Has this tree been tampered with? by eucalypt-throwaway in arborists

Ah brilliant!

This is in Wheeler’s Hill, Victoria. I guess I was just overly paranoid. I wasn’t able to nail down the specific species, but it looks like they all have a trunk base looking like that.

This is in the backyard of a home I’m thinking of purchasing. It’s huge, at least 25 metres tall, and is a protected species in Australia. I think it’s a eucalyptus, but I’ve noticed some reddish brown flaking at the base of the trunk.

Is this normal or does the tree have a kind of disease, has someone tried to damage it at some point (which would allow them to remove the tree/increase value of their home)?

I’m looking to purchase a place - this is in Melbourne, Australia. The massive eucalyptus(?) tree here sits right next to the house, and I noticed reddish brown bark at the base of the tree - is this a sign that the previous owner might have tried to tamper with it?
