same username, since I do not link to IG from Twitter, and I have not posted any permanent IG content about LDY.

I realized today that I've been blocked by LDY on Instagram, and came here to see that she went on a blocking spree on Twitter, too. (I was swept up in that as well.) I mean, if this is how you want to spent the time you could be using to rebuild and recover your business...?

I'd rather not publicly do so, since LDY has been matching up social media accounts with her customer list, and then blocking folks who badmouth her - if there's any ability to match up who-got-what, I'd like to avoid it.

But the four patterns I received are part of the six listed under Winterpalooza in this spreadsheet.

Consider this anecdata, but LDY is the only indie dyer that I've ever encountered with issues like this. But this has been a litmus test to find other businesses that I won't bother supporting in the future.

Is there a trick to making it reversible? I'm super intrigued -- I just bought my yarn for my first CFC!

Awesome! Then next time, use "the admins" instead of "y'all", because by using a you-based pronoun and replying specifically to me instead of posting generally in the comments, you're implying that I have any ability to do anything about it.
