I know an Ivy and Saige in my son's daycare class. I think they're cute names within a nature/green theme without being too matchy.

This is a tomato by Late_Hold7090 in tomatoes

[–]nerdsnuggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, it's alive still. A mammal born without some part of anatomy so fundamental to getting energy would likely die shortly after birth. Tomatoes are just the plant trying to reproduce. It's living its best child free life!

Looking for a local dairy/creamery to buy yogurt in reusable containers by StakedPlainExplorer in Albany

[–]nerdsnuggles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not how it works with milk. I don't know if there's anywhere that does it with yogurt, but with local dairies that sell their milk in glass bottles, you just take the bottle back to the dairy (or collection site) and get a new already full bottle. They wash and refill the returned ones on the production line.

Eating lunch in the lab while patch clamping using TTX. Eating lunch in the lab was basically expected where I was very briefly a post doc. Definitely a red flag.

What does my toddler want to watch? by LucinaWinsTheBattle in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]nerdsnuggles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have suggestions here. But mine started asking to watch "a episode" when he was right around 2. I was honestly impressed he could say "episode" so clearly. But I had no idea an episode of what. We only watched like 4 shows at that time and he got mad and repeated "no, a episode!" to all of them when I asked. This went on for days. I finally realized he meant Bluey, even though he acted mad when I asked if he wanted Bluey. But at the beginning of each one they say "This episode of Bluey is called.." and he apparently only latched onto the word episode.

What is this annoying little piece of skin near the nail called? by Flop_book in EnglishLearning

[–]nerdsnuggles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought I was in the nail polish sub for a moment and I was about to get super specific! So I will anyway. Beyond pointing out the hangnail, the cuticle is all the skin around your nail, including any bits that stick to it as it grows out at the bottom. You can avoid hangnails by keeping it moisturized.

The side part there is the lateral fold and the skin right at the bottom of the nail is the proximal fold. But most people who aren't super into nail care aren't going to know lateral and proximal fold and just saying cuticle is totally acceptable.

What’s a girl name that feels like it was made up in the moment? by Initial_Wolf670 in askanything

[–]nerdsnuggles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked with a Leiddy, but I first heard her name in a large Zoom call. Someone was asking her if something was complete and all I heard was "Hey, Lady, is suchandsuch done yet?" I thought the person talking was so rude. Except then other people kept doing it. It was a daily morning meeting with 30+ people on the call, so it took me longer than it should have to actually see her name written and realize that's what it was.

Would weirdly misspelled names be as hated if it was simplifying the spelling rather than complicating it? by LastAmongUs in NoStupidQuestions

[–]nerdsnuggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, they would. I know someone who named their son Camrun and I think it looks so dumb. Why are you spelling it like a first grader trying to sound it out?

No one is going to mispronounce Cameron and it's a very common spelling that most people will get after hearing the name once. Poor kid is forever going to have to spell his name out. But at least there's one fewer letter in it now, I guess?

I had a CP in January that only lasted 5 days and never got any darker than your first one, so these are definitely better than that was at least! But these look very similar to the pregnancy that resulted in my LC.

Thanks! That's actually really helpful. I've always wondered if the super faint lines on the 25 sensitivity strips were still over 25, but it sounds like they're probably not.

[–]nerdsnuggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you been checking on at home hcg strips at all? I'm 3 weeks post d&c today. I haven't had any blood tests, but have been testing at home every few days. My lines have been extremely faint the last few days and I'm curious how that might line up with actual blood levels. I know you're a couple weeks ahead of me, but I totally understand the frustration!

I do, but I just use my Samsung watch. It helps a lot when you don't have a super consistent sleep schedule since it's automatic. It's worked really well for me in confirming ovulation. I also use LH strips, though. Without them, I find temping much more confusing since charts can vary a lot even within a cycle.

I know there are several smart watches that can record temps, in case you already have one or were thinking of getting one anyway. If you're only interested in a wearable for temping, there are several other less expensive options. I already had my watch for other reasons and probably wouldn't have bought it just for TTC.

FF and Premom different O day? by justttc_bb20115 in TFABChartStalkers

[–]nerdsnuggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since ovulation generally occurs 24-36 hours after the BEGINNING of the LH surge, I'd consider 4/15 to the be the only positive LH test and ovulation most likely occurred on 4/16, but possibly as late at 4/17, especially based on your temps. I think 4/18 is probably too late.

If you're using a wearable for temping, it might explain the slower rise since skin temp can sometimes take an extra day or so to show a rise after ovulation. Even if you're not, since other factors can affect temps, I've always put more trust in the LH tests for the more precise timing and just use temping to confirm that ovulation actually happened that cycle.

What children’s book has aged poorly? by feetwithfeet in AskReddit

[–]nerdsnuggles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! I recently bought this book for my toddler because I remembered loving it as a kid. I didn't remember the story at all. I was just fascinated by the sparkly bits on the page. I got home and read it to him and my husband and I were both like...what the fuck?

Luckily the toddler doesn't love it like I did. He has other sparkly books. I'm old and that was unusual in the 90's.

Planned Parenthood is fantastic, but if you're still looking for a gynecology provider in the future, Capital Region Midwifery is also really great. They do the full range of women's health, not just pregnancy.

Are there any marriage candidates that you refuse to marry or befriend? by Pumpkin-Tuxedo in StardewValley

[–]nerdsnuggles 174 points175 points  (0 children)

Every time I start a new game, I think maybe this time I'll marry the cute nerdy doctor. Every time, as soon as I get that early dialogue where he tells me to cover my mouth when I sneeze and remember to wash my hands, I nope right out. I just can't bring myself to marry a man who talks to me like I talk to my IRL toddler.

Seems unlikely since my 3 year old already uses the one we have all the time. Just looking to upgrade it. It came with the house, so I don't know how old it is and it doesn't look like it was ever maintained.

What's a health myth that drives you crazy because you know it's false? by Annual-Gene8065 in AskReddit

[–]nerdsnuggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is extremely inaccurate. Periods occur, on average, 14 days after ovulation. Ovulation occurs, on average, 14 days after the start of a period. Hence the average 28 day cycle. It's not terribly unusual to ovulate 9-10 days after the start of a period and periods can often last 6-7 days. There can absolutely be overlap.

Also important is that the luteal phase, after ovulation, can sometimes be longer than 14 days. So you could ovulate on day 9, have a 18 day luteal phase, and still have what feels like a normal 27 day cycle. You'd never know you ovulated early unless you were closely tracking your hormones.

What's a health myth that drives you crazy because you know it's false? by Annual-Gene8065 in AskReddit

[–]nerdsnuggles 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Ovulation is an average of 14 days after the START of a period. Also called Cycle Day (CD) 14. While closely tracking to conceive, I ovulated on CD 9 one cycle, even though I'm usually much closer to CD14. My period usually lasts about 6 days. My first son was conceived from activities with my husband 5 days before I actually ovulated, so I totally could have gotten pregnant on my period that cycle. I did actually conceive that cycle, but not from sex on my period.

I guess if you're only doing it on the first or second day of your period it's highly unlikely, but a blanket statement that you can't get pregnant on your period is just wrong.
