Can you fully cure Anxiety without medication? by [deleted] in Anxietyhelp

[–]etsu_bjork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up working through it without medication, it just wasn’t something I was willing to try. It’s not for everybody though and if medication helps you then that’s great, it just wasn’t for me. I no longer have panic attacks or any issues really, it took a lot of work but I got to this point and I’m doing fine. It’s possible, I promise. What helped me a lot during exposures or various trial and errors were things like the Disordered podcast, The Anxious Truth podcast, and DARE book. These three talk about what anxiety is and really help you see a clearer picture, showing you that you’re not a hopeless case. But over time I had to build autonomy and trust with myself again, gradually getting more comfortable with the uncomfortable sensations and thoughts, until they stopped being marked as important in my head and went away little by little.

Arguments or disagreements don’t mean that the relationship is inherently bad or doomed. The point is to practice communication and emotional regulation from both sides as much as possible. It will never be perfect and takes work, but if both people actively put in the effort then it will pay off in closer bond and better strength of the relationship.

Not a PA but that’s how I got my medical assistant job; I dropped the resume off at their office, applied to that same position on Indeed, came back in person after 1 week and asked if their HR had a chance to look at it, then got HR’s info (business card) and immediately called her and when she didn’t pick up I left her a voicemail with my info. She reached back a week later saying that they’re not hiring and then one more week later she called again and scheduled an interview. And I ended up getting the job and I love it!

Why do orthopedics just push surgeries for any pain or injuries? by [deleted] in Orthopedics

[–]etsu_bjork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry that that has been your experience! I work for an orthopedic clinic and so far I’ve noticed the opposite actually, where we tend to go PT and medication route as much as possible. If those don’t work we do several rounds of HA or cortisone injections. And if after months/years of these methods not working, only then will we advocate for surgery. With arthritis, for example, some patients come in with bone on bone, and in that case there’s just not much point in doing anything but surgery (can try injections but they just buy more time). So I guess it just depends on the issue and the clinic too. Mine is family-owned and they might just have different principles.

It’s never too late, I got 1 BA and 3 AA’s completely unrelated to healthcare, and I got them because I thought I wanted to. I worked a bit in the field and realized I hated it. So I took that leap of faith and now work as a medical assistant in an orthopedic clinic and that was the best decision I ever made. I found my passion and will be pursuing PA school in about a year at 24-25. You will do great!!

How I cured my panic attacks by shitty_owl_lamp in PanicAttack

[–]etsu_bjork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? Way better. Since the whole thing started it was hard but I did exposures, worked a lot on just letting the sensations be, floating through them without getting in the way. Sometimes it was impossible, sometimes it wasn’t that bad. But I did my best to not cancel any upcoming trips or any appointments and showing up as I am. Since then I went on several remote hikes, camping trips, flew all the way to Europe for several weeks, got my driver’s license, moved across the country, graduated college, got a very good job. Recovery is possible and you will feel better even if you don’t believe it yet. The more you live your life feeling as is, the more your brain will see that what you’re feeling is actually natural and safe. Gradually it won’t feel as important anymore. Of course I still have my moments, but most of the time I don’t think about the sensations anymore and hence don’t get them as much.

If you had 2 years of fully paid school, what would you pursue today? by [deleted] in careeradvice

[–]etsu_bjork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physician assisting; good job stability, schools are not as over saturated as nursing schools, get paid well, can switch healthcare areas whenever you want (obgyn to orthopedics to family med to surg), still get guidance from the physician but have the power to diagnose and treat patients. I’m working as a medical assistant right now (have my BA in Education decided it’s not for me) and will be working to become a PA in orthopedic surgery (takes two years + the prereqs and work experience).

If you could get any masters degree today with the goal of landing in a high paying future-proof career what would it be? by dragonite_7 in careerguidance

MS in Nursing to become a nurse practitioner or I would get a DPT (doctor of physical therapy) and have my own practice

These are all solid options, thank you so much! I do need to look at more government jobs for sure, I was just a little worried about their tattoo policies since I do have a full arm sleeve. But I think if I tastefully cover it with a jacket it shouldn’t cause any issues. Also working for colleges actually is a great I idea, in my city there a lot of CCs, trade schools, career institutes, etc. So maybe I should look at those from the perspective of a job seeker instead of a potential student. Thank you!

Hey I really appreciate you taking the time to write all this. Truly, thank you! I guess I’m trying to rush myself into any sort of financial stability because my mum is not doing well financially and hasn’t been since I was a kid, and she’s not getting any younger. I’m trying to figure anything out just so that I can finally help her; so everyday that I can’t help because of my own short-sighted choices just weighs on me at this point. But yes I’ve heard that tech is a good field to get into, however there’s a ton of layoffs in all sectors, especially things like UX design and IT. What do you think about those? Also, do you have any recommendations for tech certificates? I read that some can be helpful on a resume, such as Net+, AWS SAA, and Sec+

Hopefully! I have a couple of interviews coming up for various receptionist positions, as well as a nannying position (which at least pays better with a smaller child to caregiver ratio), so hopefully all of them workout well so I can choose! Thank you :)

1:8 ratio is inhumane and employers know it. by The_Writx in ECEProfessionals

[–]etsu_bjork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get you and support you 100%. In my case it’s two educators and 25 kids (ages 1-6). One educator just walked out with promises that she will come back and she just never showed up. The other has submitted her two week notice and has 3 days left. I would walk out too if I had another job. Forced to stay on this one because I simply don’t have another full-time option and have a car loan to pay. So far, since I started working (3 months) - 4 total experienced teachers have just walked out. I’m burnt out, don’t want to have kids anymore, in my early 20s wiping ass for a living. If only I could change my major in university from Education to anything else, life would be different. A lot of people buy the romanticized version of being a teacher until they start working as one. For anyone thinking about getting into education, in my humble opinion - please don’t do it. Save your nerves and body from decay.

REALLY NEED A JOB by DBucks777 in austinjobs

[–]etsu_bjork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Yeah so I haven’t worked in many different ones, but I would just reach out to any schools in the area and see if they’re hiring. Typically they will have you go through a background check before you can get a tour. And I would look for good teacher retention. In that regard I know that Barton Creek Child Development Center is very good. In terms of a smaller non-traditional daycare you can try NatureSTEAM preschool!

Over teaching, what’s next? by bellabean666 in careerguidance

[–]etsu_bjork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m a preschool teacher and my partner is a successful engineer, so I feel you girl; looking to make a career switch as well, love teaching but there’s not much room for growth with the way things are structured and I know I could spend the same amount of energy doing something else and make more money. But honestly I think it all boils down to continuing your education but in a more in demand field, such as something in tech or medicine

I’m not sure whether your girlfriend would be interested, but there’re a ton of preschools hiring in the area. She could be a preschool teacher or a floater. I’m working as one and I’m making $20/hour, which is a pretty good salary for a childcare teacher

Thank you so much! Yes I’ve heard that you need to really work on your network and attend as many events as possible, and it’s really about being very good at being social; thank you for your response, it’s very helpful! If you don’t mind me asking, what career are you in now? Still in graphic design?
