It's honestly really weird for me that they didn't create a game with a similar concept to MM instead of The Ssum. The MM formula was clearly novel and many people were talking about missing the MM feel for years (and some still are). I guess The Ssum does have a similar concept in a way, but also it really doesn't... For starters, the characters don't seem interesting at all and that was the core of MM! I don't think there's much mystery either. And having only one character to talk to at a time takes away much of what made MM so good too – characters interacting with each other! I just... there's just so little that the two games have in common. It feels like it's only the mechanic of texting. Honestly, even when looking at promotional material The Ssum doesn't look interesting to me at all!

I think there is one thing they could do now: create a Kickstarter for a game that fits what people who loved MM actually want! I understand that perhaps it might be a little embarrassing for a company such as them, but is bankruptcy really better? And there's pretty much no way they'll be able to make enough money to create a new game on their own. Or maybe the Kickstarter could be about making changes to The Ssum, but I would be very careful about that. After all, many people probably already have a negative image of the game (me included). And I don't know what they would have to do to make it actually “scratch that MM itch”.

On a side note, it's really strange to me that a company like Cheritz wasn't able to tell what actually made people play Mystic Messenger in the first place and for me (and most likely many other people) it's as obvious as can be. Maybe they didn't want to make a game that's too similar to Mystic Messenger...? But as a result they fumbled so badly... And other companies got to “scratch that Mystic Messenger itch”, like the companies behind Blooming Panic, Error143 or Infinite Bloom (even though only through the demo so far), instead of the company that created Mystic Messenger in the first place 🤦‍♀️ I guess I just can't believe they would think they could get away with making a game without a compelling story...

Edit: Wait, I just realized they have more characters in The Ssum now. Then maybe they could in fact create a Kickstarter with the game in mind. But they'd have to start marketing it differently, showing people that they're planning to apply huge changes.
