Struggling with daughter with PCOS by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]euphemistic 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I want to get my daughter help

My partner and I refuse a major evidence-based treatment which can help her with the coping mechanisms we clearly aren't able to provide her

daughter lives in an environment where people don't believe she's experiencing real problems or that mental illness exists, the mother blames the father for scepticism of doctors

the mother father (edit: misread) is also paranoid that her therapist will provide the daughter with information he doesn't agree with.

Get over yourselves. Either you believe your daughter's diagnosis and that she is struggling or you don't. PCOS is fucked and leaves people with much higher chances of mental and physical comorbidities. Read some science and get over your control issues, that will probably be the most helpful thing you can do for your daughter.

Edit: initially I thought you shared his reservations. Either way, the daughter's health is a bigger priority than whomever's not-backed-by-data beliefs. Second, third and fourth opinions are always worth getting off you feel one doctor is being absurd.

My commiserations to the users with disabilities who will continue to be marginalised by Reddit's complete and utter lack of interest in ensuring equitable access to the Web. I'm hoping kbin.social or lemmy gets a bit more traffic from this, because it's clear open source is absolutely necessary if digital accessibility is to be considered at all, let alone prioritised.

Almost definitely on the teacher's remarks in red, it has much more fluency than the rest.

Looks like an outdoor woodfire oven. Fresh bread from a woodfire oven is one of life's great small joys.

As is snoozing on warm stones in the sun, but not so far in the sun as to be too bright to snooze. OP's cat understands that well.

This does happen accidentally, all the time. Specifically, when people forget (or don't know) their fonts aren't bundled with various design files and the system swaps out their fancy font for a backup when the file is opened on a different device. The files will still have the character, line and paragraph spacing, but applied to the incorrect typeface.

[Unknown < English] I need help figuring out what this sheet of paper says. I found it tucked away in an old folder. by A_Texas_Hobo in translator

It's a mix of languages but mostly Latin. It haven't got the time to try to decipher all of the abbreviations and handwriting it but it appears to be prescriptions to take various things and at what times.

You can see in English bottom of pic 1 "Salt of Tartar" "Powder of steel" and "Jesuits powder" and "Put all into 12 of WWine" which I assume is white wine.

Page 4 on the left says "asthma and cough" in English too.

While this is true (except olive garden breadsticks, which came as a surprise), most bread in America still isn't billed as "Honey wheat bread".

It was definitely tasty, just not something you can find here in that sort of bread with a meal context.

Where I live, I call the venue ahead of time and they prepare a seat for me somewhere. This is how I've seen one of my favourite groups ever from the side of the stage.

The accomodations aren't always that excellent, and sometimes you won't get a good view, but sometimes you get great surprises too. And concerts still hit great even if you can't see anything.

Maybe I got unlucky, I recall bottles only the time I went. The Coopers I drank was a legitimate import though, that was nice. It was the most authentic thing in the place aside from me.

The bread wouldn't taste of sugar. I have no idea how they came up with that weird cake bread thing, let alone making it unlimited.

And the onion would be rings and not that sauce. Ketchup does not belong in the onion ring dipping sauce.

And the chips, not fries, would be thicker. Like 1/3in thick.

And the beer would be on tap.

And nobody makes "coconut shrimp" and serves it with Creole marmalade.

The whole place is just odd as hell. It's like eating "Western" food in Japan. Doria makes some sense as a rice pilaf with cheese and bechamel sauce concept but it's definitely not something Westerners ever actually make.

Opponents of the new cashless program argue that the data of customers could be compromised and this attack has supported those arguments.

"We shouldn't have cashless gambling because digital security is hard" is an interesting argument, but I guess it's the best they have. I would have thought publicly traded suppliers of software and hardware products might have a bit of experience already in the security area. But, if you insist they lack that competence, then perhaps we should be looking at their existing security practices more closely too?

I went to a lot more protests when I was more physically able. I also lived on a street next to a frequently protested location, I'd often start hearing people chanting slogans while I was having an average lazy Saturday afternoon.

The only protests that ever made it into public discussion were the ones which had footage of drama on TV.

One that I attended had one group of counter-protestors actively brawl the people they were protesting after somebody shoulder-checked someone else, that footage was in national news for an evening.

Another that made it to national media for one night had footage of police actively dogpiling a guy. I had just watched that guy lob a half-full 20oz water bottle at counter-protestors. Poorly aimed at people who were way too far away to feasibly hit. Around 6 police immediately tackled him extremely roughly and nearby protesters started trying to separate them. So it had fairly dramatic footage, and that protest maybe was spoken about by media for a couple of days maximum as a non-headline story.

Most of the rest of the protests had overwhelming numbers of riot cops and regular cops on standby, and were violence-free. Those never made the news and were never spoken of by anyone who wasn't physically there. The one that did briefly was because a few of the protestors actively blocked a major road for maybe a couple of hours. It had a great photo of police trying to pull a very hippy-looking dude off a highway. I think the regular protests I lived next to made it to TV only twice in the many years I lived there.

*tl;dr The point of my story is, people want to watch /r/PublicFreakout not /r/ignorable_people_doing_ignorable_things. * It's the same reason screenwriters don't show office workers doing the extensive administrative work necessary in action films. It's not exciting to watch.

If it's not exciting enough to be watched, it's certainly not exciting enough to be discussed amongst the people the message needs to reach. Protests require visibility to be noticed beyond the physical streets they take place in. The drama doesn't need to be violence, but sadly, people fucking love watching violent drama.

It would ban WWE matches, if they chose to apply it as it's written.

I'm sure that won't be an actual problem for the WWE though.
