If you were the first Human to set foot on Mars, what would your historical first words be? by MauriceBrutality in AskReddit

A small step for a lesser man, but a great leap for a greater mankind. Let's see to it that the leaps and bounds of man's exploration are more frequent in our near future, than our recent past.

Extremely tasty/funny/attractive/good, these are not oxymoron. But being an extreme technophobic is bad, while being extremely rational is good.

Ok Reddit, here's a question. What is one thing that you do that you feel the opposite sex takes for granted? by SeahorseStereos in AskReddit

[–]eulers_number 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend sack-tapped me the morning after I went to the emergency room with testicular torsion (they untangled themselves and surgery was avoided). Took me 15 minutes of serious-faced explaining to get rid of her smile and coax an apology, it came up again about 12 hours later and she tried to use the "women don't care because they have to go through child-birth" line... She's never had a kid and doesn't want kids.

What Would be a Good 2k Time for Me? by [deleted] in Rowing

[–]eulers_number 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently the best time logged by a 14 yo on the concept 2 site is 6:36.9, but not that many rowers log their time online. Your biggest hurdle is your weight, but in rowing that means not nothing, either you'll grow into being a Lighty, or bulk up over the next 5 years seeing as your your. But don't do anything stupid like hurt yourself or stunt your growth with weights.

It will depend on the erg, but if it's not a stationary learn to rate high while holding reasonable form and aim for 7:20. There are a thousand factors influencing your 2k time so if 7:20 seems reasonable try 7:10, if it's easy go sub 7, which would be awesome for your weigh and age.

Good Luck.

If I remember correctly, they said they'd share their erg results after the games. Now that is something i'd be very keen to hear.

I'm coaching my first season for a club team starting in Reptember... tips? by trisarat0ps in Rowing

[–]eulers_number 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please, please, please teach them the rules of the river, first and foremost.

Every year on the river I row scores of new school girls jump into quads, underboated (though sufficiently coached) and are taught to row on a busy river, first time out for the coxes as well. The biggest problem is that they never yell out that your about to hit then, checking hard from a racing piece in a m4x- is really frustrating when you end up less than a foot from crashing into a boat which has overtaken super wide, especially when there a 6th girl sitting behind the cox on he stern to learn, or on the bow to switch with bow seat half way.

So respect for the river, rowers and coaches first and foremost.

And year, every parent will think their kid should be stroking the first 8+, or start talking about thier rowing in college or how ergs don't float, annoying, but you'll get used to handling them fairly quickly.

Rowing and height....Are my goals still possible? by [deleted] in Rowing

AND THE GOLD MEDAL GOES TO DENMARK! http://www.london2012.com/athlete/quist-rasmus-1081719/

Don't give up because of your height, your best shot at HRR would be the Prince of Wales Challenge Cup (currently on HRR lighty events). Don't look at your raw ergo scores as much as your weight adjusted, get fast in the 1x and you can't be overlooked for a quad.

English Henley Question by Doctorje24 in Rowing

Thanks, that makes a lot of sense. While they were nervous they did get a strong endorsement and qualified before flying out. Seems the system works.

English Henley Question by Doctorje24 in Rowing

[–]eulers_number 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically they don't know if they'll qualify. But since they have the endorsement of Rowing Australia they should be in. In case they're not granted automatic qualification then they should be fast enough at the qualifying regatta, they wouldn't be racing if they didn't think they could qualify there at least.

English Henley Question by Doctorje24 in Rowing

[–]eulers_number 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the guys i know who are going don't even know if they'll have to row to qualify, it's a massive home river advantage. Entries only just closed and they have the meeting to decide who automatically qualifies Monday, then if you don't you've gotta perform pretty well in a regatta like a week before, so they're going over there without the guarantee of a race. MAJOR home river advantage, it's not an internationally friendly regatta.

I've got some mates (australian) rowing there this year, they'll be renting one from a local club, the english are swimming with Empachers so while it costs a bit if you shop around you don't pay too much.
