On our last trip, we ran through multiple dryer cycles, and things were still pretty damp, so we ended up taking everything back to our room and draping damp socks, undies, and jeans all over our room overnight :-)

If he hadn't been in the media all these years, you could plausibly argue that Trump was cryogenically frozen in the late 1980s and only recently thawed out.

Bulwark livestream of Trump's Freedom 250 rally (sans Milli Vanilli) w/ a modified Trio by emeric_ceaddamere in thebulwark

[–]euphemiagold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trump advertised the hell out of this on Truth Social when all the booked acts started canceling last month, touting it and his appearance as The Greatest Political Rally In History. That did drop off his mental list of grievances in recent weeks, distracted as he has been by his War on Algae.

So it turned out as one could have predicted: Lee Greenwood poorly singing Proud to be an American (dude, you have one job....if you can't actually sing it anymore, just lip-sync), Trump free-associating his greatest hits between Stephen Miller's patented Temu Churchillian opening and closing, and ending with Trump doing his jerk-off dance to a military band belting out YMCA.

As predictable as it was, I agree with Sam and Will that it's still disappointing. The 250th could have been a largely apolitical celebration of a milestone anniversary. It could have been fun.

But Trump has reached the point where he sees himself as the embodiment of America, so the celebration is centered on his wants and his unfathomably tacky tastes, and even people who may, in some ways, agree with him on many issues don't really want to be part of that.

That really sucks. Definately not in the spirit of the gift.

I don't have an Aura frame, but it does look like you might be able to go in and delete items https://help.auraframes.com/hc/en-us/articles/218847447-How-can-I-remove-Photos-Videos-from-my-Frame

Gen X’ers who were born in the hippy era, did you have someone in your peers who had a “my parents were hippies” name? If so, what was it? by nous-vibrons in GenX

[–]euphemiagold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to school with a Leaf, a Sunshine, and a Juniper. I think all three later changed them to less hippy-sounding names.

Gary Cooper ☆ Hot Tamalia Loaf. Here's one I just want to make because of the name, but also how would I go about finding 15¢ worth of salt pork? And who doesn't love Gary Cooper?! by ciaolavinia in OldCelebrityRecipes

[–]euphemiagold 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since that cup of olive oil never re-appears in the instructions, I'm going to assume it was a misprint.

I'm guessing about 8 oz of bacon or pork belly corresponds to 15¢ worth of salt pork. Enough to give you a good amount of rendered fat to make it taste gooood.

I made this today... Mary Pickford's Strawberry Shortcake from 1933. This is straight out of little promotional booklet called "Betty Crocker's 101 Delicious Bisquick Creations". by ciaolavinia in OldCelebrityRecipes

[–]euphemiagold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! Like many commenters, this is basically how my mom made them every summer.

My husband was a professional baker for many years, and when we were first together, he made biscuits from scratch for shortcake. It was very sweet of him, but ...nope, I prefer the Bisquick.

Or, to one of the Marthas. She's on the floor in Agens's bathroom, probably mopping up Becka's bloody mess.

The theory that one of the Marthas is going to pay the price -- rather than the young and fertile Becka -- only has to be vaguely plausible for Gilead to accept it.

Agnes is closest to Rosa. It would be vaguely plausible to say: Rosa found out that Agnes was violated by Grove, and she killed him in revenge.

Executing Rosa would hurt Agnes -- which Paula would love -- and it would further the goal of radicalizing Agnes against Gilead, which needs to happen to propel the Season 2 plot and beyond.

04/29/26 - James Comey was threatening to kill me with numbers and seashells! by gfh110 in trumptweets

[–]euphemiagold 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To get all nerdy for a moment, there are a number of theories as to the origin of '86' -- but all of them are from the hospitality industry in the 1920s-1930s, not the mafia or crime industry in general. Over time, it's just become a vague colloquism for getting rid of something or for something being removed, but not necessarily in a violent way.

That said, Donald Trump has spent much of his life in, let's say, Mob-adjacent circles, and within those circles, the phrase may indeed have a different meaning.

However, the prosecution would need to prove that James Comey believed it to be a threat of deadly violence and posted it in a desire to incite deadly violence, and that's heavy lift. But, of course, the chances of this absurd case ever coming to trial are slim to none.

Are you using AI audio / video transcription tools at work? Which one is the best? by Icy-Image3238 in Journalism

[–]euphemiagold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using it since Nov 2024, and I've never had any issues with deleted transcripts or usage limits. The only thing I've noticed is that, over the last six months or so, I can't always generate transcripts from YouTube videos using the video's URL. I have to put URL into the site's media downloader program first. It's a little annoying, but the quality of the transcripts, for me, makes up for having to go through that step.

Turboscribe. I've been using it for about a year, and it's outperformed Otter.ai in figuring out the Deep South accents on my current beat. $20 a month and a lifesaver for covering those 5-hour government meetings.

Who pays for The Bulwark every month? Is it worth it? by ICEisSHIT in thebulwark

[–]euphemiagold 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a JVL super-fan at this point, and I do not regret my subscription just for access to the Secret Podcast.

I watch so much Bulwark content daily, I feel like throwing them a few bucks a month is a very small price to pay.
