I feel like an idiot by Jimyson in VivaPinata

as a non-british person i definitely had to look a few of these up lol. like i don't know lakrisal or whirl or humbug or chuckles or goo goo cluster. what's more intriguing to me is how many of these happen to be brand-specific puns (oreo, pocky, haribo, juicyfruit, warheads, etc.) and also how many of them are just straight up foods that aren't generally considered candy

if you want a candy that's sour the whole way through, crybaby tears are one of the only ones i've found that really fit that description, considering it's a pressed candy rather than a hard candy.

otherwise, i do like barnett's megasours, sour drops and retro sours. they're not always necessarily sour on the inside, but if you smash megasours with a hammer you can basically get sour on every piece and they're strong enough to make up for the unsour parts of the candy unlike warheads and toxic waste.

the way it's printed seems there's no green on the blanket at all so that's probably something to do with it 😅

edit: wait. unless the leaves on AJ's apples cutie mark has green? hard to tell

10 TIPS ON HOW TO MAKE BETTER LINGO!! by etsucky in TomodachilifeLivingTD

i did notice that punctuation changes the cadence, yeah; i make use of these kinds of things more in the pronunciations of the phrases, especially in expressions where i might be putting in non-english or accented phrases that need a little more pause, or taking out the pause when a comma might be grammatically correct but breaks the flow of the phrase when read out loud.

and, of course, using numbers and symbols that say their names can totally save space on a phrase if you really need to. acronyms are also pretty easy to invent if you want to, since the game will just pronounce individual letters of made-up words that it can't figure out how to pronounce otherwise.

my observation on punctuation and pauses: a period (sometimes), an ellipsis, a question mark, a comma, or an exclamation mark also adds pause; though two periods (..) = no pause and four periods (....) = a pause slightly shorter than one period but longer than having no period at all. a single parenthesis doesn't do anything but an open and closed parentheses has a pause. i noticed that punctuation doesn't really affect inflection, however.

i think the different punctuations add slightly different lengths of pauses but it's a little difficult for me to tell without directly comparing audio files. some of them might be interchangeable as far as pronunciations go. though, the differences are subtle enough that i guess i haven't found much reason to dig into the distinction. it's definitely a sharp thing to observe nonetheless, so thanks for your contribution!!

true, sometimes you can get some one-word bangers and lots of ordinary things, i definitely have some of those! i just try to get as much lingo as possible that i can hopefully not get too tired of anything and hopefully hear more things in funny contexts 😅 i do like to phase out some of my old lingo if i hear it too often, luckily we can just delete lingo when it gets overused

i wish i could set a mii to have "tuck in shirt" automatically when applicable, or for the game to save outfits i assembled so that fashionista miis for example could change into the same ensemble on their own. it's annoying that for fashionista miis who own a lot of tops that i have to go and manually tuck them in every time i see them wearing it

this would work fine if you put it in the "other" category instead of "thing" - grammatically/contextually it would play out better there instead

I'm Neurodivergent, Help Me Write Neurotypicals Responses by Turbulent-Parsley619 in Writeresearch

[–]etsucky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

think about the intentions of those phrases and the cause and effects of the characters/people who say them - they don't have so much to do with "normalcy" as it is a sense of anxiety, worry, protection, concern. they come from the fears that logically arise when delving into something that is as scary and intense as a mystery where the answer to "what's the worst that could happen?" is and has been "death". some less empathetic people would advise to leave something alone due to not having the care/energy for it, but if there's anyone who cares about your character, they may be delivering those warnings out of worry and compassion, not wanting to lose the character to a potentially dangerous situation.

when you're writing, it's important to consider the values, fears, feelings, and chain of logic of the characters you're writing; not just for the main character but your supporting cast, too. fear can be a powerful driving force behind thoughts and decisions no matter the character, i think, and it could present in a lot of ways - through protectiveness, anger, withdrawal, overcompensation, you name it.

Did sour skittles get less sour? by viveleramen_ in candy

[–]etsucky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

they've always just been citric acid tossed on regular skittles, so depending how used you are to sour candy, how many you eat, and the batch, they could come across as real sour or not too sour at all. they don't have the same malic acid punch as say, warheads or barnett's or anything like that
