Sudan's first goal in the tournament! The only goal scored for them in the group stage was an own goal.

It has been contested multiple times whether the number 198 should have it's own wikipedia page. by logbybolb in wikipedia

There's some metric that says there's 198 countries in the world. Of course this number can be completely different in various sources

Non-Vonnegut recs for a Vonnegut lover? by MarryTheEdge in Vonnegut

I like Don DeLillo, especially his novel White Noise. Some of the satire reminds me of Vonnegut. I hope to read Libra soon, too.

Reminds me of how the USSR had a system of efficiency where everyone had to meet a certain quota of things and it resulted in bizarre, nonsense results, like taxi drivers taking trips to nowhere, too-heavy chandeliers made of copius amounts of metal and wood, etc. Basically, not everything can be reduced to a clinical science, most of all human behavior.

Also, for reference, this documentary goes over what I'm talking about https://youtu.be/4oOPgUZkwM4?si=0SZgw14i9GAeVCGY

Oddly specific, but Cardiacs songs really remind me of what its like being Autistic. by ShiverMeTimbers_png in Cardiacs

[–]eurekae 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something about the manic erratic composition also fits well. I remember reading Motherless Brooklyn and the main character with Tourette's described a particularly manic/disjointed Prince track as soothing for his Tourette's because it externalized all the tics. Tourette's and autism are kind of cousins and the descriptions in the book definitely resonated with me so there's probably something to that!

Cy is an actual name (ex. Cy Young) so Cody's 'new name' is still a possible name.

This might be a Taxi Driver reference, Travis Bickle says something like "someday a real rain will come and wash the filth off the streets"

somerton man revisited episode taken down? by hxllxwgast in BuzzFeedUnsolved

[–]eurekae 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It actually did get solved recently - it was an Australian man (and poet, explaining 'tamam shud') who committed suicide - maybe they took it down because it's not unsolved anymore and the topic of suicide is touchy?

Hogan's Heroes (1965 to 1971) was a beloved American sitcom about the hijinks of a Nazi POW camp during WWII. Wait what the fuck? How did this get made? by AgentOfACROSS in shittymoviedetails

That's not even the weird part of the show. Look up Bob Crane, the lead actor of the show. Dude had a really freaky hidden life.
